Shakespeare employs imagery and metaphor in this passage to develop Romeo’s character, that he believes that fate is undefeatable, giving up on his life, and progresses the play into his death. After Romeo finds Juliet in the tomb, he says “And shake the yoke of inauspicious stars From this world-wearied flesh!” (1.4.114) The image of stars, shows that the arrangement of the stars is not promising, but he discards the warning, demonstrating character development. However, Romeo says that the world is causing him to become too tired, with Juliet’s death along with events before. Then, Shakespeare uses a metaphor to express Romeo’s new opinions. Just before killing himself, Romeo says “Come, bitter conduct, come, unsavory guide! Thou desperate
In the drama, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, there are several long speeches that show different types of figurative language and structure. One that is particularly intriguing is the speech Mercutio makes when trying to persuade Romeo to go to the Capulet party. In this speech Mercutio describes Queen Mab, who is a fairy like woman that controls dreams. She makes ladies dream of kisses, soldiers dream of the blood of enemies, and lawyers dream of money. Within this speech about Queen Mab, Shakespeare uses metaphorical language, imagery, specific tones, and structure to create an image for the audience and contribute to the larger plot of the play.

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare about two young lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their families. It was one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays. Baz Luhrman made a film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet’s film adaptation was intended for teenagers and old target audiences because teenagers are interested in seeing Leonardo Di Caprio act as Romeo and because they fantasize in having that sort of relationship that Romeo and Juliet have. Adult audiences would watch the film as a memory of the story in a film and additionally because they like Shakespeare.
Love, such a funny thing to think about. A lot of people can’t even explain love without smiling, blushing and giggling about it or being a little upset remembering about the mistake they did in the past being a little bit bitter about it. Some people believe in a forever in love, but of course, others don’t. It’s up to you to think about it, whether or not you’ve had a good experience with love or just start to make a long rant about how stupid it is and how forever is not real. I have a bit of a different approach when it comes to describing love. My culture from the Philippines made me believe that in the right person, in the right time and in the right place, forever in love can be achieved. A song about someone who found their soul
Metaphors were widely used in their first meeting as Romeo first lays eyes on Juliet during the party which described how in the crowd “shows a snowy dove trooping with crows” (1.5.55). This comparison of Juliet as a pure dove surrounded by ugly crows demonstrates how Romeo instantly has a strong attraction to her since she is one-of-a-kind in his eyes. The moment his eyes lay on Juliet, everything else is dull in comparison including Rosaline who was the reason he was so heartbroken in the past few days. Romeo, when taking hold of Juliet’s hand, states that he will “profane with my unworthiest hand this holy shrine” (1.5.104-105). Romeo feels he is unworthy, but will still try to charm the elegant Juliet to be with her. Pilgrims are usually
In the tragic love story Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare shows how although the power of love can bring positive experiences, it can also bring destruction and drastic changes to the lives of all involved. He illustrates this idea through numerous poetic devices: creative metaphors, meaningful puns, and character-related contrast. Romeo and Juliets’ love was rushed, impulsive, and created sorrow for both parties involved.
In Act II, Scene II, lines 2‐7, how is Romeo using metaphor to describe Juliet’s beauty?
The Death Scene in the text version has more tension. It perfectly states the events that occur between Romeo and Juliet that leads them to their death. On the other hand, the Luhrmann version also describes well the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet but has a lot of differences due to its modern time era.
As the characters talk of their emotions out loud, they use celestial imagery, representing the role of fate, who is continually working against them. Although the audience already knows of Romeo’s fate, Romeo does not. However right before leaving for the Capulet Ball, Romeo feels uncertain of his decision to attend: “I fear too early, for my mind misgives / some consequence yet hanging in the stars,” (I, iv, 106-107). Here, fate has carefully embedded Romeo, both towards his destiny but also towards his deathbed, placing the already confused character in an impossible situation: “Ask for me tomorrow, / and you shall find me a grave man.” (III. i. 93-94). Even though Romeo’s fate is already set in stone, Shakespeare wrote the play with such mastery, making the audience believe that even the slightest change of choice made by Romeo could change his fate, when imaginably, Romeo and Juliet’s fate was not written for them, but for the future of fair
Furthermore, the play also incoperates tragedy since Romeo's companion Mercutio is slain after dueling with Juliet's cousin Tybalt. In act 3 scene 1 Mercutio and Benvolio are standing outside when Tybalt comes around picking a fight with Mercutio. Mercutio and Tybalt than duel and while Romeo tires to stop both of them Tybalt takes the opportunity and stabs Mercutio in the chest. This is tragedy as Romeo's companion and best friend dies at the hand of his loves cousin. Thus proving that the play Romeo and Juliet revolves more on tragedy than love.
Juliet's use of simile in Act 2, Scene 2 demonstrates her dramatic flair. In this scene, Romeo sneaks in to talk with Juliet after meeting her at the feast earlier that night. Juliet says that they are taking this to fast, as the couple had just met. Juliet states, “It is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden;/Too like the lightning, which doth cease to be/Ere one can say 'It lightens.' Sweet, good night!” (2.2.125-128). In other words, Juliet claims that this is going too fast; at this rate, it will be like lightning, a bright flash but gone before you can react to it. The simile used is like lightning. This compares their relationship to lightning in that it is a quick but flashy thing. This device is used to show how Juliet can take things

People repeatedly comment that William Shakespeare was and still is a legend. It is amazing how Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet written centuries ago can be better than any movie productions of Romeo and Juliet, which had much better technology to work with. Although the films appeared more alluring and may be slightly easier to follow, they left out some major parts. The play had better plot details and the original Shakespearian language which made it much more interesting and by far a better representation of the story. This essay will prove why the original play should be taught to English students over all film versions.
