Applying for the dual enrollment scholarship at Kirtland Community College How will this scholarship help you with your long-term educational or career plans? This scholarship will help me get a head start in college. It will also help me to reach my career goals in the medical field.
Growing up, I have always loved to help people in need, so when I entered high school I put all of my focus towards medical classes. My experience with medical classes were amazing. I performed so well that I was able to pass the Clinical Medical
Athletics has helped shape who I am as a student and as a person. To be selected for the Carl Montavon Memorial Scholarship would be a great honor that I would feel privileged to receive. Carl Montavon was a huge supporter of athletics among high school students, and I am as well for multiple reasons. Not only have the sports that I have participated in helped me physically and socially, but educationally as well. Participating in multiple sports helped motivate me to keep up my GPA for future college recruiting, and fueled my competitive drive into striving and succeeding to become valedictorian of my high school’s graduating class. Athletics taught me responsibility and respect. Not only do I value others opinions, but I make sure
To have a deep down experience on my career goal, I had taken an opportunity to intern at the city of Aurora Public Defender Office during the fall of 2015 where I learned and got more inspired to follow this field. During my internship, I learned that being a lawyer is more than what we see on the TV and it can be very emotional sometimes with cases, but seeing all these cases has inspired me, even more, to go into this field. By receiving this scholarship, I will be more motivated to attend college and pursue my dream of becoming an immigration lawyer. With my family economy situation, my parents can’t afford to pay for my post-secondary education so receiving this scholarship will extremely help

Going to college has been a dream of mine growing up. I am the first ever in my family to go to college but figuring out how to pay for it has been a challenge. I desire to achieve my academic and career goals and this scholarship can help me succeed in my journey.
Everything changed for me my last year of high school. Like most seniors I was busy applying to colleges, studying for tests, volunteering in the community and trying to figure out what I aspired to be when I grew up. I thought I wanted to be an Interior Designer and I traveled with my parents all over the country touring colleges that offered the major. I achieved good grades in school and I was accepted at several of the schools I applied to. Once I decided on a university I began my search for scholarships to help fund my education. By chance I ran across an audio scholarship contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). The essay topic was about the importance of Veterans to our past and future. Because I was a military dependent this topic was near and dear to me. I worked really hard on my submission and to my surprise and my parent’s delight; I was selected as the winner for my state. The opportunities I experienced as a result of representing
The thrill of moving out for college, the new profound independence that one encounters once they indulge themselves in the undergraduate experience is something I’m yet to experience. ASU recommends every Freshman to live on campus at least their first year of college and to join various clubs and organizations in order to fully enhance the undergraduate experience. Unfortunately, I couldn’t partake in that tradition, due to financial problems, I haven’t yet had the privilege of living on campus. Throughout my undergraduate career thus far, not living on campus has been a huge burden that often prevents me from being able to attend beneficial events that will help me in my future. If I’m selected into the McCord Scholars Program, it will greatly
I want like to take the time to introduce myself as the recipient of the Whiting-Turner Presidential Scholarship and to thank you for making this possible to receive this generous award. I am in my last semesters to finish my degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. Spring 2016
Along with being a Jayhawk Journalist, I have Bipolar Disorder. Managing school, work, and mental health has been quite the challenge throughout my college career. My college experience has been incredible with all of the people I have met and concepts explored while at KU. However, the cost has taken a toll. With this scholarship, I would hope I could work less and focus more on my studies, take some time to get more active on campus, or find an internship related to my career interests. I currently take out loans and my parents takes out loans as well to finance my education. I also have an on-campus job to help out as well.
In the future, I plan to become a licensed clinical social worker for military children after mentoring a student at Bell Elementary. The student I currently mentor has parents that are both in the air force, and were deployed simultaneously, so she was struggling in school. I was able to help her through my own experiences as a military child, which drove my desire to help military children in my future career. An undergraduate education in psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln would help me obtain the skills I need to move on to a master's degree and to develop the skills I need to properly help other people in my future career. Currently, I am also involved in a variety of other organizations where I regularly volunteer with and
