“War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength” (George Orwell). Numerous citizens in everyday life question what the perks and point of joining the military. There's more to joining than just signing up that many people are unaware of. When deciding to join the Armed Forces there are important aspects to contemplate.

For troubled teens military service might be the only option to get them back on the right path at an early age in life, but for other teens who correctly obey it is unnecessary unless they choose to serve. Teenagers have their whole life ahead of them and the transition between high school and college should not have to be affected because of the forcing of having to serve in the military. Not only that, but after leaving the military and only having a high school degree how are young adults supposed

When looking at the whole picture, and deciding the pro’s and con’s of the military draft I have one final are for you to look at. Currently our armed forces are voluntary and do not accurately represent the American population. With the ideal draft system in place, it will allow for individuals from all aspects of society to represent and provide their service to our country. Along with proper representation, the military cost would be lowered. Although the armed forces would have to pay individuals more and the additional cost of food, equipment, and other essential needs would go up the, the cost of recruiting, advertising and additional benefits to lure persons into the recruiting

The draft policy for World War II (WWII) provided a good example of a mandatory military service policy that helped build and integrate the military and civilian culture (Dalehite and Birskyte 3). This helped to bring the country together in unity due to the seriousness of the cause. People showed a greater sense of “esprit de corps” or morale and a greater sense of duty during this timeframe. The resulting effect that this had on the nation was strong and was further strengthen by the return of the servicemen and women home from the War. Their influence and the nation’s patriotic zeal imbued all with the will to sacrifice and serve their country in any capacity, thus motivated by the common good. This level of patriotism and service has not been seen again until the events of 9/11 brought the nation together.

We aren’t in any wars or anything where thousands and thousands of people are dying. We are fighting terrorism and even then our service men and women aren’t sustaining a high death rate. Firstly, serving should be an individual’s choice. Mandatory means that there is no choice or something is required. Mandatory drafting will only put unmotivated people in the military. This will make the United States forces unreliable and weak. Instead of being specifically in the military, each person should have the option to participate in a public service of their interest that does not involve war. Mandatory national service is a violation of freedom and is unconstitutional. The Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness (Dafurr).” There is no doubt that forcing service upon people is wrong when it comes to control of their life. The government has no right to force any citizen to serve against their will. Mandatory service violates the Thirteenth Amendment's prohibition on “involuntary servitude (Somin).”

Although Some citizens think it should be mandatory for them to serve one year in the military. While others think differently. It shouldn't be forced. When this comes about it should be the citizens decision.

Although mandatory military might seem like a good idea and may have some benefits it should not be put in effect. It would be a restriction of freedom to the people and American already has a system (the draft) that works just as well.

First of all, if service is forced for as long as up to 1 year, I do believe it should be paid. For people must have a way to survive and provide for themselves and their families. However, forced service defeats the purpose of calling it volunteer work and weakens the joys that true volunteers experience as they serve out of the goodness of their hearts. Do you like having your own thoughts, feelings, and choices? Everyone does but the forcing students of participating in the civilian service program for one year deprives high schoolers of that choice that they have. This is something that may affect others in the near future creating some form of resentment towards the American culture. Some people dispute that the idea of all-volunteer army is a wise to freedom and the democracy in the country. No one obliged to serve in the army, but everyone has their rights and his/her vision to serve in the army or abstain. Otherwise, people with volunteer army may claimed that volunteer army enhance the army force and improved it due to the volunteers entered the army with full volition, so they work hardly and ascends the army. Although we need people to help serve, they should give people the right to choose whether or not they want to fight. If they get kids that just turned 18, a lot of them wont be ready to face war. Some aren't even ready to face the responsibilities the world has for them, let alone have them fight for their lives. Once they send them out there with or without the proper training, more than half will most likely die due to the fact that they're just not ready mentally. For example, a guy has been spoiled his whole life

There are many teens in the world that do not want to serve in the military, so they should each have their own choice. Some teens are very lackadaisical and will not be diligent in serving our country. If a person does not want to give life or limb in the military, they will be reluctant to fight. If there are young people that are mandated to be in the military, they can create life and death situations with their apathetic attitude. All people in the military should want to fight for their country, not be made to fight. Many lives could be wasted, that could otherwise change the course history in the world in different ways (“Should Military Service be Mandatory?”).
