I think the Middle School model is best for the young adolescent learner. The middle school model pays close attention to emotional and learning development. This is a transitional time period for adolescent as they are just leaving elementary school and entering a new world with more independence and responsibility than before. The middle school model allows students to transition out of elementary school while preparing for their next transition of high school. The middle school model allows for students to be divided into teams where they will get to know their teachers and peers pretty well. The teams include four teachers who work with 100 students. For the middle school model the strengths include the team system which allows a group of 100 students to have 4 content teachers. These students also have lunch together. It is a good way for students to transition from elementary and allows them to build peer relationships as well as relationships with their teachers. This model allows teachers to get to know their students and to collaborate with the other teachers on the team to plan instruction around the needs of the students. The shortcoming of this model is that students are mostly exposed to their team instead of other students in their grade. The strengths of the junior high school model is that is emphasizing independence which is something students are beginning to learn more as they transition to young adults. It also allows them to interact with many students throughout the day. However the shortcomings include that there is not as much support for the adolescent learner as there is in the middle school model. Students have different teachers throughout the day with mixed grades that does not get to take into account the uniqueness of each
If I was the principle of Metro High School I would use the four types of reinforcements to motivate the students to improve performance and attendance.* This change of policies would realisticly take place over long period of time with a good system of data collection and other types of control functions. It is also very important to have the parents of the children involve as much as possible.
Park Middle is located in Scotch Plains, New Jersey and is one of two middle schools within the town. On average there are 930 students enrolled at Park over the past three years (See Appendix A, Table A1). Additionally, Scotch Plains’ population consists of 77.4% White citizens, but is also composed of 11.1% of African Americans, 7.7% Asian, and 6.7% Hispanic citizens (see Appendix B, Table B1). Last year, at Kingsland High School’s Graduation Ceremony, Josie Hinze not only receiveed her High School Diploma, but also her Associates of Arts Degree before even attending any college or university. All employees of Kelsey Middle School and administration utilize all methods of communication accessible to them, telephone, e-mail, written mail, and face-to-face to ensure they can provide a safe and appropriate education for all students. These communications are with one another to make sure teachers and staff are on the same page when it comes to the students and achievements. Gulf Shores Middle School- On October, 22, 2015, the eighth grade students were taken, as a field trip, to Playhouse in the Park, to go and watch plays of Edgar Allan Poe poems for the mystery and suspense unit. The students were taken to see The Tell-Tale Heart, Ligeia, The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether, The Cask of Amontillado performed by the kind people at Playhouse at the Park. They did this because they’re in the mystery and suspense unit, and they have been reading Edgar Allan Poe works, such as The Tell-Tell Heart. After the plays the students were expected to create think and answer questions about what differences were in the plays, and the original pieces of writing.
It is a good idea to provide a separate school experience for middle school from the high school, because putting both middle school and high school in the same building will have a negative experience for middle school students in many aspects. Noticeably, the high school students and middle school students sharing the hallway is a bit destructive in some aspects of behaviors.
I am a student here at Oxford Middle school and I feel that it is important to inform you that our school should have a wider variety of electives. Oxford Middle school is a perfectly fine school, but many of the students seem to not be able to focus in class. My belief is that kids aren’t doing what they find as fun with the school day they have now. I think that our school should give more elective choices so that kids won't be as board in school.
When it changed to the middle school it also changed the way they were going to approach teaching this age group. Within this time period students are changing physically, intellectually, emotionally, and morally. Students are going through puberty, home situations, new challenges at school, a new “status quo” at school, and are trying to figure out what to do. This organization is the only national education association specifically committed to those in the middle level grades. Students in middle school work with more than one teacher. Middle school is transitioning students to be more prepared for High school. In Elementary school they don’t care how immature you are but, in Middle school they want you to act your age and more mature. You get to play games and have more fun in Elementary school. Middle school it's all about the learning and maturity level.
Students are often in a rush during the mornings and might forget to pack their lunches. Students have enough stress on their plates, with having to get to school on time, and have outfits picked out and make sure homework is completed. Even if some students opt to pack their lunch the night before, they still are in a rush in the mornings. With forgetting lunches, if being allowed to leave campus they would still be able to eat something, than school food, which is often bland and unappetizing. The child that I will be investigating is named Chris. He is 11 years old with jet black hair with the length around his shoulders. He has tanned skin and his height stands about 4 feet and 7 inches. He lives with both his parents and has one older brother, along with one more family with the size of 3 that resides in the same household. Many people endure three years of middle school and four years of high school. It is an eventful time for children between 11 to 18 years old. During the adolescent years there are hormonal changes, environmental changes and emotional developmental gains. Middle school is the beginning of transitioning towards independence under the constant eye of adults. During high school they are challenged with real-world challenges that help them transition into adulthood. The behaviors of these individuals change as the factors change around them. For every person, the experience of high school or middle school may be different. Either way, both have the same goal of wanting the student to succeed and evolve. Even so, the similarities and differences vary. Middle school and high school are alike in the areas of receiving an education, socializing with others, and having teachers while different in areas of maturity, difficulty in work, and independence.
