The topic of the best player to ever step on a basketball court is a subject that has been discussed and argued over and over again across the world. But through the evidence of his accolades, achievements, and stats, almost everyone knows he’s the best in all of history. It seems as though most sports do not have a specific person who is considered to be the greatest but Michael Jordan is undisputedly the best of all time. I never got the chance to see him play in person, but if I did I would have gotten “the greatest concert of my life” (Wilbon). That’s how good he was. Michael Jeffrey Jordan is the greatest basketball player to ever live because he won ten scoring titles and averaged 30 points per game while he made the game global, dominated the sport offensively as he made the all NBA defensive team nine times, and went six for six in the NBA finals. The National Basketball Association is known for having the world’s best basketball talents from around the world. However, every once in awhile a player comes who is just simply on another level that everyone else. Now If you were to walk to to “Sir Altitude’s” trophy room you would see shelves covered in awards and accolades he has won for his fantastic offensive dominance. Basketball is not only a game of scoring but it’s a game of defense also. There is a popular saying, “defense wins championships” and that philosophy seemed to work for Michael Jordan. There were a lot of great players in the 90s but what set MJ apart from the rest were his defensive abilities. Michael Jeffrey Jordan was named all NBA defensive first team (meaning he was a top 5 defender in the league) 9 times throughout his illustrious career. That is the NBA record along with only a few others. Not bad for the most dominant scorer in history. Mike’s coach through all his championships, Phil Jackson, said this about Jordan’s defense. “No question, Michael was a tougher, more intimidating defender. He could break through virtually any screen and shut down almost any player with his intense, laser-focused style of defense” (Jackson).
