The news report I selected was produced by Michael Pearson, who is not an expert on the Middle East. When I searched to find out more about Mr. Pearson I found out the fact that he was only a part time journalist for CNN and his main career is photography. Additionally most of the articles I discovered that Michael Pearson authored did not pertain to what is happening in the Middle East but was about the Ferguson case and a story about a Batman related shooting. This persuades me to believe that Mr. Pearson does not have all the facts in this area since he has no other articles dealing with the Middle East. The author of the article should not be trustworthy since Michael Pearson does not have a solid foundation for what is truly happening. …show more content…
This compels people to feel that Syria is an unsafe place to be along with the idea that individuals and children in the area are being attacked by the Syrian government. Later in the article Michael Pearson also used the words “terrorist groups” when talking about Iran’s involvement in the fight to defeat ISIS. The word terrorist is a bias term and is also used to make us fear Iran because we cannot trust anyone who could by any chance be a terrorist. By using these bias words to describe Iran it will cause us to have frightful feelings about the people in Iran and then we eventually become prejudice towards anyone in the Middle East because Americans judge by the color of ones’ skin without knowing exactly where they are from. The media strives to make the Middle East sound like awful people, which in return is influencing our attitude towards them. Bias articles are being posted every day for viewers to read and it is the authors of these news reports that should present the facts in an unbiased way. In order to change our opinions on the Middle East is to actually go there and experience for ourselves what they are genuinely like and then we can form our own opinions without our views being tainted by the
This article uses a sarcastic tone in order to appeal to pathos. I honestly really like how the author, Alexandra Petri, states her case. She is basically showing the hypocrisy that exist within the trump administrations ideas of what is important to protect and what is not. They respect object more than the lives of people. This article really does a good job of putting this issue into a visual perspective. Her perspective shows that if you are not on trumps side anything you do is wrong and you are seen as the enemy. I think the article is effective in that it really appeals to emotions of the audience. There isn’t a lot of statistical facts but there are a lot of straightforward examples of recent events that have been in media. Petri does
Matthew Fraser, a high school student at Bethel School, gave a speech to nominate another student for government office. The speech contained “elaborate, graphic, and explicit sexual metaphor,” in reference to the potential nominee for government office. These uncensored statements caused the students in the audience to yell and also make vulgar gestures. Fraser later confessed to using sexual insinuations in his speech and was then suspended from school and speaking at graduation. He later sued the school for violating his rights of free speech, even though there was a standing policy in place against inappropriate conduct such as this. The First Amendment was upheld because there had already been a previous policy set in place, by the school,
The article starts by trying to provoke fear at the reader. Using false numbers about how little our defense actually is and that keeping the homeland safe should be our main goal. It also mentions how scary the world is and how many enemies America has and how dangerous the middle east is. After all the propaganda the article moves to slam obama saying he has 487 billion dollars from the total spent on excessive weapons, training, and deployment into countries we never should have been in. The article finally ends on a lighter note sharing how America has had an effect throughout the world and without us countries would be left to suffer.
The author tries to persuade her readers of how important the wars in Syria is by using many great techniques. One being the photo of the young boy who was involved in the air strike and the other way by using intellectual sources from all over including journalists, reporters and many other credible sources to back up her argument. Gharib also uses pathos by posting the video of the child in the ambulance sitting there with blood and wounds all over his body, which for most people would trigger some emotions.
The article looks at all sides of the controversial bombing from a reliable source. It provides an in
The United States of America has always had an invested interest in the Middle East: from a religious perspective to a financial one. America has always ensured that it will have an official war narrative for becoming involved with the Middle East. As the United States evolved, so did the war narratives. Nowadays, technology allows most people to have access to information in little to no time. Unfortunately, we often forget that there are many influences on the war narrative. For example, this nation’s past, the public’s expectations, and personal bias are just a few influencers of America’s narrative. America’s current war narrative is still influenced by the public perspective of the Vietnam War. Vietnam was the first time what happened during a war could be broadcasted at home. This played a huge part in the growth of the public’s anti-war sentiment. Thus, control of what the American public saw was necessary. During the Gulf War, the government made sure to account for this new form of narrative, and this caution has affected the media’s portrayal of the Middle East.
Some explain how the Arab world fell behind the West in economic and social expansion, but the primary reason is due to the American intervention in the Middle East prior to 9/11. Throughout the Middle East, “America is perceived as a swaggering superpower that defends it interests (oil in the Persian Gulf) while ignoring its cultural impact” (Steinbrink and Cook 285). Widespread resentment against America results when the U.S. uses weapons against the Middle Eastern population in order to protect its own interests, while disregarding any possible effects that this may cause (Steinbrink and Cook 285). There are many different ways that the media can manipulate a story to make it pro-America and anti-Terrorist, thus it is very difficult to make sure whether the information being given is telling the actual story and not one that was manufactured to fit into propaganda of any
Humans are social creatures allowing our brain to attach feelings or ideas to inanimate objects. A study by psychologists Fritz Heider and Mary-Ann Simmel depicts a couple shapes moving about the screen, as humans we personify these shapes and give them feelings yet they are nothing but shapes. This essay is about me and how the colour green and it's personified attributes connect to me. Green is a colour often associated with the mind, like being inventive and analytical. This essay will cover how both those words apply to the very first two things typed onto this page.
This article is placed in The New York Times, a popular place for Americans to get their daily news. So this article is targeted at the American citizens who keep up with the current news and stay up to date on what is happening in their country. Ever since Donald trump has been elected president the people of America always want to know what he has done or said because he has a history or doing and saying some pretty rash things. On the contrary, this article has told people that he has not said anything pertaining to the situations in Syria. This is certainly an odd occurrence that our normally outspoken president would remain so silent on a topic that is so
In the book Perspectives On Deviance And Social Control, the authors discuss the types of approaches to study for deviance. It includes experimental research, field research, and content analysis. These types of approaches have been used to see what causes deviant behaviors so they can get a better understanding of it. The experimental research is a method that a researcher can manipulate and controlled the conditions of the experiment. According to Inderbitzin et al, (39) “In a true experimental design, subjects are randomly assigned to one of two or more condition that are thought to affect some outcome, usually a behavior.”
William Michael Morgan is a newcomer in the country music scene. At 20, he carries with him his traditional country twang and roots. With his latest single, I Met a Girl, you might want to know more about country music.
The press has presented Islam within a certain emotional frame, and it has made the violence in the Middle East seem like the main interaction between the West and Middle East.
Nevertheless, we actually do not have contact with the Middle East people and we may even never talk with them. It is too subjective to judge that the country and the people are dangerous. All these kind of inherent perceptions and misunderstandings lead to the miscommunication nowadays.
Utopia by Thomas More, and The Symposium by Plato are similar in that they both challenge pre-existing notions in society. The two stories prompt readers to reconsider certain aspects of life which one might have found to be quite one-sided. Thomas More introduces us to an island called Utopia which serves as a model of perfection in each facet of everyday life. In The Symposium, Plato and his friends contribute distinctive interpretations on the origin and meaning of love. Both author’s purpose in their writings was to confront ideas in which society has a rather common shared perception of.
Although the people’s voice is being heard and changes are being made, blood flows down the streets as people are being killed violently everyday. Many people believe it would have been more beneficial if the Middle East had completely avoid the Arab Spring or at least have gone a more passive road. Through the history of the region, leaders of Arab countries have anchored their position to later become rich and
