A) What is the issue? Who/What is being affected and how? (K/U)
In our world today, the most untalked about climate change event that is only getting worse from here is the melting ice caps. As we humans move on our daily lives, we are adding more to the global warming problem, and a majority of the population is not doing anything to solve this problem. For example, when people have the option to carpool, they decide not to, resulting in gas that only needed to be used once is now doubled. This is a big factor in global warming as it is the most effective and it happens on a daily basis (Hsaik,
2018). Another daily activity that increases the global warming problem is littering (Glick, 2017). When people are done with there candy wrappers, paper cups, etc. they leave the remainders on the ground and is often left within that environment for longer than it should be. The fact that laws needed to be made against this raises up the fact that this problem as well is not improving. As all of these different things eventually add up, and is growing more, making the earth warmer than it naturally is. Even a slight 2° - 3° can greatly affect the ice caps (Glick, 2017). In order for the ice caps to sustain themselves, they need to have a very low-temperature environment, and if the temperature of the ice caps does exceed over

For the past ten thousand years, the ice caps have been melting at a sustainable and healthy rate. The ice would freeze enough again during the winter season for the change to not be significant (Irene, 2013). In the past twenty years though, the ice caps have been melting at a exponential rate. The ice caps have been melting more in the last twenty years than it has in the past ten thousand years. It is estimated by many organizations that within thirty years most of the ice caps in many regions will disappear if it continues to melt at this rate (Glick,
Global Warming is a major world problem that we have but people don’t seem to realize that and it may end all life on earth as we know it. We are causing many problems to the earth that we don’t realize what we are doing we may think everything is ok but it’s not. Global warming is all our fault and we need to stop!
Prior to watching Chasing Ice, I felt like I was well informed on the issue of climate change as well as itʻs ecological effects. Although, I also cannot recall actually spending time to understand the severity of the issue or learning of decisions that I could make as an individual that would alleviate it. After watching Chasing Ice, I realized that ignorance and the general unawareness of the public is the first component of the issue that must be addressed in order to combat it. When facts and warnings of climate change are communicated through articles and other media outlets, people are often inclined to avoid the issue. As a result, the issue does not seem as urgent as it actually is and does not receive the attention it deserves. It
The Arctic Sea Ice is melting or slowly disappearing and it is said to be one of the reasons of global warming. What is happens is that the Arctic Ice it melts a little and gets smaller during the summer season and than during the winter season the ice gets bigger and expands over the Arctic Ocean, “a freeze-thaw cycle that in the Arctic has been dramatically altered by global warming (Global Warming Effects).” The Arctic Sea Ice in the past could grow up to 3 meters, which is around 10 feet, but now the average thick ness is becoming much less, and some scientist are afraid that in a few decades there might not be any sea ice during the summer (Global Warming Effects). Another major thing that has been discovered is that the amount of ice
An urgent issue, climate change is undoubtedly a sweeping global dilemma of paramount importance. Though most people are aware of this fact, many either choose to ignore it, or acknowledge it, but take no action against it. Those who do choose to take action usually attempt to combat climate change by using the methods that are most commonly discussed: becoming more energy efficient, recycling, and reducing emissions through using more sustainable transportation. Though these actions are helpful, they are not the most efficient way to counter climate change.
Today, there are already organizations promoting awareness of global warming and trying to make our thoughts to one. In Sweden, they produce environmentally friendly cars and give big tax; In Great Britain, they build a lot of windmills; Australia banned the sale of incandescent light bulbs and started a program called Proarbol to help stop deforestation and to increase jungles in Mexico. Countries including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, EU, India, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa and America have set goals to reduce green house gas emission or carbon emission by a certain amount until 2020. If there’s a problem, solutions defiantly exist and all we need is a little more consideration during everyday life. Things you can do are to set you’re A.C higher, take public transportation, start using renewable energy and encourage others around you, don’t pour oil or paint into sinks, donate for eco friendly groups, don’t litter in public areas and promote the cause to people around you. Bigger things the government can do is to establish protected wild-life areas and parks, limit road constructions, reduce deforestation, build more schools, fight wrong information and to prepare for impacts. Since human can create
Economic growth is vital to sustain human life; however, the unsustainable consumption of natural resources to attain this demand is leading to self-destruction. The Earth is facing environmental changes, including climate changes, which are altering the Earth system. Significantly higher thermal expansion is inescapable if the increasing pollution by carbon dioxide emission continues relentlessly. One evidence of this change is global warming and its impact in the Arctic Ice. The critical role of the Arctic in the global climate system implies that Arctic Ice changes will have far-reaching connotations for, and feedbacks to, the entire Earth. Currently, the warning signs include: rapid diminishing of sea ice, increased mass
Why should we care is a question that many people end up asking. Earth’s average temperature has increased by at least 2 degrees Fahrenheit in the past century and scientists expect it to go up to about 12 degrees Fahrenheit in the next. To us, those numbers seem quite small, but the average temperature a couple centuries ago was 4 degrees lower than it is today, allowing ice caps to stay ice caps. As the temperature increases, ice caps start to melt resulting in the rising of sea levels. With the sea rising, storms are becoming more and more frequent and stronger. High sea levels also cause torrential rains and flooding which threatens us as humans, wildlife and nature.
Scientists say that the melting of Arctic ice and ice caps are harmful to essential life of arctic animals like polar bears because they live on Arctic ice and ice caps (Rinkesh). Research has proven both of these theories wrong. The Arctic ice and ice caps have increased and are still increasing. Since 2012, the Arctic ice and ice caps have increased in volume by fifty percent (Foley). There are over twenty thousand polar bears in the world and over sixty percent of these polar bears live in Canada (Matishov). The population of polar bears is increasing and staying at a stable rate, depending on their location (Global Warming and Polar Bears). Since, both of these theories have been proven wrong, we do not believe that “global warming” is affecting the Arctic ice or Arctic
The Global Warming is one of the biggest issues of our time. Most people don't care or think that one person can make the difference. These people, including my self, continue their life like waiting for the problems to fix themselves. Scientists have said that in a few years many parts of our planet would be lost due to the big amount of water. If it continues like this there is going to be a time where lands would be extincted.
People know that the global warming isn’t good for the earth, but they don’t know how big of an effect it has on the earth. Some ways that the average person could help is by traveling on public transportation, or carpooling with a friend or family member to reduce the gas emissions that vehicles produce. The earth is already gone past a point that the human population needs to take action, but not so much that there is no going back. We can still change the rate that the ice caps melt, if we start
The problem is that the arctic melt has caused global warming and climate change. In the Arctic, the ice is melting and the air is warming. Unfortunately, the Arctic ocean is taking in a lot of sunlight which causes it to become even warmer. Ice and snow cover take up a smaller space and used to be only present for under a year, but now that number is even less. As this happens, permafrost warms. As the years go on, mountain glaciers, sea ice, and the Greenland ice sheet melt faster and faster. Throughout this century, the Arctic ocean will have a limited amount of ice or will have no ice at all. Climate change is to blame for the arctic melt.
Global warming has escalated at the fastest rate in recorded history. We Americans don’t realize how much CO2 is produced every year. The burning of fossil fuels to make electricity is the largest provenance heat-trapping pollution. The United States comes in second of producing large amounts of CO2. Many climate changes have occurred due to the burning of fossil fuels. We need to reduce the burning of fossil fuels and start utilizing clean energy. Us Americans need to stop utilizing gas-operated cars instead we should use battery operated cars which is better for the
Its scary to see the before and after photographs of some of these glaciers. Some of these glaciers have completely melted. If these glaciers continue to melt we will have serious freshwater shortages in the future, being that most of our freshwater is in glaciers. Our future generations will have a very hard task to deal with. This is not counting the fact that when these glaciers melt all that water goes into the sea causing the sea level to rise. This in return will cause flooding and destruction of entire communities around the globe. This is a serious problem which most of us are accepting like a boiling
This article critically examines the ways in which individuals could help reduce the impacts of global warming. The author challenges that every individual could significantly minimise the effects of global warming by adopting to a more responsible lifestyle.
Climate change is a worldwide issue. Not only is firm action and leadership critical in the United States, but also international efforts need to work toward reducing emissions. Strong public demand for climate change is crucial to enact effective global warming solutions for the future. Unless immediate action is taken, climate change will continue to escalate and continue to affect the entire planet. Ways nations and individuals can help repair the earth's atmosphere is reduce air pollution, use green energy, stop deforestation. Reducing air pollution could have a dramatic effect on climate change. Humans could impact this reduction by simple things such as conserving
