People define meanings of something in many different ways and for many different reasons. Depending on how someone is brought up or what environment they were raised in can change their whole prospective on what the meanings of something really means. No one specifically points out what a meaning for every single little different thing in the world. I think that it is up to the person that is sensible about the subject is the one that is truly responsible for coming up with what the meaning of something is. Many divergent things effect the ways you perceive meaning. You could be persuaded by the media, your beliefs, and what the people around you think about it as well. Other peoples opinions have a huge effect on every single thing you do. Most people are too worried about being judged for doing something, or are very uneasy about doing the …show more content…
Many people may interpret the Bible and the stories within it in a great deal of different ways. Some people may be absorbed in a story and completely make sense of it. This could possibly be in a completely different way then you did. When this takes place some people may be on edge about being judged for their own thoughts and opinions. This may cause your way of thinking on the meanings for each and every story to sway in a different directions to a certain extent. A horde of things may also stand for a number of different things to you but not to others. If you grew up around something that had a representation and then you see it later in life that representation most likely has multiple meanings to you. An example of that for me would be that my high school mascot were the blue devils. Most of my family is Duke University fans so therefore the blue devil meant my high school and Duke University as well. Others that did not have a high school mascot being the blue devils most likely would probably not have a duel signification to the blue

In William C Platchers essay he states that the bible is true, and if the bible is true than the meaning behind the teaching and stories are true as well. To fully understand the bible and how to apply it to our lives we need to understand its message. Not only the message one the base layer, to understand the message sometimes you need to dig a little deeper. This is something that all Christians are taught, it is one of the fundamentals of our religion. Once we understand the message behind what we read, then we have to trust it. If we trust God our Lord and savior. Then we are able to put that same amount of trust into the bible. He then discusses how different people have come to interpret this truth. William Placher elaborates on two
Often, works of literature reveal a story, and that story is often only taken into consideration from an individual point of view. The value of the interpretation that that story reveals is seldom told. Stories can be seen interpreted through multiple viewpoints. What one person may accept as right, may not always been seen through the perspective of somebody else. We base our judgments on our own perception of the world, but not everybody has a fundamentally similar view of the world as we do.

This explains why things have different meanings according to the situations. Finally, as meaning emerges trough interactions, it is also maintained trough them. As we acquire ways to feel, behave and think through our interactions culture is socially constructed. This explains why for symbolic interactionists, there is no Society, no greater body that controls and determines social norms, we are the ones who trough our interactions, create them. Since our responses to symbols, signs, events and situation are public, we are free to redefine to a certain extent meanings and as new things and objects emerge, we come up with new meanings. It is when we do not use a meaning associated with a symbol, for abstract ideas such as beliefs of values, that they disappear or are modified. This is how symbolic interactionists explain the change in ‘’societies’’ mentalities over time. All of these choices and these interactions implicate a Self, a reflexive process that enables us to formulate, monitor, control and react to our own behaviour, which formation we’ll explain through Meade, Cooley and Goffman.
because it means something different to each and every individual. For example the more common
When studying any piece of literature there are many different methods and techniques that can be used. The Bible, in specific, is often referred to as a source of moral code, hope, and answers to social, ethical, and political questions. However, this incredibly influential book can also be read as if it were any other novel. The events, settings, and characters can all be evaluated for what they are, forgetting the notion that they are from a religious text. This approach is called narrative criticism. When regarding to the Bible in this way, we do not need to know any historical information or focus on seeking a deeper theological meaning. Instead, the stories are evaluated in terms of how
The bible describes my faith and it is a holy book that is treated with respect however analyzing and reading the terrible texts also made me realize that there is some texts in the bible that are horrible and have a lot of violence. In church the priests do not talk about this acts rather they want to show the positive side of their faith and religion. However I feel that the bible was written in an earlier time frame and many of the ideas through many time periods have changed. Many people now think differently about certain situations and many perspectives and opinions have
My own understanding of the bible comesfrom experiences that I have had in my life such as attending church services and bible studies growing up as well as religiousfunction which serve the purpose of increasing my understanding of the bible ad h which contributed too much of my current knowledge and understanding of the bible. I ampersonally very focused and locked into the "/ienefits of the scripture of the bible and the insight itprovides us to the past present and future of our history here on earth.
Every time we see something, we associate it with a meaning and our subjective understanding of it. The way we perceive things, is associated and biased by our personal experiences. It is affected by cultural elements, ideas, and such. When we receive a message, our minds automatically work in order to decode it and absorb the meaning behind it, both the denotation and connotation.
Humans are curious creatures who observe the world to find meaning in life, but the world is not clear cut, meaning there are no definite answers. Furthermore, since a single truth does not exist in the world, the way people view something may be different from another’s view. People try to find purpose in their life, but this can change over time as with many things. One example is how writing styles change from era to era: Post-modernist writing takes place after World II when the writing style changes from Romance, with nature and love encompassing all, to Post-Modernism, when everything is terrible and filled with corruption. People can interpret things in various ways which can be a result of their environment, focal point, and purpose
If ten bystanders were to witness the same crime, how many different interpretations of the scene would there be? All the opinions and viewpoints that arise from one scenario are very dependant on different variables. The same can be applied when analyzing the book of Genesis. One controversial topic is whether to take it literally or figuratively. Some of the different arguments supporting and opposing either side include; the original beliefs of the interpreter, the historical time frame, the different genres of writing in the book, and more. There are many perceptions of the book of Genesis being literal or figurative.
