Michael Jordan, Brett Favre, and Dario Franchitti are some of the greatest and most influential male athletes that have ever played sports. Michael Jordan was born on February 17th, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up he was not a natural basketball player , he didnt make his high school team his freshman year. He had some growth spurts which gave him “the legs of a high jumper and the shoulders of a football linebacker” (Lloyd 1). Michael was a hard worker in high school as he got up to practice at 6:00 am before school and went to basketball camps to work on his skills. Dario is considered to be one of the best Indy car drivers. He won the Indy car series championship in 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011. He has also won the Indianapolis 500 three times, in 2007, 2010 and 2012. The Indianapolis 500 is considered the biggest race of the Indy Car series. Indy Car is considered one of the most dangerous sports as cars reach speeds of 200 miles per hour and have an open cockpit, which means nothing to protect them from flying debris. Dario has won many races but he is known best for his famous crash at Houston. In the last lap of the race Franchitti collided with Takuma Sato on the final lap, causing Franchitti to get airborne and fly into the turn five catch fence. thriteen fans were injured by flying debris, and Franchitti suffered a spinal fracture, right ankle fracture, and a concussion. He then was forced to retire as doctors told him if he continued to race he risked permanent paralysis. He lost more than his career that day. As five weeks from his memory were lost and sometime he can’t remember words. Dario said that “The last thing I remember was a buddy’s wedding a few weeks before the accident. Don’t remember anything from the weekend of the race. No recollection” (Daniel). He is one of the most well-known Indy Car drivers as he got to drive the pace car for last year’s Indianapolis 500. Franchitti’s famous quote “One second everything’s going fine, and then, Boom … your life is changed. It’s literally the blink of an eye.”(Daniel) Franchittis is one of the lucky ones as five people have died in Indy car. Fellow teammate Dan Wheldon in 2012. Driving Indy car is a dangerous sport that’s for sure. On August 14th 2015 Justin Wilson was struck by a front end of a car and was killed.
