But after a hardship, everything seems brighter, you are grateful for everything and your eyes are opened to a completely different perspective. Hardships are challenging but after overcoming hardships, you will be satisfied with excellent results.

Jordan really targeted an audience of adults and teenagers who have a biased mindset, with the goal of having them rethink their morals about equality in the U.S. Nike was able to use Jordan as a spokesperson so that he can urge audience members to believe in what the company stands for, which is equality and build trust and in their customers to promote their business and products. This was also a source of ethos displayed. The Declaration of Independence is also used as a prime source of persuasion that make people question their humanity, due to the amble amount of inequality in the world. If equality does exist in the U.S, then there must be boundaries that are set. Nike tries to connect to that idea by including sports with the goal of building more credibility or trust, also known as ethos.

Skey says, “They clearly have a strong and emotional brand for young people.” Her quote benefits the idea of the use of emotional connections with their audience in the advertisements Nike uses. Leonard states in the Shoes, Diplomas, And The American Dream article that “Nike does have a message to market. The company is selling high-school and college athletes the prospect of not just a career but a future.” It is also stated in the article that people are “Willing to invest – to bet on – the future because of the seductive allure of the American dream” (Leonard). The products Nike sells can assist in the success of an athlete due to the use of the product. If a runner was to use crappy shoes, they may lack in their abilities due to the poor quality of the shoes. Another point is that if one is successful with a Nike product, they would stay with that product or upgrade when a better quality of the product by the same company, Nike, comes out. When success is found within one company, a customer is more likely to stay within the company product

Next, by an athlete staying and completing their education teaches the athlete maturity levels and raises maturity levels of an athlete. By staying in college an athlete can grow, develop, and mature throughout the course of their years in college. The athletes brain is more developed. The athlete has a more mature, developed mindset that benefits the athlete by allowing them to see game plans in a different perspective and allows the athlete to face challenges with a clearer mind, because college has equipped them with more experience in tough situations. For example, Michael Jordan, also known as MJ, received a full athletic scholarship to North Carolina University in 1981. Jordan played for the North Carolina Tar Heels for 3 years. Although Jordan was drafted in the 1984 NBA draft, he was only a junior in college.

Michael Jeffrey Jordan or MJ is an American retired professional basketball player, businessman and Chairman of the Charlotte Hornets. Michael has all these great titles under his belt that make him the millionaire he is today. However, his most significant accomplishment throughout his career is being the inspiration for the production of Air Jordan basketball footwear and athletic clothing produced by Nike. These accomplishments wasn’t reached overnight, it took lots of dedication and hard-work. Most people think that following in successful persons footsteps is difficult. It is, but it is possible. There are tremendous amounts of steps that you could take to achieve similar results and achievements.

Everyone knows Michael jordan is the best NBA player of all time.However he never made his middle school or high school team. He never gave up. It just motivated him to do better. He kept pushing himself to get better. All accomplishments make you feel better about yourself.One thing I want to accomplish is getting a job after high school because I can earn money for collage, purchase a car, and give the work experience.

In 1984, after he won the championship at North Carolina, Michael Jordan was signed to a five year endorsement deal by Nike. The contract was worth about 2.5 million dollars. A lot of people were very judgmental because of the huge endorsement given to a rookie. I am surprised as well because in this day and age, a company would never do that. However, because Michael Jordan had so much skill, he made all of the skeptical people eat their own words.

Michael Jordan entered the NBA in 1984 as a third overall pick. Leaving college early to pursue his career, Jordan was picked up by the bulls, one of the worst teams in the league. Michael had received Rookie of the year and helped the Bulls reach the playoffs. Michael grew up playing many sports, but his two favorite were basketball and baseball. In high school, he tried out for the boys varsity basketball team. He did not make varsity but got bumped down to Junior Varsity. He has influenced the lives of many around the world by his fashion, his kind heart, and the influence of the world around him.

He Gained power and influenced a world of youth through numerous forms on national level coverage. Michael Jordan continues to be a social influence. The Jordan shoe continues to sell at alarming rates when there is a release date for a Retro Jordan. These shoes continue to sell because of his social influence. There was a time when we saw Michael play in those shoes, and now the Jordan shoe brand has not only solidified itself in the game of basketball, but now it is found in almost every major sport. Michael Jordan currently sponsors 21 active NBA players, including Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Kawhi Leonard, Russell Westbrook, and Carmelo Anthony. These players also endorse Jordan Brand products. The Jordan brand is also sponsored in the WNBA. The Jordan brand is not just for basketball anymore. The shoes are sponsored in other leagues such as the MLB, NFL and NASCAR. The brand has also weaved its way into the sport of boxing with one of the most notable sponsors being Roy Jones Jr. Transcending from a shoe and clothing brand. Jim Riswold worked for this campaign with the filmmaker Spike Lee and they both got inspired of this creative idea from the first Spike’s movie, She’s Gotta Have It. Jim Riswold recalled his inspiration from that movie, “There’s a character in the movie named Mars Blackmon who so loves the man Air Jordan and the Air Jordan shoes, when he has the chance to sleep with the girl of his dreams he won’t remove his Jordan’s” (Wieden + Kennedy). By his inspiration, Jim and Spike were starting to shoot their first Spike and Mike commercials, which was also the first time humor ever made into Nike spot. Jim and Spike executed the spots more easier than they thought because they caught the point of both Mars Blackmon, Michael Jordan and the Nike Jordan shoes together into one spot. Most of the audience already known who is the Michael Jordan, but less people known Mars Blackmon who is the number one big fan of Michael Jordan. So, Jim wanted to shot the commercial like Mars instead of Spike. Basically Jim made Mars pretended to produce, wrote, and recorded it by himself. This commercial was well executed and demonstrated, thus it gave the positive, playful and powerful identity to the NBA especially for the Jordan’s humanizing image as a big star

The use of specific athletes in marketing campaigns really began to show promise when athletes like Jordan began wearing their own brands of shoes. The idea to consumers or fans of the NBA that they could wear the same shoes as Michael Jordan, and somehow play like him was an easy sell by Nike. Today it is now common for marketable athletes in almost all sports to wear their own style of shoes, spikes, or skates. An interesting point to make is that through Nike Michael Jordan eventually launched his own clothing line called Jumpman23 that makes everything from socks and underwear to winter coats. Even though Jordan has been retired since 1999 the Jumpman23 company has continued to release a new shoe every single year that are simply called “Jordan 24”, an increasing corresponding number to the number of years the shoes have been produced. The new Jordan shoes still retails at over $150 a pair even though Mike hasn’t stepped on the court in 11 years! After retirement and becoming the CEO of the Jumpman brand Michael Jordan has been able to court other famous athletes from a variety of sports to wear his brand. A few examples of the athletes include Derek Jeter (baseball), Dwayne Wade (basketball), Jason Taylor (football), and April Holmes (track and field). Nike invested in their brand by getting sports heroes to advertise for their brand such as Michael Jordon, Tiger Woods and the Brazilian football team. This further fuel the products appeal towards the consumers.
