Clearing Away Our Bias: The story of Minik The story of Minik is a form of cultural anthropology that how shows the cultural differences and how a person taken out of their element learns the aspects of cultural relativism and its effects on their life. In 1897 Minik journey from his homeland from Greenland to New York as a young boy along with his father (Qisuk) and several others by Robert Peary an explorer. This particular study of ethnography revealed truths and inconsistencies of a person journey to one culture to another, although the living situation seems better. It also shows how the holism theory of the separation of Minik from his land, which applies to his mental state, language, and environment adaptability to other civilization or ways of life. Although Minik father (Qisuk) was told by Peary that the expedition was to see other parts of the world and view how others lived by Peary, it was far from the truth. They were there only to be examined and studied as part of Peary’s underlined motives of exploitation. This story also shows how even from that particular time how cultural anthropology affects not only the subject but also its entirety research that causes facts and fiction of holism to be questioned. Minik was the adopted by, Chief Curator and Superintendent William Wallace, which later proved to have faked Minik’s father burial for later to be placed in a museum. After which Minik went to school and learned to speak English and developed ways to communicate to others in his new found land.
