THE TRUTH ABOUT MILK From the time you were born until now, no matter what age you are, you were brought up believing milk was good for you. It provided calcium, prevented osteoporosis, and even aided weight loss. Each doctor’s appointment I had as a child, I can remember my doctor asking me, “Have you had your glass of milk today?” Then my eyes would light up with pride and I’d say, ”Oh why sure I did doctor!” That was my answer up until I realized to become a pediatrician you needed exactly three hours of training in nutrition. Pasteurized farm milk is bad for you. Consider this: we are the only animal on the planet that continues to drink milk after that first transitioning phase when our mother’s feed us. If that’s not …show more content…

Article: A glass of milk contains some alarming ingredients including hormones, pus and antibiotics. Even if your milk is raw, unpasteurized and organic, with less contamination and processing than regular store-bought milk, it still contains hormones — whether synthetic or natural — intended to boost a calves’ growth. And that can wreak havoc on your body.
For many years now humans have been deceived that cow’s milk will provide many health benefits.
Unlike what we have been thought, milk is unhealthy and it will cause many different diseases in human’s body. Even though that they try to limit the bacteria in raw milk before and after milking, but they just can lower the level of bacteria, they can’t remove all of it, and by drinking milk we transfer diseases to our body (Garedew et al, 2012, p 950). Before milking they will sterilize cow’s breast and also they will inject antibiotics to lower the level of bacteria in cow’s body. They also use sterilize milking equipment so the bacteria available on the equipment will not reach cow’s breast and directly milk. With all those sterilized processes they still need to do the pasteurization process because of
Parents are concerned about the milk being pasteurized and its harmful effect on their children since most of the nutrient in the milk is destroyed during the process of pasteurization. Soy milk has gained an image as a healthy alternative milk, if now being transformed, parents will consider the soy milk like a high-risk milk. Drinking milk is nature’s most perfect food. Our children need great source of milk in order for them to be strong and healthy women and men tomorrow. In today’s world, there is a major wake-up call for anyone who use pasteurized or processed food. These kind of food weaken our body and our health. Imagine our little ones being fed with them, it
The more milk kids drink, the more nutrients they get, says Mrs. Dobbins from the midwest dairy council the more nutrients you get the stronger you will be. That can only lead to good things. Another example is, if chocolate milk doesn't hurt kids and they like it, why take it away? Many people say to take chocolate milk away from schools but why, many think that just because its “chocolate” milk its bad, but its not. “Some people say chocolate milk is bad, but it has the exact same things as white milk except a little sugar,” this was stated by Mrs. Dobbins from the midwest dairy council, and even though there's added sugars most kids are active and they can burn it off. Those examples explain why kids drink more if its
It is on the myplate as a needed food item which is endorsed by the U.S. government. (“Choose MyPlate”) Milk is promoted because calcium can reduce the risk of getting osteoporosis. The truth is that calcium from milk is barely absorbed in the bones. The amount of people with osteoporosis in the U.S. rose from 10 million in 2002 to 12 million in 2010 and is expected to be more than 14 million by 2020. (“Facts and Statistics”) In a report done on whether three servings of milk a day was an evidence based recommendation it provides evidence against milk being good and nutritious. This report was done by two medical doctors who each had Phds from the Harvard School of Public Health. They explained how the milk everyday was promoted because of the sugar content in milk that got kids to drink it. They also explained how humans have no nutritional requirement from milk and countries that do not consume milk have a much lower bone fracture rate than countries that do consume milk. They also provide results from a meta-analysis that showed that milk consumption had no benefit for bone protection in adults. A meta-analysis is a combined report of multiple scientific studies. (Ludwig) Green vegetables such as kale provide just as much calcium as milk and this calcium is better absorbed by bones. Three cups of kale provide the same amount of calcium as one cup of cow's milk without the added fat and cholesterol adding in vitamin a and e. Oranges have about the same amount of calcium as kale and oranges have vitamin c which helps the immune system. Given that three cups is a lot one cup of soy milk has the same amount of calcium as cow's milk and only one ounce of sesame seeds have the same amount of calcium as a cup of milk. That is just one spoonful of seeds that also gives iron and omega-3 fatty acids which are both nutritional requirements. cow's milk is clearly very
"Milk consumptions has plummeted from 25 to 20 gallons per year of chocolate milk since 199" I think chocolate milk should be banned from schools because flavored milk can give kid diseases. Also to much sugar leads to obesity. Most importantly if kids are served white milk they will drink it. All this connects to adults
Looking at what the popular information says, it is easy to see why people would want to drink milk. According to the article Is Milk Bad For You by Megan Ware, milk contains calcium which is attributed to building and maintaining strong bones and teeth and choline which helps with sleep, muscle movement, learning, and memory. Milk also contains potassium, high intakes of potassium are associated with a 20% reduced risk of stroke, heart disease, and high blood temperature; milk also contains fortified Vitamin D, important for growth, formation and development of bones (Ware). Milk also contains trace amounts of many important minerals such as magnesium or phosphorus (Ware). All of these minerals, vitamins, and nutrients seem great, right? It is a shame that all of the great qualities about milk get completely damaged during pasteurization.
Milk comes in many basic forms cheese, yogurt, butter, and ice cream. Milk has other uncommon forms as well whey, buttermilk, and kefir. To make all of these a culture is added to the milk, a culture is when a number of beneficial bacteria that are introduced to the milk to make different products. Not all bacteria are harmful to the human body, the human body depends on a wide range of micro biota to sustain a healthy gut, when the balance of healthy bacterium and harmful bacterium are off is when an individual gets sick. While America has been consuming milk for hundreds of years, the same practices that America once did are not practiced today. Common knowledge today is not the same as common knowledge a hundred years ago, at lot has changed medically and scientifically. For that reason, many Americans are missing nutrients needed to sustain a healthy gut, but this can change. The American people need to seek out information about the benefits of raw milk. A healthy gut needs the bacterium and enzymes that are killed in the pasteurization process.
Not all people can drink milk. In early Egypt, milk was only for rich and wealthy (Molland 1). This was because not everyone could afford to pay for milk, or trade for milk because they are poor or unwealthy which means you have any money to waste. Also today a lot more people can drink milk but there are those people who can’t drink milk because they are lactose intolerant. Also, “around two-thirds of humans
Did you know some people take baths in milk to look young? It is true. Milk is a complex, liquid food that helps young mammals grow. Babies need milk from their mothers to grow big and strong. Some people think that people should not drink milk from cows. Drinking milk is healthy for humans because milk builds strong bones and helps people lose weight.
Dairy is a very key part of getting key nutrients. Some nutrients include calcium and vitamin D. Milk, cheese, yogurt are just some examples of some dairy products (“All about the Dairy"). But something people need to know is skim milk does provide all the key nutrients in whole milk does. People think whole milk is better because they think in skim milk they take out key nutrients but that is all wrong. Whole milk does have vitamins but is high in fat. Skim milk on the other hand has no fat and all the same vitamins so it’s always better than whole milk(“Nutrients and Health Benefits"). A challenge I might face is my grandparents are set to not buying skim milk because they say it doesn’t taste good no matter what I tell them.Anyways you want to drink at least 3 cups of milk if you're aged 9-18 (“All about the Dairy"). You want to get all the protein if you only drink one cup it’s not enough vitamins. I don’t need to change my eating habits because I drink one cup of milk for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Milk is one of the most popular beverages consumed in the United States, however it has been publicized that it may not be healthy for all humans to consume. There are several components that make drinking milk a healthy option because of the calcium and vitamins it provides to the consumer. Milk strengthens bones and provides factors that help the growth of children. Some of those components are being considered harmful to the diet of consumers. Obesity, cancer, and lactose intolerance of the body all play a role with the consumption of milk.
When you visit a grocery store, you will come across a variety of milk products. These include: soy, coconut, almond, cashew, and dairy. That being the case, it can be extremely difficult to decide which product is the best for your body and your overall well-being. Some may argue that consumption of dairy is detrimental to your health, while opponents state diary is a necessary staple in our diets.
Milk, including flavored, is the number-one food source of three of the four nutrients the Dietary Guidelines for Americans say both adults and children need to consume more of —– vitamin D, calcium and potassium.
