In South Florida, an indeed.com search for available jobs for a Physician Assistant in an ED or Urgent Care setting provides approximately 12 results (Indeed, 2016) whereas in SEMPA.org there are 8 results in South Florida but they are not specific to Emergency Medicine (SEMPA, 2016). In terms of experience, most emergency medicine job postings require previous experience. However, some urgent care center positions may take newly graduates. For example, the recently opened wing of the SSU (short stay unit) in the ED of Memorial Regional Hospital hired two Miami Dade College PA recent graduates to supervise the wing and will gradually train them to work in the ED. This entry level position in the SSU pays about $60,000 a year, but a trained PA working in the ED makes up to $120,000 a year. Clearly, starting in the SSU is a great opportunity for an entry level position as a PA as they will eventually advance on to working in the main
You will document the diagnosis and ongoing treatment plan of the patient; as the emergency room doctor that you assist, provides you with orders, tests, and procedures for the patient. Often the emergency room nurse will assist in administrating these procedures as well as provide IV therapy, cleaning and bandaging wounds, administering medications or injections and contacting other staff members when necessary for other procedures.
When I take a step back and look at the endless opportunities I will have as a Physician Assistant (PA) it truly amazes me. There are so many areas of clinical practice to choose from and at this point in my education as a PA student I am still unsure of where I will end up. However, the area of practice that I am currently most drawn to is emergency medicine (EM). What draws me to EM is that it is face-paced and team-oriented. In addition, not only do you get to see a variety of patients, but you also see a variety of diseases and injuries. This being the specialty that is of most interest to me, it is important that I understand what exactly being an EM PA encompasses.
In the health care field, there are many opportunities one can explore. A few examples of healthcare career options vary from respiratory therapists, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technicians, medical assistants, to the more common hospitalists, physicians, and registered nurses. Of course each position requires certain education requirements and various qualifications to be accepted into the desired healthcare position. However, today we are going to go in depth in the medical assistant position.
Go online and see if there are any blogs written by medical assistants. Take a look at your immediate circle of family members, friends and associates. If you don't have someone close to you who's a medical assistant, find out if they know someone who is. Sit down and talk to a medical assistant who can tell you more about the field and answer any questions you might have. 2.

EMS services have been around for quite some time, but during the 1960’s it had more of an interest. “The evolution of the emergency medical services system in the United States accelerated rapidly between 1960 and 1973 as a result of a number of medical, historical, and social forces.” (Manish N. Shah, 414). The field that I am interested in is Health and with in the field of Health I want to investigate and focus on an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). The reason for this is because this is a field I am actively interested in and want to make a career out of in my future. EMT, paramedic and firefighters are part of a 911 dispatch call that will be there with in minutes and have the ability to save and better the patients life on the scene
Emergency medical technicians are licensed and/or certified health-care providers that are out-of-hospital. They immediately respond to the scene of an emergency, assess the safety hazards of the scene, and transport patients to institutions. (Beck, 2013) An emergency medical technician-paramedic takes on the additional tasks of giving medication and using various complex equipment. The competence and hasty reactions of EMTs can save the lives of patients and get them to the emergency room physician. Although education differs state to state, every emergency medical technician-paramedic must receive a high school diploma or GED and become certified for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). (“Emts and paramedics,” 2014) They must also

I am a clear headed, calm in stressful situation, work well in an interdisciplinary team, hardworking. honorable, dedicated, and believe strongly in evidence based medicine. Most of you who are reading this, are here because you live, breathe, and bleed Emergency Medicine. EM offers the perfect mix of patients, procedures, and adrenaline. Unfortunately, not all parties involved do it for the love of Emergency Medicine. While EM may be one of the youngest specialties, its short history is rife with conflict pitting hospitals against Emergency Medicine practitioners in the form of Contract Management Groups (CMGs) 1. For an excellent history lesson as told by James Keaney, MD MPH FAAEM, the first president of AAEM, we highly suggest that every medical student and resident interested in EM read The Rape of Emergency Medicine 2.
