Meals on wheels was the other nonprofit organization that I analyzed in my leadership style and theories overview. I choose meals on wheels because I discovered that there target audience is the elderly population in the United States. The biggest difference with this nonprofit compared to the other nonprofits I have discussed is that they operate with volunteers that do a variety of different jobs from preparing the meals, delivering them, serving them, to helping in the office and even visiting to make sure they senior is safe (Meals, 2015). He really enjoyed just having someone around even for just a few minutes because he lived alone and was basically alone all the time because his family lived out of state and he was unable to drive. John actually was pretty self-sufficient when I visited he stood up answered the door and invited me in. This year, March winds blew Linda McDonald our way to fill the Director of Aging Services empty seat. Like Mary Poppins, she drifted in with a suitcase full of knowledge. She unpacked and delighted us with her experience in graphic design, photography, marketing, and publishing. She developed and coordinated programs, managed public relations, and worked with disabled individuals and their families. Much enjoyment was derived in research and helping others find answers. The new director’s position suited her, for she thrives working with older adults. Letting seniors know they are a vital part of our community, and they haven’t been forgotten was a passion for Linda.

Meals-on-Wheels program helped satisfied the community’s changing needs by preparing meals geared towards special individuals. For example, some clients were vegetarians or needed kosher meals and our kitchen was able to supply them with their needs. They were also given a food item menu, which enabled clients to choose from many dinner entrée options.
Meals on Wheels is an excellent solution to hunger for elderly people. They currently feed around 500 people a week. The volunteers and employees work tirelessly with people from their community and other organizations to ensure that the elders they are helping get all the things they need which include food, company, and that there house is in order. They go out of their way to go above and beyond. For instance, Meals on Wheels is not open on holidays, but the employees go to other organizations that are open, help pack food, and then they go drive it to the people who have do not have family’s house.
