One of the most important aspects for me, in choosing where to go to college was finding a Christian college. Even though I have not yet decided between attending Mount Vernon Nazarene University and Grove City College, I am trusting that the Lord will reveal his will to me in this decision. The main goal in choosing to attend a Christian college is to grow close to the Lord through my college experience and be surrounded by others who share my love for the Lord and also the desire to learn more about the world that He has created. I want my education to be ultimately centered around the truths of God’s Word. For me, choosing a major was a difficult decision, but I have chosen to major in electrical engineering. Throughout my high school career,
Fictional characters are persons that, when enlivened through careful, skillful writing and articulate literary elements, are incredible and relatable figures in any thoughtful novel. In Under The Feet of Jesus, the vibrant and distinct character of Estrella is thoroughly expressed as a young and passionate girl who struggles with her understanding of things that aren’t familiar— such “foreign alphabets” and Perfecto’s tools. Estrella is consumed in these emotions towards things she doesn’t understand, or know for sure, and expresses her moods without restraint. Helena María Viramontes, the author of Under The Feet of Jesus, uses selection of detail and figurative language to further develop this same iron-willed and impassioned character
For most people, growing up is easy because the majority of families have plenty of privileges, but they usually are overlooked since many expect more than what they already have. But in the story Under the Feet of Jesus by Helena Maria Viramontes, Estrella is a girl who is deprived of a steady home because she is constantly moving from farm to farm. While she works arduously in the fields every day in unbearable conditions she attempts to maintain a stable environment for her siblings. By doing so, Estrella learns how to take responsibility in her family because she is beginning to mature out of her childish self. As she matures into an adult, she discovers the ability to associate herself with other adults and how to take risks that
The first goal I have is to understand the scriptures in the Bible and grow in my faith. When I started to look at colleges, I didn’t even think about attending a Christian college. I contacted a junior college in a nearby town to see what they had to offer me. By the grace of God, they recommend me to CCU. At the time that I enrolled, I didn’t realize that I would be required to take Bible classes. At first, I wondered
Throughout the Pauahi unit there have been numerous amounts of knowledge and wisdom found within the book. However, within the unit there were a few essential life lessons that I was able to take away from. One of which, came from the foundation of Kamehameha Schools. All throughout the unit, Pauahi was constantly making desicions that would continue to shape the future generations of native Hawaiians. Likewise, the will and creation of Kamehameha Schools is no exception. In Pauahi’s will, very specific words were stated in order to ensure the protection of Kamehameha Schools’ values and well-being. An example of such would be when she stated that Kamehameha Schools will prefer those with native Hawaiian blood over those

Bethany Church is the main character in my book, Hades by Alexandra Adornetto in the book series Halo. She is an angel that was sent down to Earth to keep an eye on the evil forces. She ends up falling in love with a mortal boy named Xavier Woods. The two started dating and fighting together against the dark forces. She finds it hard to stay away from him. For the past three years I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to play guitar in the youth worship band at Double Oak Community Church. This has both challenged me and has been an amazing outlet for the music that fills my head. I have grown both as a musician and spiritually from this experience. Every time I step on stage in the small youth center I get the feeling that I am helping someone else come closer to God, maybe for the first time. Leading worship is something I would suggest to any guitarist if they are looking for a way to play somewhere outside of their
Christendom College offers many compelling reasons that have increased my desire to attend this great school. Some of the things that I love about my high school are found at Christendom, such as its challenging, Classical curriculum. I simply loved the classes I was able to attend at the Summer Program and found that I felt at home in those lectures, which were deeply rooted in our Catholic faith. The lectures helped us examine their relevance in our own lives and encouraged us to always seek the truth. I observed that this inspired the whole class to consider the situations and messages in the themes we discuss in class, such as the value of friendship or how history shapes our identity.
In Stanley Hauerwas’s article titled “Go with God” he presents a letter to students who are going off to attend college. It’s a guide that proposes certain expectations and helpful information for students heading off on this new endeavor. He makes a point that going to college means much more than a diploma and hopes of high paying job. “To worship God and live faithfully are necessary conditions if you are to survive college. But as a Christian you are called to do more than survive” (Hauerwas). The advice in the letter reinforce its main theme: to be a student is a calling. This challenges the reader to think beyond the normal expectations of why we go off to college.
To start, the high school that I am currently attending is founded upon the same Christian core values as Union University, so I already have a basic understanding of what Christian education looks like. My high school has played a pivotal role in shaping my beliefs and my actions in response to those beliefs. It is for this reason I can be confident that the four years I will spend at Union will be a positive influence on my educational experience. I am also confident that studying at Union will foster growth in my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. While I am sure there are many other Christian colleges that are founded on the same core values as Union, it is unique in the ways it would inspire me to achieve academic excellence, while
When one chooses, to attend a Christian University, you expect to be met and challenged by the word of God and those who believe in the Christ, but I was not prepared for the amount of integration biblical principles would have in my weekly assignments. Through the adult studies seminar II course, I have learned to rest in the truth
I was three years old standing in front of over two hundred people in my church, about to sing “Go Tell It on The Mountain” for our yearly Christmas extravaganza. I remember being paralyzed with fear and running off stage crying into my mother’s arms. Two years later, I refused to let fear get to me, and I was determined to get back on stage and sing. My five-year-old self was very proud of finally getting to perform my favorite Christmas Hymn, and I fell in love with being able to sing in front of others. If there is one thing that has shaped me who I am today: it would be music.
In my life, I have been handed many troubles and endless stresses. I have made poor decisions, and I have made great decisions, some that were not Godly. However, I have come to find that the best decisions were made when I put trust in God and know that he has a plan for my life. That being said, I made a recent decision that may not have been in my best interest and revolved around God. I believe that attending a Christian school, rooted in God and God’s love, I can find peace and renewal again. I can fellowship with fellow believers and walk with and receive help from believers. I have fallen away from my walk with God recently, and made a decision that wasn’t in my best interest. I am realizing this now and I do believe attending Colorado Christian University
