I think the most problematic effect that meth manufacturing presents to the environment and to the community is the fact that you get these non-qualified individuals working with potentially harmful chemicals. Any one with the determination to want to manufacture methamphetamine can do it with readily accessible products and with a simple search on the internet, on “How to make meth”, as Hart et al. (2013) states. Given the impression of such an ease of production, this creates hazards not only to the environment but the communities in which it is being produced itself, by potential chemical leaks or explosions from the highly flammable gases emitted during its production, if not handled properly. Now, what does that mean for the community?
The Meth Epidemic was a time where an abundance of individuals across the United States was exposed to meth. It became an addiction that could not be stopped. Higher officials done everything they could to stop it but meth always found its way to others. Unfortunately, this has affected society because of the high crime rate it has caused. Hence, their addiction has caused them to make decisions that has affected society and causing others to make serious decisions.
Due to the impaired state while using meth, when a user is irritable they start to lose patience for others. This is dangerous because users don’t understand the amount of force they use if they were to hit someone, or worse, what the consequence would be if they were to have a deadly weapon. Anxiety is also a big issue with users; they feel that they are invincible and they want something to do. Some users have gone as far as believing they can fly; so they jump off a building or out a window. The irregular heart rate can be deadly if you have any type of minor heart disease. Finally, the increase in physical activity puts others in
Crystal meth, we’ve might’ve heard of it from time to time, but what exactly is it? Crystal methamphetamine has become a widespread epidemic across the United States. Methamphetamine crosses all barriers in today’s society, culturally, socially, and economically. The abuse of this drug and its negative oral effects have become all too familiar amongst dentist and dental healthcare workers. Meth last much longer than crack cocaine and although it is much cheaper to purchase, it is much more hazardous and possibly even deadlier to process. The abuse of this drug leads its victims to have an accelerated physical appearance and devastating oral effects known as Meth Mouth.
Crystal Meth which is also called methamphetamine (and is more commonly known as ice) was created in 1919 by Japan. This drug was used during the war since it kept soldiers active and alert. The Japanese pilots were given high doses of crystal meth before going on suicide missions. In the 1950’s crystal meth was used by students, workers and athletes and the drug was starting to become abused. In 1970, the government official banned crystal meth.
Methamphetamine, (a synthetic drug with more rapid and lasting effects than amphetamine, use illegally as a stimulant and as a prescription drug to treat narcolepsy and maintain blood pressure) was develop from its parent drug, amphetamine, (a synthetic, addictive, mood-altering drug, use illegally as a stimulant and legally as a prescription drug to treat children with ADD and adults with narcolepsy) and was used originally in nasal decongestants and bronchial inhalers (NIH, 2015). Meth is a dangerous and potent chemical and, as with all drugs, a poison that first acts as a stimulant, but then begins to systematically destroy the body, meth is a synthetic (man-made) chemical. Meth is commonly manufactured in illegal, hidden laboratories, mixing
Speed, stove top, biker’s coffee or hot ice, there are many names for Methamphetamines. They are cheap and provide a fast-powerful high that makes it attractive to users. Meth is an intensely addictive stimulant and it perilously affects the central nervous system. Use of the drug can quickly lead to addiction and prolonged use creates a variety of serious health and social problems for individuals and their families.
When meth production increased it caused so many problems. There was a large increase in foster kids put in the system. They did not have a home or a family because their family would not stop making, or doing drugs. Producing meth causes toxins to go into the air and can make people extremely sick. Prisons were over crowded with people, and people were dying from over doses, or committing serious crimes while using
The meth epidemic first stuck Oregon, and they were hit the hardest by the drug. A trailer park in Portland was the addicts hangout spot to kick-back after the drug kicked in. The abuse did not just attack the addicts, but the families as well. Some of the families had to get restraining orders against the addict. Reporters began to take notice of the effect meth had on people. They notice that meth was the top cause for property damage, and why children were removed from their homes.
Property owners are not taking the hardest hit from the meth addicts. The children and spouses are the ones who have to suffer the most. Fifty percent of children that are in foster care have parents that are meth addicts. One nine year old child related in absolute detail how to cook meth, how her father made the children taste the batch, and how it made them feel. She went on to speak of violence, constant viewing of pornography, and the sexual activities that involved her when the adults were high. Most of these foster children are known as meth orphans.
The year was 2001 and Trisha Davis just awoke to the sound of her friends knocking on her bedroom door. At the time, Trisha was 19 years old, married, and pregnant with her first child, a girl, Sarah. Her husband, Seth, was a pizza delivery boy and barely made enough for both of them to live, let alone three of them. Trisha's friends asked her if she wanted to go to a big party that was going on that night. She accepted the invitation and got ready for the day. Later that night Trisha got to the party and noticed it wasn't the normal ecstasy and alcohol parties that she was used to. No, everyone here had syringes and were cooking some kind of substance in a spoon. Trisha was very accustomed to drug use. Over the years she had taken many drugs
The use of methamphetamine is a growing problem in the United States. One step taken in stopping the manufacturing, trafficking, and use of methamphetamine has been limiting the sale of methamphetamine precursor drugs: ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, and phenylpropanolamine. The United States government has implemented the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act of 2005. This act puts restrictions on meth precursor drugs, but 41 states have individually enacted laws limiting sales of these drugs as well.
The short-term effects are users will have sleep deprivation and anxious. It can also cause euphoria and increase the users’ heart beats. Long-term users would have even worse impacts. The user’s skin will developed irritation and their flesh will start burning and have holes on it. It will also cause the destruction in blood vessels and cells. There are many visible signs that people can tell if that person uses meth or not, for example: teeth will turn black and start falling, visible skins destruction, incredibly skinny, etc...
Writing this paper is a life experience. What I have learned will help me in my new career, from the information I have learned in class and the research I have done is a tremendous benefit. I have read and re-read the research on Crystal Meth and at times felt like I was going in circles, but this has encouraged and allowed personal growth to take place within myself and with the person I spoke with during the interview, in which I took off work and drove six hours to be able to ask pertinent information to get a bigger picture on this subject. Not to just learn about the tree, but the forest of Crystal Meth epidemic that’s going on in our world.
Crystal abusers become so heavily reliant on the drug that they will go to any extreme to get more- including violent crimes. Due to the manor in which meth is produced the users have no way of knowing what is actually in the product. Along the distribution path the product is cut- to increase profit by creating more product, which puts the user at increased risk of danger. Which brings out many questions, such as: why start, why continue and most of all, why not just quit?
In the Communist Manifesto Karl Marx starts by announcing the spectre that he stated was haunting Europe in the 1800’s, which was the spectre of Communism and forced industrial labor. Marx stated social issues and inequalities that publicly announced his views on the misconceptions that the public have not yet spoken of. Just like in the Manifesto, today in our society we are constantly reading about social issues in our newspapers such as environmental issues, labor issues, and educational issues that is occurring in our society. The New York Times is a newspaper that constantly announces information about our social inequalities as well as issues that Karl Marx wrote about in the Manifesto. In the article named: “Report Cites Forced Labor
