Even though grades should not a competition, I often think of them as one. I constantly strive to get the high score on a test or win the award for a class. In my mind, a little extra effort to be the best goes a long way. However, one cannot always be successful at everything. There have been times when I have not done well on a project or exam, and this frustrates me because I put so much effort into my schoolwork. I have learned to accept these failures, and I am very careful to not make the same mistakes next time. Developing self-discipline now will help me achieve my goals for the future, which is why this crucial life skill is so important to me. Most of the people I know do not directly acknowledge how much of a hard-worker I am, but this does not bother me. My self-discipline might go unnoticed to the rest of the world, but it will never go unnoticed by

My moms raised me with a strong set of morals, including “hard work pays off.” Sometimes this can be discouraging when you work hard, but it doesn’t pay off as you’d like it to. I’ve always gotten the grades I strive for without much struggle. However, once high school started, everything changed. I’d work for weeks on a scholarship essay, and I wouldn’t even place. I’d work for months to get something published and then read other people’s names in the congratulations announcement. I’d constantly wonder: Who’s at the top of the class? Who’s going to win the end of year awards? When you consistently get the grades that I do, people just expect those grades. No one congratulates you on your hard work anymore, and you don’t always get recognized. Despite the lack of recognition, I still take pride in my grades, and continue to work hard. Getting great grades is something I know I can do, even when it’s difficult to do. The difficulty makes it even more satisfying when I see the hard work pay off, and I get the grade I wanted. I’ve encountered
Pupils are expected to compete in order to achieve better grades than their fellow classmates.

Oh, when I hear the words, "college application essay,"I feel three things: anxiety, weary, and mostly stress. My three favorite words. As the fall arrived, the only thing lingering in my mind was the college application essay. I decided to peruse through many books and websites on "how to write the perfect college essay guide." It did not help. Although the various sources gave me advice, each draft I composed seemed more like a mechanical response rather than a genuine response to something that meant a lot to me. Applying to college can be a complicated, daunting, and a stressful procedure for any applicant. When the time comes for students to begin composing their college essay drafts, it is also an excellent moment to get on the educational
It dictates your actions and affects the choices you make. Because of the feeling of pride I get, I turned school into a competition for myself among my cousins. Having 3 cousins the same age as I am, I’ve grown accustomed to hearing how they have done in their regular, non-rigorous classes and the praise that is lavished upon them for said classes. Originally, it aggravated me knowing that I did better than them in an advanced version of their class and yet, they were the only ones ever to be talked about, but, by turning it into a competition in my head, I became ok with that because I realized that by challenging myself now it will build my skills for college and help make the transition easier and the workload more manageable. That’s why I chose to take AP Language & Composition, because it takes me from what I know I can achieve into what I should achieve and the pride you get when you accomplish
The classic tale of Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a story that never grows old. This play is commonly retold and remade by modern producers. In fact, many of William Shakespeare’s original stories are easily recognizable in modern movies or novels. While many may see the correlation of 10 Things I Hate About You and Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew without further evaluation, the similarities between The Lion King and Hamlet can easily be seen too after closer inspection (Evans). In The Lion King by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, the Shakespearean play of Hamlet can be recognized through the storyline of Simba and Scar. Because of similar characters, plots, and themes, it is evident that the Disney film The Lion King is heavily influenced
It came to the point where I thought to myself that I was not going to get my work done on time. So, I decided to change my mindset and think to myself that I can finish the task at hand and just think positive over all. Allowing me to conquer my fear of failure and learn from my mistake, developing a growth mindset.
Throughout my 17 years of life I have had many experiences. Some good and some bad, through all of this I have learned a lot as student and person. One experience I had was when I began high school. I began my freshman year not really caring about the amount of effort I should put in. When I was growing up, my parents didn’t enforce sitting down to do homework or projects or the study for quizzes and test. That put a damper on myself, as I lacked the ability and motivation to do those things without procrastination. After my freshman year I was disappointed in myself. I learned from this mistake and grew as a person to truly start to care about doing all the little things to be successful in school. Thereafter my sophomore year arrived and I improved. I did all the little things, maybe not 100% but I was a lot better than before. I got good grades and I was proud of myself. Even though didn’t perform at the top level I am capable of, I know I can
