The nurse must verify the physician’s medication order, including the dose and time, and then the pharmacy is responsible for their own checks and balances via the BCMA system in order to complete the dispensing phase of the medication (Gooder, 2011). The nurse enters the BCMA system with a login and password and is able then to see a list of the virtual due list for a specific patient. The computer on wheels is then taken to that patient’s room and the five rights of medication administration begin. As nurses, we are taught to use the five rights of drug administration are (1) right patient (2) right medication (3) right dose (4) right route and (5) right time. By scanning the barcode on the patient’s hospital identification band, the nurse then asks for the patient to verbally state their name and date of birth, which can be verified by the nurse on the virtual due list and then choses the medication that are due for administration at that time. The medication is dispensed and the nurse is able to scan the barcode on the medication, the scanning triggers the automatic documentation of the medication given (Kelly, 2012).

Canada and the United States healthcare systems once nearly identical until the late 20th century after Canada adopted Medicare. At the same time, the United States executed its Medicare program for elderly people. Everyone knows that healthcare costs in the United States are on the rise. Either universal healthcare system would bring costs down and increase access to care or it would be to expensive and would reduce the quality of care. In this essay I am comparing the similarities and differences between the two that people think is happening.
The essence of our project is to create an affordable and secure pill dispenser, in order to improve proper medication adherence. Statistics on medication adherence prove it is an extremely prevalent issue, yet is not addressed nearly enough. This is a very solvable problem - most people practice poor habits when taking medications simply because they are unorganized. While researching potential topics, we realized even the cheapest dispensers to regulate intake of medications costed well over $100, which is rather expensive for most people. This is why we decided to take it upon ourselves to build an affordable dispenser. We will most likely gravitate sales towards the elderly, and those with Alzheimers and dementia.

Very informative post. Tricare is a type of managed care plan, which works well for the most part. The only drawback I have experienced using Tricare was when I needed to get my wisdom teeth pulled. My wisdom teeth had all fully erupted several years prior and had not given me any trouble until I broke one. Not wasting any time I called to set up an appointment for the next Monday but before I could get them pulled, I had to have a separate consult. By the time I could finally get my teeth pulled I had waited nearly two weeks and had been to the dentist three times; all because of the strict policy.
