The film “The Brandon Teena Story” followed the story of Teena Brandon’s, who went by the name Brandon, death in Nebraska. Brandon lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, as a male, despite him being born as a female, at the start of the film. The audience was informed that Brandon had been behaving, acting, and living as a male for years. Brandon’s mother, Joann Brandon, had previously sent Brandon to counseling to treat his attempts and ideas about suicide, and presumably his gender dysphoria. However, after returning from counseling, Brandon’s want of being of man was only solidified. In the middle of November 1993, Brandon moved to Falls City Nebraska. It was in Falls City, Nebraska where Brandon met and befriended ex-convicts Tom Nissen and
John Carpenter’s Halloween was released in the fall of 1978; little did he know, his independent film would change the face of slasher films as we know it. This film was responsible for ushering in what we recognize today as modern horror. With a budget of just over $300,000, Halloween was shot in 20 days. It went on to become the highest grossing independent film of all time bringing in over $60 million until 1990; however, this film was not an instant success (Halloween UnMasked, 1999). Halloween also brandished a newer type of hero - a heroine. Jamie Lee Curtis has become known as the Scream Queen as a result of this film where she paved the way for other heroines in the slasher genre.
Intersectionality is the framework I will be using as my analytical anchor for this assignment. The term intersectionality was originally coined by a lawyer, professor, and civil rights activist named Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw. During a case she was following, Kimberlé created the term intersectionality to explain how a group of women were not being beaten solely because they were black, nor were they beaten solely because they were women, but rather that they were both black and women (00:57 of video). Intersectionality is the explanation of how society operates with intersecting and overlapping systems of oppression, discrimination, and domination. The theory tries to explain the multitude of societal layers, individual identities and

In the film, Inside Out directed by Pete Docter and Ronnie del Carmen it talks
Why is Jack the Ripper seen as one of Britain’s most notorious serial killers of all time? Evidence suggest that he simply could have been a scapegoat for the overcrowded parish of Whitechapel which had vast amounts of crime including burglary and high levels of alcohol dependency which lead to many brothels opening and the number of prostitutes in Whitechapel rising dramatically. So was Jack the Ripper even a real serial killer? Or does theory explain that his murders could have been cover ups put in place to create a moral panic to reduce the number of working prostitutes as they had become scared of being murdered. If Jack the Ripper was not a scapegoat the New Right would argue that it is likely he made a rational calculation of the consequences of his crimes and carried them out because the benefit to society was greater than the cost to him, the New Right would have blamed Jack the Rippers criminal activities on poor socialisation from his family. Postmodernist authors Levin and McDevitt would argue he was a criminal but he only committed these crimes because he needed variation from his daily routine and killing the prostitutes was giving him the thrills and excitement that he needed in his life. A combination of all these different arguments and possible explanations creates debates that draw me into the study of Sociology and Criminology.
As society takes steps forward, it always takes a few backward. We try to move past our judgmental and prejudice ways, but they tend to rear their heads repeatedly. It is the discernment that pushes people away from their goals, alters their mindset to the point of giving up. In the case of Steve Jobs and Straight Outta Compton, they both had to go through intense judgment from their peers and the government respectively; they prove that if you do not give up when things get tough you can persevere.
Socialization plays a huge role in zombie narratives and has evolved tremendously within films. It refers to the lasting process of inheriting and circulating norms, customs and principles, providing an individual with the skills and habits required for partaking within his or her own society. In Night of the Living Dead Romero’s monsters are mainly othered creatures, having virtually no subjective, human abilities and promising almost no emotional suture with the viewers. Although, it is noticeable that the zombies in this film aren’t shown as bloody figures with limbs falling off, they do look like regular people. This explains why Barbra does not hesitate to run towards her zombie brother.
Many individuals argue that Good Will Hunting is one of the most sociologically diverse movies out there. The amount of references that can be drawn back to concepts studied in sociology is incredible. Good Will hunting is about a 20-year-old, rambunctious male, Will, that tends to stick himself in positions that are not suitable for him. Wills tendency to get himself into trouble attributes to him ending up living on the south side of Boston as a janitor at MIT. His life suddenly takes a positive turn when will reveals his gift for others to see. A math professor posts a mathematical equation on a board outside of his room that had previously been unsolvable by a student in his class. That following day while will was cleaning the hallway
“Sociological Imagination,” by Charles Wright Mills is a book about the linkage of an individual’s biography to public issues and world history. Mills creates a concept that allows one to view where their presence is in society. The whole point is to evaluate the larger things that lead one to where they are now. Using the correlation between society and yourself allows one to view your issues as society’s issues. Education is among these issues that can be traced as a social issue. Moreover, my education achievements can be traced back before I was born.
I was very aware of sexual violence on college campuses so I was not really surprised by the information presented in The Hunting Ground. Before I moved to Cleveland, Ohio two years ago I live in North Carolina. I have friends that are students at UNC. I was a student at East Carolina University and lived on campus two years ago. Before move in day we were required to complete lessons online about campus safety, dorm safety, sex, and alcohol/ drugs. I lived in an all-girl hall, meaning there were no boys. We always instructed to never walk alone at night, make sure our phones were always working, not to leave our drinks unattended, and the dangers of certain frat house parties. I had many friends in sororities so I would hear stories. Sarah
According to Durkheim, Social fact or social phenomenon are the main subject matter of sociology. He said in one of his pieces that social fact must be studied distinct from the biological and psychological phenomenon. Social order is the trend of behavior being used to exercise power over another person. It has become rules and regulations that have been set up by some authorities to be obeyed by another group of people who are being undermined in a society, it is a situation that oppressed people and limits them from their liberties. When people go through these situations they cannot function the way they are supposed to function because they are limited by their freedom. These social orders are not only laws but rather certain norms created by the authority to put a whole race into a situation where they are very far from freedom of speech, movement, and knowledge. African Americans are an example of a race that has been through discrimination at workplaces, schools, community etc. They are one race which has been a label or put in a class where the situation will never permit you to climb the ladder of success. Although you might have all the certification, qualification, the best schools, etc. but the fact that you came from the poor class or the lower class, it becomes very difficult for the Caucasian people to give you the opportunity you deserve, because of this, the citizens of American have been grouped into different classes which are upper, middle, working,
