We all know that there are different types of movies. Some prefer comedy, others prefer action, and there are those who enjoy being scared out of their wits while watching a horror movie. If you're one of those who enjoy horror movies, you may know that there could be a slight debate to which horror movie or scary character reins superior. If someone had to choose, I'd say it'd be a close tie between Freddie Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm Street series, and Michael Myers from the Halloween series. Overall Michael Myers should be the head horror movie/scary character there is, over Freddie Krueger. Michael Myers and Freddie Krueger are both classic scary movies. I feel like they invented the whole genre. Michael Myers just seems to stick …show more content…
I mean your dream always starts off good and then all of a sudden you find yourself in your worse nightmare. That is when you know you may be meeting Freddy quite soon. Have no fear though, try waking yourself up! You can do this by causing yourself pain (burn yourself, getting cut, falling, etc.). We know that isn't the ideal way of things, but really, do you want to die in your dreams? Congratulations! You escaped from Freddy and you can do this over and over again. If you no longer become afraid of him, your in the clear for the rest of your life. Freddy is just wanting revenge on those who burned him alive. Michael Myers' killings are way more logical. You are killed by being stabbed to death, choked, hung, or even just squeezed to death. Once you're dead, you're dead. It's not just from sleeping. We all know that people die in the most common ways. Those ways are that you either bleed out or you have some sort of deadly diseases. His ways are just more realistic. Freddy Krueger's way of killing would be hard to prove in theory. They say once you die in your dreams, you die in real life. There isn't an exact way to prove that theory. I suppose sometimes you may act out your dreams and Freddy can make you do that from time to time, but I'm sure if someone saw a sleeping person trying to harm themselves they'd try to help. There isn't a ton of logic to this at
A serial killer is a person who kills multiple people in a certain manner, this might include raping, shooting, stabbing, choking, etc. Richard Trenton Chase, most known as “The Vampire of Sacramento” was an American, male serial killer who was responsible for the death of six people within a month in Sacramento, California. He was given the nickname of “vampire”; he was known for drinking his victims blood and even eat the remains. He was also guilty for going around neighborhoods and trying to open unlocked doors, claiming unlocked doors represented an invitation for the murderer to go in. It was also stated that he had a disturbing childhood which led him to become a sadistic and mental killer, also the cause for developing hypochondria
Dreaming is yet another state of consciousness. A dream is simply an unfolding episode of mental images that involve characters and events. Dreams usually tend to occur during REM sleep but can occur during NREM sleep as well. We dream on a variety of topics, subjects, and individuals. No dream can be exactly interpreted or defined, therefore people have always been fascinated with what, why, and how we dream. An unpleasant and almost terrifying type of dream is a nightmare. This is a very vivid, almost real
The music in horror movies are very similar to our modern time music but not the same. It is a great way to scare you because the sound can turn suddenly loud and scary music can also create suspense. Jaws had the best music technique. One example was when the shark comes attack the music used there made the movie one of the best. For another example when there are on the beach the music was really calm lt all sudden change to scary music that is used when the shark comes attack The Others used music for a fake scare also at the end when they know they are dead also the beginning.signs hads sunden music scares that was really good for scaring people but jaw was the best.If you use good
All horror movies have antagonists; however, the type of antagonist plays an important role in the quality of the movie. The main types of antagonists are serial killers, governments (or lack thereof), and ghosts. Movies with governments as the antagonist usually have a figurehead that represents it such as in The Purge where one guy named “The Polite Leader” is trying to kill someone during the purge. This character represents a society in which they all believe that allowing all crime for one day is a good thing. This is scary because there is no hope for the family who just wants to survive because the idea of overthrowing an entire government is overwhelming. The lack of a government can also be a type of antagonist. Movies such as World War Z and Dawn of the Dead portray a world where there is no government and the antagonist is the whole zombie population. The main goal in these types of movies is either to cure the disease or just to survive. Another type of antagonist is a serial killer.
In the 1984 classic, Freddy was about psychologically attacking his victims. He liked to play off of his victim 's fears and when they went to sleep he would bring their fears into their nightmares resulting to their demise. But in the remake, Freddy would attack his victims physically and in their dreams, he would constantly remind them of how he died causing them to develop insomnia. Also making them have psychotic breakdowns and killing themselves. In both films, Freddy Kruger preyed on the children of the parents that killed him. The parents decided to kill him because they believed he was molesting their children while he was working as a gardener at their children school. The parent burned him alive. That storyline remained constant in both movies. His favorite target in both movies was Nancy. There were some changes to Nancy in the remake, they changed her last name from Thompson to Holbrook. In 1984 Nancy was played by Heather Langenkamp and in 2010, Nancy was played by Rooney Mara.
Jeffery Dahmer is one of the country’s most notorious serial killers. Very few people don’t know who is and for good reason. He confessed to murdering 15 to 17 young men and boys (Hickey, 2016, p. 157). His reign of terror started in 1978 when he was just 18 years old and just three weeks after graduation (Hickey, 2016, p. 156). One reason why Dahmer is so famous is because of the cannibalism of some of his victims. Unlike some serial killers, he did not blame common problems, such as his parents, society, or pornography for his crimes. It is hard to say what exactly leads to a person wanting to kill however, there seems to be certain circumstances in which most serial killers experience.
Throughout Dracula, humans are being attacked in their sleep by vampires. The vampires never attack while someone is awake. Dracula does communicate with people while they are asleep but he never attacks them then. This goes beyond vampires being awake at night and humans being asleep at night. Psychology was studying the unconscious during the time period Dracula was created. This research into the unconscious showed how thoughts and feelings that can be repressed while someone is awake can be drawn out while the same person is asleep. Stoker uses this knowledge to add real horrors, such as sleepwalking and sleep paralysis, into his novel. Although not everyone during the time believed in vampires, everyone had to sleep. Dracula not only makes
King argues the genre has an important role because while watching a horror movie people show their true emotions. King uses the words “daring the nightmare” to explain the experiences people put themselves through when they pay to be frightened (King 1). The truth is most of them go to see the most brutal way’s producers can come up with to harm someone. As the king of horror himself puts it, “It urges us to put away our more civilized and adult penchant for analysis and to become children again… We are told we may allow our emotions a free rein… or no rein at all” (King 2). It’s fun to let loose and feel crazy sometimes, feel no one is watching. Still, people are watching, so what keeps them from putting everyone into an asylum?
In every time period there is always a writers that dominates a certain genre. These individuals are masters in their fields and can evoke the deepest feeling in their readers. There are many of these writers in every generation for every genre. In the field of horror two writers should spring to everyone's mind. Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King. Both writers have made their marks in literature for exploring the darker sides of imagination producing writings that can leave readers shaken from freight. Although both authors are from different time periods they have similarities in writing that shows their skills.
Stroker writes “The strength of the handshake was so much akin to that which I had noticed in the driver”(Stroker 24). This quotes shows the grip strength of Dracula even at his old age, showing that he is immortal. This motif can be seen commonly in the sub genre of “slasher” movies where a “Crazed” type killer is upon the victims, and in these movies the killer is portrayed as invulnerable. This can be seen in John Carpenter’s Halloween where Lourie shoots Michael Myers in the face to no avail, as he just shrugs it off and continues his attack. This trait of invulnerability adds a great amount of terror surrounding the villain, as it gives the audience the impression of hopelessness. In conclusion the trait of invulnerability can be seen in both Dracula and in the slasher movie genre.
Serial killers are defined as those who commits take the lives of 3 people in over a period of a month. Most serial killers commit murder for some sort of psychological beneift. Serial killers vary in many ways, some serial killers have patterns, some have motives, some are organized and other are disorganized. Richard “The Ice Man” Leonard Kuklinski, Aileen Wuornos, and Charles Cullen are three specific serial killers who all had different motives for taking the lives of many innocent people.
In closing, The Princess Bride, Monsters VS Aliens, and Gulliver’s Travels is unsuitable for giants as it portrays them as Inhuman, Frightening, and easily taken advantage of. They are shown as inhuman in each movie in the way they are viewed. In the following films each supporting characters act like the giants are extraterrestrial when really they are just large humans. They are viewed as frightening individuals in the way they act throughout the movies. In all the films due to their size many people are frightened by them and their voices. This causes many to scream and run away leaving the giants feeling like evil people. Just like armed forces these giants are used to other characters advantage. In Monsters VS Aliens, and Gulliver’s Travels
In order to explain how a serial killer is different than a normal homicide is to first understand how a serial killer operates. On December 20, 1968, in the sleepy town of Benecia, California the murders of a teenage couple were discovered in an area called “lover’s lane” off Lake Herman Road. The victims, Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday, were shot while parked in their car around 11:10pm. Investigators collected shell casings and other evidence from the scene, but after several months they still did not have any witnesses or suspects. Then on July 4, 1969, a second young couple were attacked by a gunman while in their car parked at Blue Rock Springs Park in Vallejo; about 10 miles northwest of the Benecia murders. The female victim Darlene Ferrin died from her wounds, but Michael Mageau who was shot in the leg, neck and jaw survived and was able to tell the police what had occurred, along with a brief description of the gunman. Later, the gunman phoned the Vallejo Police Department
When the movie was over I really didn’t want to go home and sleep I was not sure Freddy wouldn’t be in my dreams that night, but was what a nine year old girl to think? We got home around ten o’clock that night and my father said shower and go to bed. My sister and her friends thought it would be so funny to scare me, so they got plastic knives out and put them in between their fingers and scratched them up and down the shower liner. I jumped high and screamed for my dad.
