The article on the tragic crash at Michigan speedway was truly shocking. It goes more into the aftershocks of the accident but does in fact touch on what happened during the astounding event. The article seemed to be created so it can shed some light on how the whole ordeal was handled. This is very important due to its relation with broadcasting to the people watching which is an important job. The article did a good job of showing a mistake that happened to all the sports fans and people wondering why the situation was ignored. There definitely was a heavy emphasis on how the situation was handled wrong. With that said, the continuation of the race was the real igniter to the anger behind the article. Rick Reilly (Author) has a very long
Mayor, Darrell Steinberg’s were also utilized, giving a perspective of how the community is processing. "Emotions are understandably high. People are anguished," he said. "I understand it and we understand it. I urge our community to remain peaceful." The article also lacked a clear side on the issue leaving to reader to absorb the information and gather an opinion, this
Deliberate distortion is never permissible.” It was obvious that many of the facts mentioned by major news organizations were false and lacked trustful sources. Some journalists did the same thing à la Nifong and did not even bothered to look over the clear evidence that was presented to them: cellphone records, Bissey’s affidavit, and Roberts’ statements about the events of the night, were just a few clues that proved the lacrosse team’s innocence. The Herald-Sun assumed facts that did not test the accuracy of information and careless to avoid “inadvertent error.” The New York Times also handpicked which information to present to the public, which made it incomplete and misleading. In order to make a valid point, The Herald-Sun and Times had to support their claims with sources and present the information in its entirety, not just a few pieces here and there, on the contrary, the media are not doing their job properly. Testing the “accuracy” from all the sources is imperative to not affect lives that are not supposed to be
There are many factors to consider before deciding whether or not, a tape showing the death of an umpire in a major league baseball game, should be broadcasted on a Canadian news program. News cast rooms are bombarded every day with stories happening in the local community and around the globe. There are a lot of unforeseen events and accidents that can happen in a day but what makes a story news-worthy? Having a prominent person involved or featuring a story that has a great significance to the public would certainly create a lot interests and attention. In this example however, if a viewer is not all too familiar with baseball, hearing the name “John McSherry” or the word, “umpire” may hold little or no value to them. Not to mention it might be a poor taste or disrespect for his family to show the film on prime time television. This is the type of news that time-restricted and easily distracted viewers wouldn’t pay attention to much as they would to news that carries political, economic, or social weight.
The story “Crash” by Jerry Spinelli is about a boy named John Coogan; and his journey as a middle-schooler. In this story we see John evolve. His relationships and beliefs changed throughout the story.
What do you get when you mix drugs, a man named Fuckhead, and drama? A Denis Johnson story. Drama is a prominent and key aspect that appears in all of Johnson’s work. Johnson’s work demonstrates various uses of multiple techniques and ideas that young writers can understand and apply to their own work.
Amidst all of the violence surrounding not only the United States, but also the whole world, I felt like the July 7th Dallas Shootings interested me. The attack took place on a Thursday evening during a Black Lives Matter Protest. The protest came shortly after the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, and occurred in many major cities that evening. After reviewing many different stories from both CNN and Fox News, I found one article hours after the attack occurred and one about one week later. This story definitely had a large amount of coverage online, in newspapers, and on television. The content of information was similar, but the article published one week after the killings had more accurate information since more become known
Chris Sacco uses human emotions to draw the reader into the article, by giving real life moments. One story can stick with someone for their whole life, but if they do not let it affected them, then it was just a story. However if they let is hit home, then it has a chance of changing their outlook on thing, such as how they handle guns or look at them. Chris uses multiple occasions to support his argument to show that in just seconds everything can change and he does that though detail. Chris mentions a story from NBC about a specific event when a family was “getting ready to order pizza when he heard a gun go off.” Here Chris is letting the readers mind wonder if someone was seriously injured, and he is pulling you into the
News covers the negative aspects of the riot – not the positive thigns that happened, before hand. We are led to believe that the riot are the only thing happening. “Cops are injured” vs. Dead man with broken spinal cord. “Gang
The Car Crash Study was done in 1974 by Loftus and Palmer that was aimed to test their theory that the language used in an eyewitness testimonies can alter the eyewitness’s memory of the event. They got 45 American students and showed them 7 films of traffic accidents, ranging from 5 to 30 seconds, in a random order. Afterwards the subjects were asked to describe what happened as if they were at the accident. They were then asked more specific questions such as, “About how fast were the cars going when they (smashed/ collided/ bumped/ hit/ contacted) each other?’. This was to see if the if the verb used in the question would affect the answers given by the subjects which it did. In the next part of the experiment they showed 150 students a one-minute film that showed a car driving through the country side followed by four seconds of a multiple traffic accident. Afterwards they split the students into three groups and asked them different questions. The first group was asked “How fast were the cars going when they hit each other?”, the second group was asked “How fast were the cars going when they smashed into each other?”, and the third group was kept as a control group and wasn’t asked anything. One week later they were asked, without seeing the film, ten questions about the film. One question asked “Did you see any broken glass? Yes or No?” which there was none. The results showed that more participants who were asked “How fast were the cars going when they smashed?” said
My current event article is on the Oklahoma State homecoming incident. This took place on Saturday October 24, 2015. This horrific event occurred during a homecoming parade, when The Oklahoma State Cowboys were about to face the Kansas Jayhawks in a friendly college football matchup. In the middle of the parade, a driver by the name Adacia Chambers (25) ran into a crow- full of people. There has been four confirmed deaths; one including a toddler. There have been over 50 reports of injuries and five of the people are in critical condition. The girl has been charged with DUI and is in jail. More charges could pile up on her if more witnesses come forward and if the police find out what her intent was, or if she just did the crime by accident.

The press only adds to the negativity, in one case, they only talked about the murdered, Crawford, and when they talked about the victims, they spoke about them as trash and worthless. This has helped changed my thinking about the media and press and how things are displayed. Everyone is important. The further I investigated this topic, the sooner this sadness turned into confusion, on why nothing is being done.
What was astonishing was not the rapidity of the news- that is, after all, the beauty of modern broadcasting technology- but the effect that the news had on the public. In the following weeks and months, story after story demonstrated the
Getting in a car accident is an unnerving thing. You never know what can happen and if your lucky you might see it coming. Well as often as these accidents occur, it happened to Spencer and I on one fateful summer evening.
Life is unpredictable and an accident can happen anytime. on our way back home from church my dad was driving a black 2012 Toyota Highlander, which is a family car that seven people can ride in it. My younger brother, Taw Nay Gay, and I were sitting on the seat behind the driver seat by the door. My other two younger brothers, Gay Nay Soe and Soe K Maw, sat in the seat behind me, and my mom sat in the front passenger seat. For the first time a nineteen year old girl like me started to believe that I had a reason to live and my life could be taken away anytime. This happened on October first 2017, 7:30 pm when we got into a car accident by the traffic lights intersection. Three cars were damaged, but everyone in the cars were fine.
