Throughout my high school career, a teacher that has had an impact on my life consists of Michael Sherwin. He is my Advanced Placement Government and Advanced Placement U.S. History teacher. Mr. Sherwin proves to be prominent in my high school career because his lectures in class are always enjoyable and very comprehensive. He is very knowledgeable on the subjects that he teaches and he is able to provide insight on countless topics. As his student, he is the reason that I have taken the initiative to partake in much more difficult classes throughout high school.
As a result, witnessing a person that knows a subject extensively has motivated me to become focused on pursuing my career as a family practitioner. During class discussions, one
Of the many classes that I chose to take, my two favorites were an English course and Health course. I may want to be a K-9 Officer, and these have few things in common with that career goal, but they were my favorite courses because of the professors who taught the course. Janice (Meredith) Privott for the English course, and Matthew Harpold for the Health course. These two teachers helped push me to better myself in almost every way. Mrs.Privott helped me on a personal level with stress and trauma; from her support she made me a much stronger person. Mr.Harpold helped me with my self-esteem, he took the time to help me when I needed it, even when I wasn’t in his class, just as Mrs.Privott did.
Mr. James C. Boyce was the best and furthermost influential teacher, I have ever had. He was my 6th grade teacher at Kawana Elementary School in Santa Rosa California. Mr. Boyce was the kind of teacher that would drive his students to absorb knowledge while making learning enjoyable and exciting. We could earn Kawana Bucks as a reward for doing extra school work in addition; these would be used for purchasing bizarre school supplies such as pencils and erasers with themes printed on them. Mr. Boyce had methods to engage his pupils accordingly they wanted to learn, even if it was through simple objects like a special eraser.
Wiest took the time to listen to my troubles and work with me outside of class. She even invited me to come drink tea in her office if I needed a break or was not feeling well. But more importantly, she helped me put everything into perspective and I made some tough decisions. I cut down on my work hours, took a few months off from orchestra, took less volunteer opportunities, and learned to prioritize my responsibilities. Mrs. Wiest also helped me with my work when I was falling behind and let me take her finals at different times to balance my work load. I panicked when everything got difficult, but she supported me. If any teacher has made an impact on me during my academic career, it was certainly Mrs. Wiest. She goes above and beyond for her students and wants everyone to succeed. With her help, I was able to succeed during a very rough
My teacher inspired me to go above and beyond my normal capabilities, and to reach out to others that were in distress. He inspired me to become a better leader, a better person, and a good role model for many kids in the classes below me. David Glasscock was his name, he is a generous man he invests in other to provide them with the tools necessary to be successful. Without his words of advice, I most likely wouldn´t be the same person that I am today.
During my life I have had several teachers with who I hold in high regard. Mr. Anthony Arico, Mr. Marty Berger, and Mrs. Edna Thomas to name a few. Even though all of the above named teachers had a very profound effect on my life; my all-time favorite teacher would be SSG Daniel Spencer retired. He was my ROTC instructor for approximately two years and has been a mentor throughout my adult life.
My high school art teacher, Jackie Tingle, inspired me to create and further my education in art. Through her constructive criticism and her wonderful teaching skills she easily allowed me to develop my own skills as an artist. In a world full of two-dimensional characters, I found it amazing that she was a successful artist. Before I met her, I did not know it was even remotely possible to have a career in art. To this day, I still have respect for her and how she carries herself. Even at times when students treated her disrespectfully she remained professional.
A high school teacher that has impacted my life is my 9th grade Geometry teacher, Mrs. Scully. Mrs. Scully has impacted my life from the very beginning. She has always been very caring and fun to be around. She is probably one of the most unique people in my life. She has always wanted me to do my best, and worked hard for me to understand the course. I was very troubled in mathematics, but the first time I received an 80 on a test in her class was the happiest moment for me. She is dedicated and she cares about you. She wants you to do good. I only had her for that year, but I still continue to see her. Sophomore and Junior year I would also use my tutoring time to be with her. I am now a senior class officer and she is our leader. She puts together senior activities and the officers help her. She influences me to be the very best person I can be. I see how she has these stylish cars and is overall happy with her life and committed to what she does. It’s inspiring and I can only wish to become as happy and successful as she is. She is a wonderful
My long-term career goal is to combine clinical practice with academia. While my teaching experience was limited to leading small group discussions as a cell biology teacher assistant at UMBC and tutoring Biochemistry and Physiology to fellow medical students, I found it intellectually challenging and rewarding to find engaging ways to help students make connections between the required clinical knowledge and an actual clinical
Over the years I have come in contact with many different types of teachers that have not only taught me, but also had a positive influence on me. Mrs. Amanda Graham has been my positive influence ever since my ninth grade year here at Mullins High School. She has inspired me in so many ways from reading, to writing, to public speaking.
In high school, I had the pleasure of taking three courses with a man who has become one of my favorite teachers of all time--Mr. Michael Rogers. Mr. Rogers a way of getting his students’ minds to race with ideas. His European History class during my senior year proved to be the most challenging yet intellectually stimulating class of my high school career.
Working with Mr.Burnsky in his U.S history class has been a great experience for me. Being his aid helped me discover that I want to major in education in college. His teaching style inspired me to become a teacher and show that I can make a impact to student. Some of the significant accomplishments were helping students to stay on track and to complete their assignments. This was good because as the quarter ended, some students needed a push to make it through. I observed Mr.Burnsky’s effective teaching style and saw how the students responded to him in a positive manner. I made most of my time in the classroom by organizing Mr.Burnsky’s papers and helping him make the classroom more creative. For example, when the students were learning about the Great
Replogle, most feared teacher in the entire school. This man made you carry a five gallon bucket to the bathroom as a hall pass. Did I have days where I complained about Mr. Replogle? Of course, but looking back he was one of the most passionate people I have ever met. Why do I remember his class? Because whenever he spoke about history and got ready to make a point that could apply to our lives based on historical events his passion just couldn’t be ignored. He was passionate about history and his students. He had a tough love approach which isn’t a bad thing for a freshman who thinks they will just float through high school like they did middle school. His class did much more than teach me about Mesopotamia, it taught me passion. I suddenly wanted to be passionate about something I got to do everyday of my life. All of the teachers at our school are so passionate about their students and their success you couldn’t ask for a better staff. I don’t think they
Ms. Hoskins is a lovely teacher and a lovely person. I can go to her for everything even though she was a new teacher. I love her and I know she loves me. She cares for everyone and really wants to see the best in everyone. She has influenced my by showing me that I can get through out the hard times. I can fix things on my own. She has taught me that confidence is key.
When I was just a junior in high school I was struggling in Algebra two and trigonometry. My teacher was out for months on maternity leave and I was having trouble learning the material without a decent instructor. I caught word of a man who taught at Saraland Middle School who was proclaimed to be an outstanding educator, Mr. Hester. I began to consult with him for math tutoring throughout the rest of the school year. During those sessions he would give me general advice on other school topics as well. Mr. Hester then got hired on to be the pre-calculus teacher for my senior year. My specific diploma only required me to go as high as Algebra two and trigonometry. However, he convinced me to take pre-calculus on the basis that he believed in me and promised that I could make an adequate grade in the course.
The teacher that stands out most in my head is my eleventh grade English teacher. She had a liberal arts background, and enjoyed the classic American writers; Hemingway, Steinbeck, what have you. She was in the class of teachers who was more impressed by actions and honesty
