1. Introduction: How’d He Do That?
Memory, symbol, and pattern are three key factors that should be used and considered when reading, writing or analyzing literature. Memory in literature is crucial to recognize previously seen themes, characterizations, and plot. A writer, for example, may gain inspiration and ideas from something they had seen in a novel or film. On the other hand, the audience may make a connection to said inspiration and therefore understand the author’s work on a different level.
Symbolism in literature may have a similar effect, however is much more commonly seen in literature, film, and other forms of media. Symbolism in media strengthens a piece of work by using an object, place, or an action to represent an abstract idea.

However, these characteristics are apparent in many works that have nothing to do with vampires. These characteristics usually include a wise, powerful figure tricking and entrapping a younger, naive character. Over time, the monstrous character attacks the innocent’s vulnerability in order to maintain a glowing youth. The movie Jennifer’s Body (2009) immediately reminded me of the characteristics of Vampire Literature. Although this film isn’t directly about vampires, the plot of the film strongly upholds similar characteristics. In the movie, a young and beautiful high school girl is possessed by a demon and acquires a taste for human flesh. Her raging appetite is only satisfied by feasting on the corpses of her male classmates. Jennifer uses her sexuality to lure naive and vulnerable boys into their horrible fates. After feasting, she is physically glowing. Jennifer is rejuvenated and becomes powerful once again. This film absolutely entails key characteristics included in popular Vampire
