To develop learners minimum core skills in the classroom I encourage learners by asking them to read particular hand-outs out loud, they also demonstrated both language and literacy skills. It is important to be able to communicate with my learners on numeracy and provide support where required. I gave my learners work to do with numbers and convert time to their own country’s time to practice their numeracy skills. The use of ICT encourages learners to think outside of the classroom, it is an engaging way of introducing new content and also an excellent means of stimulating discussion. For example during my teaching practice, as I have mentioned before, I have several learners for whom English was not their first language. A learner with reading difficulties would also require individual learning support. It is important to manage the initial assessment plan effectively to obtain information to ensure that the learners experience is fully supported throughout the course. When planning lessons I think about the level of my learners and their individual learning needs. For example teaching and learning activities planned for Entry level one, the learner would have to differ from activities planned for Entry level three learners. I plan activities that all learners will be able to complete; still some learners may need extra support if for example English is not their first language. For learners with specific needs it is important to consider the learning passage for them when planning lessons and activities, for example a learner who has writing difficulties cannot handle too much written information. I also need to focus on designing tough extensions activities for the more capable learners and allocate for more opportunities for them to research information for themselves and where possible engage the learners in producing resources.
