An open campus lunch program is when, during the lunch period, students are permitted to leave campus and get lunch from local businesses or even home. At Urbana High School we currently have four lunch shifts, during which students pack or buy lunches. I believe Frederick County Public Schools should start an open campus lunch program for seniors because the school lunches are not healthy enough or appealing and do not have enough lunch options. The benefits that could come from this program go beyond the happiness of the seniors, they will reach the classrooms, staff members, and community.
Throughout the summer I worked at a nursing home as a Dietary Aide. The duties within this job includes preparing food, serving food, serving drinks, and passing out snacks at the end of the shift. Although I am in the kitchen the majority of the shift, I also spend a great deal of time interacting with the various residents. Being that I work in the resident’s home, it is important that I incorporate creativity everyday to ensure that they are enjoying their stay as much as possible. It is somewhat difficult for dietary aides to be very creative.
The second resident was Ms. Sister; she was in room no. 226A. I had an opportunity to provide a lunch for Ms. Sister; she was very nice and friendly. She ate 45 % of her meal, but she enjoyed eating fruit, ice cream, and milk. Sometimes, she stopped eating; I assisted her getting her cold water or grabbing utensils on the table. I noticed that she always said “thank you” to me, and tried to talk something. I noticed that she was a smile and her face looked happy. I felt happy too. After finishing lunch, I brought her back to her room, and Dat used a full sling mechanical lift to move Ms. Sister back on her bed and changed completed continence brief. Ms. Sister watched her TV and took a nap later. Then, I checked the call right that it was right next to Ms. Sister before I left her room. My second day of clinical practical learned many things from residents, such as noticed personal food preference, gave the person time to eat, reminded residents to chew and swallow carefully, made a bed ( a closed
Why do colleges make their meal plans for students very costly? Are they too expensive? Are meal plans or college food healthy? Throughout the 21st century college has become more essential to attend and get a job after graduating. As compared to back then when with just a high school degree an individual could live off a decent job. However, as college became more important, the price of college also increased including, the cost of dorms, tuition, fees, books, and most importantly meal plans. Within all of the college expenses, the price of meal plans has also increased. Food is one of the most important necessity a human being needs to survive. Furthermore, the price is not the only factor, the health and regulations of a student’s meal plan also comes into play. Colleges provide a huge variety of food, most of it being fast food. The main research question
In the hospital environment there are several resources for the nurse to partner with to address nursing sensitive indicators and ethical issues that may arise. In this scenario, to help resolve the issue with meal trays a partnership with dietary could be made to come with an appropriate solution for the correct delivery at meal time. The nurse could have brought this information forward and apologized to the patient and his daughter rather than trying to keep it quiet. The nursing supervisor
As the nursing supervisor in this scenario involving Mr. J, I would utilize several resources to address and resolve the ethical issue. When I was first informed of the kosher meal mix-up, I would have informed the patient’s daughter of the
In recent years, there has been research involving the causes and consequences of poor nutrition among the elderly. Researchers continually work to distinguish risk factors of inadequate nutrition; the factors of most concern are “poor appetite, functional limitations, limited income, and social isolation” (Lirette, Podovennikoff, Wismer, Tondu, Klatt, 2007). Individuals at highest risk are those who live at home with a lack of family support (Krondl, Coleman, Lau, 2008). The diets of many elderly people are often low in calories and lacking important nutrients. All of these factors can affect the health and quality of life in the older adult. Nutrition plays a significant role in the health of
Several resources exist in the hospital in order to address the nursing sensitive indicators. In this scenario as a nurse I could partner with dietician in order to address the tray issue and deliver the correct tray to the correct patient. To resolve any misunderstandings I would apologize to the daughter of the patient for the incident. I would speak to the nurse who commented inapprotely to the
Meals on Wheels, an organization that feeds elderly who can’t feed themselves, is planned to get some of its funding cut off with the president’s new financial plan. Meals on Wheels has been feeding the unfortunate since the 1950’s (Carroll A10), leaving this organization to rely on public funding is not a solution to government spending. This organization improves the diets and lives of many elderly by giving them food for their specific needs, and giving them someone who comes and visits. President Trump can not pretend that the elderly are not people too, considering he himself is seventy. Defunding such companies and institutions will lead to a path of ignorance and uncaring mindsets, and there is something to be done about it.
SC received phone from Pa’s dtr starting that she spoke with provider agency Accucare regarding changing Pa’s schedule from a split shift to one shift starting at 5:00 AM and ending at 9:00 AM. SC informed DCW that she is not authorized to make any change to Pa’s care plan or schedule. DCW was furious demanding to know why she is not authorize to make changes to Pa’s care plan since Pa’s she’s Director of Care. SC explained to DCW that she is not Pa’s director of care because Pa’s is directs own care and moreover she cannot be the direct care worker and the Director of Care because both role conflict with each other. Throughout our entire lives, we have been convinced to eat “healthy” so that we can live a longer and happier life with low risks of diseases and cancers. However, what does it really mean to eat “healthy” since there are many health claims that are confusing us about what we should or shouldn’t eat. With the cloud of confusion revolving a “healthy” diet, Michael Pollan, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, writes “Unhappy Meals” detailing what it means to eat healthy. Although eating healthy is essential, there are factors that play a role into a person’s diet. For instance, in what ways does income affect an adult’s decision to eating “healthy?” Many people assume that a person’s ability to eat healthy is based on their
It is important to make sure the service user has finished because some people are slower eaters and others are maybe taking a breather and it is important to monitor the individual because they may not be consuming enough. Always ask if the individual has finished eating before taking the plate away because it could leave the resident hungry or thirsty this could upset or distress them.
Approximately 52% of the 1993 population in the area was 60 years of age or over. This was considered the restaurant’s main target market. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the number of people taking up permanent residence in the valley increased dramatically for various reasons. The climate was attractive for growing population of seniors. Land prices, housing, taxes, and utilities were affordable. With the average cost of an acre of industrial land in the Penticton area at $45000 in 1991, businesses were attracted to the area. Between 1984 and
