Metal braces and ceramic braces are both orthodontic treatments that will improve your oral health. They are equally effective and take the same amount of time to move teeth to the correct position. However, there is one big difference that may cause you to choose one over the other and that is, appearance.

Metal braces are the traditional type of braces, but they have been upgraded from 50 years ago. Gone are the huge metal brackets that inspired the expression metal mouth. This is why you need to brush every time you eat, even after a bag of chips, rinse with mouthwash and floss every day without fail. You will need to devote time to this oral care if you want to avoid serious problems later. Any trapped food that is not removed will form plaque that could cause decay. Your teeth could become stained, and it may mean you have to wear the braces longer.
