It seems as if medical neglect happens too often in pediatrics. Medical neglect is when a parent fails to adequately care for their child, when those cares are pertinent to treating an illness or physical injury. In the two years that I have worked in pediatrics, I have seen many of these cases. The majority of the time, it occurs with our chronic patients who are medically heavy, time consuming, hospitalized a lot, and the parents do not adequately take care of them. In this paper, I am going to discuss a case of medical neglect that I have encountered in a child who had received a heart transplant.
Heart Transplant This story breaks my heart because this child is near and dear to my heart. I have taken care of this child since the day that he was born. This child was born with a congenital heart defect that left him needing a new heart. He received his heart transplant about a year ago and since then, he has been re-hospitalized several times due to his blood work being off when coming into the clinic for check-ups and not gaining weight.

One of the common medications that is given, is called Tacrolimus. While taking this medication, blood levels have to be tested every couple of weeks to see if the dose needs to be adjusted based off of what the level is. He has come in five times now with undetectable Tacrolimus levels; meaning that the medication has either been incorrectly given or not given at all.
This patient also had a gastrostomy tube placed due to being unable to tolerated feeding by mouth. He receives formula feedings through this tube for nutrition. Along with this patient coming in due to undetectable Tacrolimus levels, he has also come in for Failure to Thrive. With this, it means that he was either incorrectly being fed or not being fed at
During the period before seventeen fifty, salutary neglect influenced the development of American society. Salutary neglect refers to the unofficial and long term British policy of avoiding strict enforcement of parliamentary laws meant to keep the American colonies obedient to England during the seventeenth and eighteenth century. While this was happening, American society changed and developed in many different ways. This was due to things like, being able to trade freely, having a localized government to solve disputes, and the opportunity to have religious freedom.
The American Revolution was inevitable and America could have not gradually and peacefully developed independence within the British Commonwealth without the violent revolt. The colonist were getting fed up with the way that they were being governed and they felt as if they did not have rights. They wanted everything to go back the way it was before because they did not want to break away from the British but they wanted the salutary neglect to continue. Salutary neglect consist of the the government having rules and not enforcing them which would eventually cause an uproar from the Colonists. The peace with salutary neglect eventually was disturbed when the British decided the Colonists needed to pay taxes due to large national war debt that was upon them but the Colonists did not agree with that decision.
Healthcare maintenance. The patient has not had a physical in years. We will set her up to come back for this at next appointment. She is not had cholesterol done for quite some time. Frederick Turner said, that "frontier has gone, and with its going has closed the first period of American history." Continental America had been settled by the turn of the century. Some say it is time for America to have a new frontier and that it might be found overseas. During the turn of the century, the United States become very involved in the affairs of the world. The United States would annex Hawaii and control the Philippines after the Spanish-American War. They would also build a canal in Panama to connect the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. These actions caused many people overseas to call the United States imperialistic and to fear what it might do next? During the 1890's, Hawaii was in an economic depression
Neglect: medical condition deteriorating unexpectedly or not improving as expected, hypothermia or person cold or dressed inadequately, unexplained loss of weight, clothes or body dirty and smelly, delays in seeking medical attention
In most cases, child neglect can be very difficult to indicate especially if the child never discusses his or her living situation due to the fact that he or she is too young to express feelings unless he or she is being closely observed. According to Crosson-Tower (2010), “… neglect is less dramatic than the

No one wants to believe that their loved one is being abused in a nursing home, but it is more common than you may think. Of course, there are different forms of abuse, but one common form of abuse is that of neglect. This is a problem found in many nursing homes and it can become serious that your loved one's health is in danger. The following are three signs that your loved one is being neglected.
The critical appraisal process is implemented to examine the reliability and validity of a research study by evaluating relevance in practice and how to improve the quality of medical care. The focus of this assignment is to critically appraise the article The lived experience of parents and guardians providing care for child transplant recipients by focusing on the study methods, design, sample, data collection, and findings to measure significance of execution in the clinical setting. According to Williams, Eilers, Heermann, & Smith (2012), with a statistical increase in children living “normally” post transplant, there lies a demand to understand the reality of patient’s and family’s experiences and potential stressors presented throughout this financially, physically, and emotionally taxing process.
1Jessica, I agree that severe neglect in a family setting is the stage where neurological and behavioral consequences become irreparable. The constant stress a child experiences under this type of care causes nerve connection failure. Family counseling is a great resource to help families who are in this type of situation.
Although severe neglect isn't highly prevalent in today's society, it is still an important issue to be discussed. Without knowledge of the outcomes, there will be no motivation to intervene on the child's behalf.
As most of us know childhood obesity is increasing at an alarming rate and it something that needs to be addressed. However, few have thought about severe childhood obesity as possibly being considered a problem with medical neglect. The specific case for medial neglect pertaining to childhood obesity raises numerous positions that I both agree with, as well as disagree with. It does however, arise a great question about who needs to be held accountable when families cannot or choose not to deal with their child’s severe obesity. This issue needs to be dealt with because the conditions and comorbid problems that result from severe childhood obesity reach far beyond the physical complications.
There is also emotional neglect of the child and its very irritating for them and it is very hurtful to the child’s feeling. Ward (2010) stated that “emotional neglect is any attitude, behavior, or failure to act that interferes with a child's mental health or social development”. As Gardner (2012) claimed that, by keeping the child feelings always under pressure, a parent is creating the fearing process by preventing the child need to interact with other and not showing the positive feelings to the child and blaming the child about every step done it is destroying the emotions and feelings of the child.
Children have seen many things done in their presence, some impacted them positively, for example, love and compassion. While some impacted them negatively, for example, a violent misconduct. Some children had experience neglect and abuse of all kind from grown-ups that they are related to, or even a friend of their family. Some have been abuse by individual that they have never seen in their life until the day the person mistreated them. However, most of the times children are hurt by adults and they do not tell anyone because of fear or shame. This can cause the child to shut down and have emotional, psychological as well as behavioral issues. Therefore, it is always good for the child if they tell someone trustworthy and they get professional help as well as the individual that committed the crime is being punished (Child Advocacy Center, 2017). This is where the Forensic Interviewer come in.
