Some people think that if men and women goes into the military that they will die, and that's understandable. Although military service can be risky, it is for a good cause, and the benefits, and the stuff they will learn outweigh the risks. One example, men and women will learn methods of fighting/self defence. Teenagers, and/or young adults should regulate a two year military service plain because, they can learn a bunch of things that will help them in the real world, and by being in the military teenagers will be more obedient, and not getting involved with drugs, or the wrong type of people. One of the great things about regulating two years of service for The United States is a good thing, because men and women will learn methods of fighting and defending yourself. If you are selected for the draft people in the military will learn all this stuff. You will fight for and defend your home, your family, and everything that being an American stands for. For troubled teens military service might be the only option to get them back on the right path at an early age in life, but for other teens who correctly obey it is unnecessary unless they choose to serve. Currently our armed forces are voluntary and do not accurately represent the American population. With the ideal draft system in place, it will allow for individuals from all aspects of society to represent and provide their service to our country. The draft policy for World War II (WWII) provided a good example of a mandatory military service policy that helped build and integrate the military and civilian culture (Dalehite and Birskyte 3). This helped to bring the country together in unity due to the seriousness of the cause. People showed a greater sense of “esprit de corps” or morale and a greater sense of duty during this timeframe. The resulting effect that this had on the nation was strong and was further strengthen by the return of the servicemen and women home from the War. Their influence and the nation’s patriotic zeal imbued all with the will to sacrifice and serve their country in any capacity, thus motivated by the common good. This level of patriotism and service has not been seen again until the events of 9/11 brought the nation together.
We aren’t in any wars or anything where thousands and thousands of people are dying. We are fighting terrorism and even then our service men and women aren’t sustaining a high death rate. Firstly, serving should be an individual’s choice. Mandatory means that there is no choice or something is required. Mandatory drafting will only put unmotivated people in the military. This will make the United States forces unreliable and weak. Instead of being specifically in the military, each person should have the option to participate in a public service of their interest that does not involve war. Mandatory national service is a violation of freedom and is unconstitutional. The Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness (Dafurr).” There is no doubt that forcing service upon people is wrong when it comes to control of their life. The government has no right to force any citizen to serve against their will. Mandatory service violates the Thirteenth Amendment's prohibition on “involuntary servitude (Somin).”
Although Some citizens think it should be mandatory for them to serve one year in the military. While others think differently. It shouldn't be forced. When this comes about it should be the citizens decision.
Although mandatory military might seem like a good idea and may have some benefits it should not be put in effect. It would be a restriction of freedom to the people and American already has a system (the draft) that works just as well.
First of all, if service is forced for as long as up to 1 year, I do believe it should be paid. For people must have a way to survive and provide for themselves and their families. Do you like having your own thoughts, feelings, and choices? Everyone does but the forcing students of participating in the civilian service program for one year deprives high schoolers of that choice that they have. Although we need people to help serve, they should give people the right to choose whether or not they want to fight. If they get kids that just turned 18, a lot of them wont be ready to face war. Some aren't even ready to face the responsibilities the world has for them, let alone have them fight for their lives. Once they send them out there with or without the proper training, more than half will most likely die due to the fact that they're just not ready mentally. There are many teens in the world that do not want to serve in the military, so they should each have their own choice. Some teens are very lackadaisical and will not be diligent in serving our country. If a person does not want to give life or limb in the military, they will be reluctant to fight. If there are young people that are mandated to be in the military, they can create life and death situations with their apathetic attitude. All people in the military should want to fight for their country, not be made to fight.
