Certifications truly demonstrate that a professional medical coder has working knowledge. The AAPC offers training and a vast wealth of resources and information. They also have a network of about 165,000 members and the point you in the right direction towards gainful employment.

 This paper will aim to apply my insights on motivational theory of individuals and teams by developing two initiatives to be put into action at the New Mexico Veteran Administration Medical Center (VA).  It will discuss how I will implement these initiatives and what changes in an employee mindset may be required to overcome any resistance.  It will discuss the positive outcomes I expect, and how I can avoid or minimize negative factors which may cause stress.

Clinical, administrative, and laboratory areas are where medical assistants are expected to be proficient in. Being a medical assistant involves being able to perform both clinical and administrative tasks. Medical assistants should be able to successfully take and record patient information, measure vital signs, help physician with exams, give injections, schedule appointments, and prepare blood for lab testing. I am currently a Medical Laboratory Technician. I have been a technician for almost 3years.I want to grown in my field and the best way to obtain higher position in my firm is by getting education. Therefore i decided to get a degree in Health Care Organisation.

Bloodletting is a practice that is believed to have originated in Egypt around 1000 BCE, over 3000 years ago. It involved opening the veins of patients with a blade or leeches to help treat their malady. It was believed to assist the human body in fighting off whatever was ailing it, stemming from the belief that bodily fluids, or humors, had to stay in balance to maintain health. After spreading to Greece, this technique was validated by several leading physicians, including Hippocrates. The “Father of Modern Medicine” likened the practice of bloodletting to menstruation, believing that a woman’s period helped to rid her body of “bad humors”. Following the trend’s spread to the Roman Empire, the physician Galen became the leading researcher on the practice of bloodletting. He created a guide of how to bloodlet, enabling the common citizens to recreate the procedures on themselves and others, rather than going to find a more qualified person.

After discovering my passion for science and math, I pursue a career in Clinical Laboratory Science with enthusiasm. My desire to study this subject originates from the exciting and rapidly-moving subject area that is highly relevant to major issues facing society today. Clinical Laboratory Scientists play a crucial role in the healthcare field; in detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease in patients. My goal is to be involved in the latest advances in medical research and to constantly be expanding my knowledge about my field. On top of this goal, Clinical Laboratory Science remains a challenging, rewarding and inspiring topic that will motivate and shape my career for my entire life.

The medical field is full of many different career paths. Some choose pediatrics, some choose geriatrics, some choose oncology, and some choose psychology. However, only a few choose radiology as a career choice. Radiologists are medical specialists who use radioactive instruments and x-rays to diagnose and make treatment decisions regarding health problems.

Overcrowding and increased length of stay (LOS) in emergency departments (ED) has contributed to a rise in patient mortality, medical errors, and deficient patient outcomes (Li et al., 2015). The mean LOS for ED patients in the United States is currently 232 minutes (Rathlev et al., 2012). A crucial contributing factor to LOS in the ED is the required turnaround time (TAT) for conventional laboratory results. However, the utilization of Point of Care Testing (POCT) in the ED is one option to reduce overall LOS. The proposed question is: Is there a significant decrease in ED patient length of stay LOS for those whose blood was analyzed using Point-of-Care testing (POCT) versus those whose blood was analyzed using laboratory testing? In PICO format: PICO Question Population: Emergency Department patients requiring blood analysis and diagnostic testing. Intervention: Bedside POCT of blood specimens. Comparison: Laboratory analysis of blood specimens. Outcome: Identify occurrence of a decrease in patient LOS in the ED. In this paper, the effect of POCT versus conventional laboratory testing on ED LOS is investigated.

I intend to study Medical Laboratory Science at South Dakota State University. My goal is to acquire my bachelor’s degree by completing four years in that program to earn a degree that would allow me to find a high paying career. An additional perk to my career path would be the fact that Medical Laboratory Science positions are highly in demand in South Dakota. I do plan to live and work in South Dakota after I graduate. I wish to gain a lot of experience out of this education, and gain the ability to help save lives by diagnosing and researching in a medical setting.
