All military veterans make sacrifices, and fight courageously for our freedom. They protect our beloved county from disastrous peril. Veterans are one of the only reasons that we are safe, allowed to do what we want, and have free agency. They deserve to be honored and respected as amazing people who put aside everything for the country’s needs.

These facilities provide a broad spectrum of medical, surgical, and rehabilitative care. Then in 1973 the National Cemetery System (except Arlington National Cemetery) was transferred to the Veterans Administration from the department of the Army. The VA was charged with operating the Cemetery System this includes marking all the graves of veterans in national and state cemetery’s and administering the State Cemetery Grants Program. The Department of Veterans Affairs was established as a cabinet-level position on march 15 1989 under President Bush (senior), he addressed the creation of this new department saying, “ there is only one place for the veterans of America, in the cabinet room, at the table with the President of the United States of America.” (VA History)

Right now, Los Angeles National Cemetery is not accepting new burials. According to officials, they have virtually no room left. In special cases, burial there is possible. For instance, veterans may be able to share a gravesite with a family member already buried there. Additionally, burial spaces open up when a body is exhumed, although this is a rare event. For the most part, Los Angeles National Cemetery doesn’t accept new veteran burials.

The Arlington National cemetery is a final resting place for some of America's most famous war heroes and fallen soldiers. The cemetery conducts around 27-30 services a day and between 6-8 on Saturday. The grounds of the cemetery honor those who have served our nation by providing a sense of beauty and peace for our guests.

According to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (“History and development of the national cemetery administration”, 2015), the origin of National cemeteries began during the Civil War. Prior to the establishment of such places, fallen soldiers’ were often buried on battlefields, nearby campsites, or taken to the families chosen cemetery. However as the war progressed, the chaos and limited land titles led to quick and inadequate burials. My husband works for the cemetery department and I can't tell you how many flowers are tossed away after a funeral. Funeral arrangement flowers are extremely pricey and they look beautiful for a short time but then the family is left with burden of what to do with them all.
