It has come to the attention of membership of The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Durham and Vicinity that your organization is actively seeking a replacement for State Representative Larry Hall who was recently appointed to the position of Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs by Governor Roy Cooper. Knowing the times in which we live and how very crucial the issues are, we firmly believe that the person to fill that position must be one with both the sensitivity and familiarity with the issues of the our day. It must be a person who has knowledge of the community and it’s needs. Therefore, it is without any hesitation or reservations that we offer our support to Mrs. Mary Ann Black for
One goal of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is to improve operations and deliver seamless and integrated support (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, 2014). According to the VA Strategic Plan for 2014-2020, one objective that supports this goal is to make the VA a place that great employees want to work. To make the VA a place where great employees want to work, the organization must be able to hire and recruit the best employees in order to change the culture. One way to better recruit the best employees is to decrease the lengthy hiring process currently in practice at the VA. Recruiting the best employees in term of fit and skill is vital to the Acute Psychiatry department, as well as other specialty areas, because the turnover
I have spent the greater part of my life dedicated to service. Therefore, upon leaving college I decided to do an AmeriCorps year of service and then decided to pursue my MSW at BU. However, with my MSW came financial burdens that I could not take on with my meager saving from my year of service, much which was used to relocate to the Boston area, and my Segal Award, which was not matched by the school. I have no outside financial resources an am support myself through working part-time. I will be unable to work as much due to the demands of advance year placement.
A problem that I see in my clinical area at the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) is appropriate direct care staffing on the inpatient psychiatric unit. The current staffing model being used by the VA is staffing methodology. The Staffing methodology model was created to account for acuity of patients, their illnesses, and the task that are required to be performed by nurses (U.S. Government Accountability Office, 2008). Staffing methodology has created an environment where there are either an abundance of staff which is resulting in wasting resources or too little staff which is creating risks for safety and poor patient outcomes. Current available staffing model have been created in mind for caring for medically ill patients (American Psychiatric

Everyone should keep the promise by hugging them, shake their hands, and most importantly say ‘Thank You’ because they had risked their lives for their families, friends and even the whole United States just to protect everyone.
The Department of Veterans Affairs’ mission statement is to fulfill President Lincoln's promise "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan" by serving and honoring the men and women who are America's veterans. It’s possible to distinguish higher levels of employment among female veterans than female non-veterans. In fact, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (2016) reports that around 34.2% of women
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Organization (VFW) is a nonprofit group founded in 1899 comprised of military service members and qualified veterans. Their mission is to serve the veterans, military, and community while nurturing camaraderie (VFW, n.d.). They aim to ensure that all veterans are appreciated for their service and are recognized for the sacrifice they have made for this great country. One of the most serious problems facing all veterans today is the lack of proper healthcare. Soldiers, sailors and airmen are leaving active duty without having proper healthcare to cover their physical or mental injuries. The department responsible for veteran’s healthcare is the Department of Veterans Affairs. (VA) According to The department of Veterans Affairs website, “The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a government-run military veteran benefit system with Cabinet-level status. It is responsible for administering programs of veterans’ benefits for veterans, their families, and survivors. The benefits provided include disability compensation, pension, education, home loans, life insurance, vocational rehabilitation, survivors’ benefits, medical benefits and burial benefits. It is administered by the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs.” The VA, who was formerly called the Veterans Administration, was established 21 July 1930, to consolidate and coordinate government activities affecting war veterans. The VA encompassed the functions of the former U.S. Veterans ' Bureau, the Bureau of Pensions of the Interior Department and the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. On 25 October 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed legislation creating a new federal Cabinet-level Department of Veterans Affairs to replace the Veterans Administration effective 15 March 1989 (V.A.)
Veterans’ assistance can be traced far back into history. The first type of assistance recorded was back in 1636 when the Pilgrims were at war with the Pequot Indians. During this time the Pilgrims passed a law providing money to those who had been disabled during the colony’s defense against Indians. Soon after this many other colonies decided to
I believe community involvement is essential in order to cultivate skills, increase awareness and educate people to have a fruitful venture in mind, body and spirit. The cultural diversity, partnerships with public, private and non-profit organizations have been instrumental to our success in this region. Despite the different ideologies and competing viewpoints, I hope to become an agent of

The U.S Department Veteran’s Affairs (VA) provides a wide range of benefits for our service members, veterans and their families. Some of these benefits include but are not limited to include compensation, disability, education, and home loans. Throughout this paper I will discuss these benefits and the eligibility required to receive them. Eligibility for most VA benefits is based on type of discharge received through the military which is normally all discharges under other than dishonorable conditions.
With this understanding, I will serve as a community leader and advocate for equity-centered issues that are relevant to the community. A vital step in this process is understanding the space we are in and what assets are offered. The geographical boundaries that we share should not divide or limit what we can achieve. Another necessary component is building relationships and forming coalitions to address community-wide concerns. Achieving this requires spending time conducting home visits, speaking at community events, and devoting time conversing and bonding with community stakeholders. Through a leadership of service, we can connect with families and unite with local institutions (places of worship, small businesses, community centers,
The reasons that I got into the field of public administration was the community needs and its’ lifeblood. Plus, I have this desire to constant improve the overall policies for the ideal of good government. Ever since I got into the graduate school for a Master of Public Administration at the San Diego State University. I came from a small town in the east and moved to one of major cities in the United States. Everything and everyone from there opened my eyes wide opened to the world and all of its’ opportunities. I felt and recognized that the opportunity for this fellowship will help me with my career-development into full-time with the local government. Let me share my career goal with you, which is to be a City Manager at one day. Or even to be higher and daring than my current goal. I wanted to make a difference like every public servant wants. Despite of that comment I felt that I know what the hardship is like and I am ready to face more of it. As deaf person, which already experienced struggles and constant breaking barriers. While breaking those barriers I found out two key thinking are proactive and strive. Both of them have enhanced my thinking. Just same necessity for the local government to be a good government by being proactive and strive opposed to reactive or survival. I believe that I am capable candidate with great potential to be one of LGMFs. Especially with plenty of room for me to grow within this fellowship.
