The Congressional Medal of Honour
The Medal of Honour is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States government. It is given to a member of the United States armed forces who distinguishes himself "conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States".
Because of the nature of its criteria, the medal is often awarded posthumously. Members of all branches of the U.S. military are eligible to receive the medal, and each service has a unique design with the exception of the Marine Corps and Coast Guard, which both use the Navy 's medal. The Coast Guard Medal of Honour, which was distinguished from the Navy medal in 1963, has never been awarded, partly because the U.S. Coast Guard is subsumed into the U.S. Navy in time of declared war. No design yet exists for it. Only one member of the Coast Guard has received a Medal of Honour, Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro, who was awarded the Navy version for action during the Battle of Guadalcanal. In the rare cases, 19 so far, where a service member has been awarded more than one Medal of Honour, current regulations specify that an appropriate award device be cantered on the Medal of Honour ribbon and neck medal.
To indicate multiple presentations of the Medal of Honour, the U.S. Army and Air Force bestow oak leaf clusters, while the Navy Medal of Honour is worn with gold award stars. A ribbon which is the same shade of light blue as the neckband, and includes five white stars, pointed upwards, in the shape of an "M" is worn for situations other than full dress uniform. When the ribbon is worn, it is placed alone above the centre of the other ribbons. For wear with civilian clothing, a rosette is issued instead of a miniature lapel pin (which usually shows the ribbon bar). The rosette is the same shade of blue as the neck ribbon and includes white stars. The ribbon and rosette are presented at the same time as the medal.
On October 23, 2003 a Medal of Honour flag was to be presented to recipients of the decoration. The flag was
We honor our veterans because every day they put their lives on the line to protect our country; to preserve the freedom of this great land. Without question, without hesitation, these brave people come forth every day to help defend the 350 million people
Marines must wear their rank on the collar of the mccuu uniform at all times, on the collar vertical, with the pointed tip up. Center them horizontally (as if a vertical line bisected the collar). The bottom edge of the insignia (no matter what rank) will be 1/2 inch from the side of the collar on both sides. Rank insignia should always have a good appearance free of rust, chips, scratches, or tarnishing. A Marine qualified or designated as a naval aviator, naval flight officer, Marine aerial navigator, naval aviation observer, naval or combat aircrew member, parachutist, explosive ordnance disposal technician, or diver, will wear such badge on the MCCUU uniform centered over the pocket on a horizontal (parallel to the ground) line even with the highest point of the service tape. Either subdued or shiny breast insignia may be worn in the field at the commander 's discretion. ANY other emblems or insignia are not authorized for wear with the MCCUU uniform at any time.
Honor is the pride and respect of veterans who served their country and kept it safe. How one person thanks the veterans is different from another. However, honor and morals sometimes get confused during the time of war. The Navy sometimes names their ships after war heroes for their actions and bravery. However, shouldn’t the military do that for all veterans alive or dead? Some veterans don’t even get the honor and respect they earned for serving their country.
In 1962 during the American Civil War, the Nation’s highest decoration in combat was established. The Medal of Honor is presented to those who go above and beyond the Call of Duty. These Soldiers did not just display Valor, but also what we now call Army Values. They were Loyal to their country, set on their Duty obligation and Selflessly put our country ahead of themselves. They kept moving forward against the enemy, never retreating, only showing the importance of Integrity for their country, with Courage and Honor. Every part of the Medal of Honor symbolizes everything the Soldier did to receive that decoration.

When presented with an award or medal you are expected to give a little speech. Nothing extraordinary just a few words to thank people. General Douglas MacArthur went above and beyond when he was presented the Sylvanus Thayer Award. He gave this speech at West Point, which the was superintendent of, on May 12, 1962. The speech was entitled Duty, Honor, Country. The begins his speech with addressing his award and then the begins talking about the individual soldier. He states the qualities a soldier must have in order to complete his/her objective. Bravery and honor were stressed in this speech. The use of ethos, pathos, and logos really make this speech over the top along with the use of cesuras.

Maha considers this item as one of her greatest achievements since it was the first medal she received here in Canada. It must make a person extremely proud to receive an award in their first year in a brand new country. Maha carried on to tell her class that she received the Greatest Strides Award in elementary school after her recent arrival in Canada. When she moved from Saudi Arabia, it was her first time attending a school here and everything was absolutely different in the education system to her, how everything ran and how students were taught. The school she attended back in Saudi Arabia had so many differences with the schools as she said it took time to adjust and fit in. Maha soon went deeper into the subject by explaining that the school she went to, Ashgrove Public School gave out year-end awards which were the Citizenship Award, the Greatest Strides Award, and the Kindness and Caring Award. Three students from every class would receive an award. Maha finished by mentioning that this item was one she has always been and proud and will continue to appreciate this medal.
