There has been a situation in your past where you had to make a tough decision, and it wasn’t easy. When you can’t make a decision, it helps to seek for an adult’s or a friend’s advice. A 16 year old boy named Mel is having to decide whether he wants to stay in his garage band with his friends or join the all-city band where he can flourish as a musician. If I were giving advice to Mel, I would tell him that he owes it to himself to develop his individual talents to the maximum. To begin with, even though Mel has been in this band with his friends since they were little kids, they should support him with whatever his decision is. Mel’s friends should put themselves in his shoes and understand how big this decision is before they get mad or
At the end of summer, Savvy makes a friend at 16U tryout and soon enough they talk each other into trying out for the 18U team. After the tryout, she tells her parents later that night and her mother is a little uncertain, but her father says “This is terrific” (Mackel 17)! Although Savvy is 6’2, she played in a 14 & under league last year, but now she is jumping 2 age brackets. This is another good reason supporting the fact that parents support their children no matter the situation because her father helped her feel better about her decision. Although Savvy is 6’2, she played in a 14 & under league last year, but now she is jumping 2 age brackets, and really excited about it. There is only one thing, none of her new teammates want to be friendly to
To start, if Mel left his band they would be missing a major part of that band. Lets say that Mel plays
Mel has a future to look forward to! He could: become a solo famous musician, be in a famous band, or even play the band for big stars in concerts. Being in the city Jazz band would be a great experience for mel, he would play and learn from some of the best musicians around. The music career could set a stable future for Mel, and his friends should be happy for him. Even if they have had a garage band since
Throughout the book, Jericho, Josh’s and November’s friend, is conflicted about his decision to leave band in order to join the football team. In the end, Jericho decides to return to band by telling his band teacher this, “I’m dusting off my trumpet. I need my music. When football season is over, I’m coming back to music class, if that’s okay with you.” I feel the same way about music. When I’m in band class, I’m able to express my deepest feelings in the music. These feelings shine bright in all styles. This includes styles such as jazz, Jericho’s specialty, or even military marches; music gives both Jericho and I a medium for expressing our feelings.
Louder Than a Bomb has helped allow students to express themselves and grow not only as individuals, but as artists all the while gaining the self confidence to share their experiences, thoughts and ideas with others, and the wisdom to listen to other people’s stories as well. Students also develop their teamwork abilities by participating in a group poem where each member of the group contributes in the construction of the poem, a mandatory exercise for the competition. Students who participate in Louder Than a Bomb find the diversity in it’s participants with differences ranging from age, GPA, ethnicity, and strengths; the one thing that they all share in common: their love and interest in
I have come a very long way; the four years since I started have only progressed with intensity and involvement with music. I know the next years of my life will only be more intense and more involved with music, and I hope that it can become a career one day. Music has allowed me to express myself during my happy moments, my teenage angst, my depression, my heartbreaks, and it has always gotten stronger, and it carries me with it. I cannot wait to see what music I’m creating in five, ten, or fifteen years. One day, I’ll look back to the songs I have finished in my younger days, and I will be reminded of my high school years, and what I was going through during those times, because, to me, music is
As I sat down in a room with my favorite drummer, Rhett Noland, I had pre existing thoughts I would learn new drum skills, hear about tour life, and get advice about performing. Instead, all those things were blown out the window. What I aquired from this classroom was more important to me than any rudiment or drum fill, or any advice someone else could have given me. What I learned in this classroom in a sense “woke me up” and gave me a realization about what I am here on Earth for. Rhett told me about how he used to be an alcoholic. How he used to not even be able to go to work without a drink. How destructive drinking was. How miserable he was. There was a paradigm shift in the room immediately after he told us that now, he had been sober for 23 months.

My decision to pursue a career as a professional musician is a result of experiences from childhood to present and inspirations along the way. As I gather more experiences and inspirations, it is almost certain that my decision will not
In a marching band, the idea is to utilize copious amounts of micro-organisms and turn them into a singular macro-organism. However, our voices do not become lost in the cacophony of noise, simply strengthened and enforced by the foundation that each section provides to make the larger creation- a show. My understanding of myself became clearer as I learned to give myself to a larger cause without losing myself among the chaos.
As a result, the narrator 's lack of understanding creates a barrier in his relationship with his brother, because even though the narrator has witnessed music within his community and has seen how it can be used as a form of expression, he does not yet realize the connections that he has with music and other artists within the community.
In Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories, Poe reflects key events and aspects of his life, including his interest in the topic of time, and milestones that occurred throughout his personal life. In “The Masque of the Red Death,” Poe gets his inspiration from his family members that perished during his lifetime, including his mother, foster mother, and wife Virginia; “The Tell-Tale Heart” is a reflection of his paranoia, anxiety, and the accusations people made of him being insane. The American author was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1809. Shortly afterwards, he was left by both of his parents, his father abandoning home, and his mother passing away from illness (Mystery). Poe was passed on to live with his foster family, the Allans (Mystery). His foster mother, Fanny Allan, died of tuberculosis in the year 1829, and as a result of this, he moved out due to his foster father’s treatment (Mystery). During his lifetime, Poe wrote stories and poems, and became the highly acclaimed author that he is today. Among his works include “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Masque of the Red Death,” “Annabel Lee,” and “The Raven,” which specifically became popular when it launched internationally (Masque). As an author, Poe is best known for his use of a dark theme, and his supernatural beings that can be found in his stories (Masque).
In order to become an expert performer Abbott and Collins (2004) suggest that talent development requires the possession of Psychological Characteristics for Developing Excellence (PCDE), which as the performer moves through the transition phases become further developed. PCDE’s are both trait characteristics and state related skills such as self-belief, dedication and discipline (Abbott and Collins, 2004). Another significant aspect of becoming an expert musician is deliberate practice. Deliberate practice requires determination with the correct motivation for the performer, and the necessary time and effort roughly equating to 10,000 hours (Ericsson et al., 1993). MacNamara, Holmes and Collins (2008) state that expert musicians require numerous aspects to reach the highest level; natural talent and/or deliberate practice combined with social context and significant others are needed to maintain performance at this high level. As talent is developed, the performer moves

Picture a loving family; it has a mother, father and a couple of kids with a pet. They live in a beautiful house and both parents have good jobs and the children do academically well; everything in their lives are prefect. Until the mother and father find out that they both have not been faithful and get a divorce, which leads the kids to feel guilt and anger about it, and strail out of control. The daughter starts to fail classes, and then becomes pregnant at a young age. The son becomes rebellious, starts to use drugs and runs away. This situation is something that happens more often than not; families have their share of struggle, and can have different outcomes. When people think about the idea of the family the first things that come to mind are a happy home with everything. But that is not case with some; as most families have issues with their family members. With the difference between writing a song and building a life is that with the The Last Song Ronnie was able to repair the conflict in her family with the song; this connect her with her father and had a better relationship with him. As for building a family the priority of that is making a stable life for oneself. In this discussion is to choose between what is better; writing a song or building a house.
