The Medieval Church was its own form of organized life during Medieval Ages. During the Medieval Times the church dominated the lives of citizen’s, and was a great influence in society because of the limitations it was able to place on monarchy and its significant impact upon the economy and its citizens. During this time period Kings took counsel from high-ranking officials of the church making the church the most powerful force. In the Medieval ages citizens were deeply committed to their church because they believed they were spiritual human’s beings who are having a material experience and will return to spiritual existence after death. The Medieval Church provided a place of purgatory which allowed citizens to make amends to their wrongs doings, as well as expiation for its citizens, and provided them with charity and hospitality. Most importantly to its citizens the Medieval Church provided walls of glass depicted narratives from the bible, and became the bible written in light, this was a revelation as most were illiterate. The opening of the Holy Chapel in Paris France continued to inspire Medieval churches throughout Europe to go with a Gothic inspired architecture and created a competition to construct tallest most luminous building on earth. The Medieval Churches brought citizens closer to God through allowing an abundance of light to come in that made citizens feel as though God was among them.
