Music is universal all around the world. Music is a combination of instruments and vocals to produce sounds that involve tone color, rhythm, meter, tempo, etc. They all come together and give off a beautiful sound that is pleasing. There are many elements to music, in which there is a lot of knowledge to learn. Timbre is an element of music that has an important part, in which it is the sound quality of the pitch and intensity. It is what helps our ears identify the different pitches and loudness. Many studies have been done to show that it takes duration of about sixty milliseconds to recognize the tone color. They are separated because men and women have different vocal ranges. Generally, women have higher and men have lower vocal ranges. For women, the ranges are soprano, mezzo-soprano, and alto (contralto). Soprano is the highest of the female voices; it ranges from the A note below the middle C to the F or G note. Mezzo-Soprano is where most females are; it ranges from the G note below the middle C to the E note. Alto, also known as contralto, is the lowest of the female voices. It ranges between the E note below the middle C to the second G note above the middle C. For men, the ranges are tenor, baritone, and bass. Tenor is the highest of the male voices; it ranges between the C note one octave below the middle C to the C note one octave above middle C. For the woodwind instruments, it includes flute, clarinet, piccolo, bass clarinet, oboe, English horn, bassoon, contrabassoon, etc. These instruments produce vibrations of air with a long or short tube depending on the instrument. It can only produce one note at a time. The brass instrumental family is made up of a trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn, etc. These instruments are often used in jazz and rock groups. To produce sound, the vibration comes from the cup-like mouthpiece that the player blows into. For the keyboard instruments, it includes an organ, piano, harpsichord, accordion, etc. They can produce many tones at the same time without being hard. Percussion has two different types; they are definite and indefinite.
