Just as the institution is eager to continue embracing the ever-changing world of healthcare and medicine, I too embody this same distinguishing characteristic. Throughout my undergraduate experiences I have learned in order to be a steward and servant of the medical profession one must exercise teamwork, service, empathy, accountability, and optimism; all of which coincide with the tenets that are declared by the Meharry Medical College, School of Medicine culture. Attending this medical school would be one of the greatest rewards for my motivation and persistence. I am confident that the University of Connecticut School of Medicine is a respectable medical school that can prepare me for my future professional career in medicine by providing exceptional opportunities for my medical education. My interest in this instution lies on its commitment for innovative medical education aiming to prepare its students for their medical career. Therefore, the medical curriculum of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, M delta, caught my eye when I was exploring medical schools to apply since it was unique and I was certain that it was an interesting way to learn medicine.

University of California — San Francisco School of Medicine, located in San Francisco, was founded in 1864 as Toland Medical College, and in 1873, it joined the University of California. In order to apply for UCSF School of Medicine, a student needs to complete the required courses including one year of general chemistry with lab, minimum of a semester of organic chemistry, one year of physics with lab, and one year of general biology with lab or the study of vertebrate zoology. The student would be a better applicant if he or she attended a four-year university and obtained a baccalaureate degree. However, the minimum requirement is the completion of three years of college credit and it should be done by June of the year of entry. Also, Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) have to be taken by September of the year of entry.

Moreover, the mission of Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, of improving the health of the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico is a vision that I share. Growing up in this region has allowed me to see the value of having individuals from the community serve as physicians. During my four years at Brooklyn Technical High School, I was part of the Gateway to Medicine program. I was introduced to courses such as anatomy & physiology, organic chemistry, and biology. These extremely challenging classes piqued my interest to explore a future career in health care. The Gateway to Medicine program was multi-faceted, I went from dissecting cats to learning about spontaneous de-combustion. My guidance counselor also helped prepare me to choose a career in the medical profession.

The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences offers me a variety of opportunities and programs that I am unable to find anywhere else. First, the Early Selection Program allows me to have flexibility in my journey as a medical professional. Each student’s schedule in the program is tailored to a specific specialty and applicable track. In the program, I would get to explore not only the foundational medical courses, but also the courses that incorporate both clinical practice and community interaction early on. I would get to learn hands-on through the collaboration of my peers and work in an environment that looks at health through a cultural and evolving lens. From here, I will be able to get a solid impression of the care, communication, and approaches I want to implement as a future health care provider.

My passion for medicine is something deeper than a mere interest in learning the extraordinary functions of the human body. I am completely fascinated to learn gross anatomy, histology, pathology, and the complete medical school curriculum. As a kinesthetic and social learner, the “flipped classroom” approach will allow me to dissect the material on my own and then exchange ideas and questions with members of a small group. Together we can challenge our understanding of concepts and ensure a solid foundation to our medical careers. Additionally, the scholarly concentration provides an invaluable opportunity to customize my education towards my interest in working with underserved populations.
