Imagine if there was a waging war going on in our great nation. Destruction and demolition nearly everywhere. North Korea had just entered and assaulted the entire western coast of the United States. Would you have stood up and fought for America? Well today, many countries in the world force their citizens to go into military service. Iran, Greece, and Egypt to name a few. Today, I am here to convince you all that military service in the U.S. should be required for most citizens. Whether it be males or females, whites or blacks, heterosexuals or homosexuals, they all need to contribute in some form; either it be in combat or in domestic service. Mandatory enlistment means that almost everyone except for seniors and people with disabilities will have to serve. That includes all citizens, whether they are Donald Trump, Russell Wilson or ordinary people like us. We the people will be required to serve, when the nation is in need of extra soldiers or in the face of war. Everyone enjoys the same benefits of living in a country where people are risking their lives to protect us. If you and everyone you knew had to serve in the military, you would have a greater respect for the concerns of the nation. Then more folks especially the rich, can help improve the community. According to Charles Rangel, a U.S. congressmen, the volunteer military only contains around “3.3 million military households representing less than one percent of American families”, they have become a “virtual military class who are unfairly and disproportionately carrying the burden of wars” (Rangel). Since only a few Americans have served in the military, it is creates a massive unbalance of patriotism, which is similar to doing your homework for a bully. However, with required military service, it can unite the diverse population and display the necessary appreciation for those who have served. In our great prospering nation, nowadays there's a large amount of immature, spineless, arrogant people who need to be kicked in the freaking bum and grow the hell up. Why do we assume that young people today truly know what discipline, and sacrifice, and moral striving and overcoming challenges means in life? Well, from the findings of Williams, an American political writer, “three-quarters of high school students in America’s inner cities have dropped out of high school” because they sense that “a high school diploma serves them no purpose” (Williams). Making compulsory military service is necessary for demonstrating what it truly means to overcome obstacles, which greatly benefits the future generations of America.
