Being an American citizen is not something you can say that you just are. In addition, you have to fulfill your duties as an American citizen. For instance, jury duty, voting and following the laws are all considering American duties. Before watching the documentary “30 Days: Immigration” I thought Minute Men would never change their mind about illegal immigration. Considering this, minute men do not work for the government. They are only volunteering to protect the border and stop undocumented immigrations from entering the United States. Minute men can only report suspicious activity to border patrol, they cannot apprehend illegal immigrants. In my judgment, I believe Minute Man can change their point of view based on illegal immigration.
Why do people associate wealth with good leadership abilities? That is the main question that was lingering in my mind while I was read “The Minutemen and their World,” book by Robert Gross. The book is about a town called Concord (which is in Massachusetts). The books tells about how the city of Concord was before the Revolutionary war, during the Revolutionary war and after the revolutionary war. In this book, it shows how leaders come about and how they impact their society around them. After reading this book, it made me think about how wealthy people are always seen as leaders? Becoming wealthy in American can be a daunting task to complete. It requires a variety of different skills to make a profitable business. But does creating a lucrative business for personal gain, merits you to being a leader over the masses of common people? We currently have this exact situation playing out before our eyes with GOP candidate Donald Trump. Donald Trump doesn’t have any previous experience in political affairs, but he is currently leading
In the United States of America (U.S), illegal immigrants have been oppressed by the government. The reason why they come to the U.S is for a better life, so they can live “ The American Dream.” However, illegal immigrants struggle to live a better life due to the fact that they have a lot of disadvantages such as finding medical help, jobs, and plenty of other resources that someone who’s not citizen aren’t able to have. The U.S is known as a country that gives people human rights no matter the situation they are living in which is clearly stated in The Constitution, however, for illegal immigrants, it is the opposite due to the fact that they live in fear. Some examples would have to be taken advantage by people, and oppressed by certain races/ groups. Therefore, the U.S Citizenships and Immigration services (USCIS) should give green cards to illegal immigrants who have not been convicted of a crime because they will no longer live in fear, be able to find better jobs to support their families financially, and will have opportunities of going to college.
The book The Minutemen and Their World was written by Robert A. Gross, and took place during the late 1700’s in the small town Concord, Massachusetts and the people who inhabited it. He wrote about Concord’s government and how it changed over the years and the struggles the town’s people go through. Robert Gross wrote this book like a story but it is clear how much research went in to the book itself just by looking in the Notes section in the back of the book. This book demonstrates how the town of Concord coped with the Revolutionary War, he concentrated on the lives of the townspeople and the farmers, and Concord’s main political problems. In the book, Robert Gross dusts over some of the main problems the town of Concord had. They had issues staying united. The farmers and city slickers didn’t agree on political topics, such
More than 11 million undocumented illegal immigrants fill the US. Over the past hundreds years immigrants have been coming into the United States, this process has continued. And some may disagree and believe in that immigrants should not have a path to citizenship. It is immigrants should have a path to citizenship. Undocumented immigrants should get a path to citizenship
Robert A. Gross the author of “The Minutemen and their World” gives a very detailed nonfictional narrative of the small town of Concord, Massauchessets. Gross describes the American Revelotion through the eyes of this community which paints a more vivid picture of the events taking place up to the war which seperated the Unite States for Great Britian through a perspective that I have never seen before.
During the 1970’s, Mexican Americans were involved in a large social movement called the "Chicano movement." Corresponding with the great development of the black civil rights movement, Mexican Americans began to take part in a series of different social protests in which they demanded equal rights for themselves. Composed mainly of Mexican American students and youth, these activists focused on maintaining a pride for their culture as well as their ethnicity to fuel their political campaign. Left out of this campaign initially though were Mexican immigrants.
The Movement from Mexico to the USA was a great change for a child. There were many new things there that would make a nine year olds mind confused, but people get over it. The recklessness inside the mind of the child didn’t let them think of a new thing as exciting.
There are many vulnerable populations within the United States. One of the many vulnerable populations are undocumented immigrants. Undocumented immigrants also known as illegal immigrants according to Wikipedia (2016) is defined as “the migration of people across national boarders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country” (para 1). The United States of America has one of the largest population of immigrants. In this paper, I will be discussing the multiple stressors related to undocumented immigrants as well as the programs that can be used to help alleviate those stressors.
At present, the U.S. immigration system is burdened both by policy and implementation challenges. It is barely able to meet the commitments required by law and policy and is ill-prepared to address new challenges and mandates. Agreement that the system is broken may be the only point of consensus among many diverse stakeholders. The Task Force believes that immigration laws and policies are broken in four ways:
Americans believe that illegal immigrants are freeloaders they come to the United States to use our Social Services. Let’s define Social Services, “organized welfare efforts carried on under professional auspices by trained personnel (dictionary.com, 2011, para.1).” Examples of Social Services are Housing which is Government subsidized and public housing, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Food Stamps/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid and Medicare, and Social Security Payments for the elderly, disabled, qualifying children of the deceased, etc. Illegal immigrants do not qualify for these social services, because they do not have a social security number. Illegal immigrants contribute to the economy of
As depicted in John Steinbeck's novel Grapes of Wrath the 1930's was a time when migrant workers like the story's Joad family had to leave their homes, cross a perilous desert, live through the social injustices of the time, and work at jobs with low insufficient pay just to have a better life (Steinbeck). Seventy years later, the situations and experiences stay the same but the people are no longer native-born Americans but illegal immigrants who sacrifice everything to come to the United States to live a better life, as a result of that the 500,000 immigrants that illegally enter the United States through the Mexican border annually and stay in the country are the Joads of today (Aizenman).
For many years, people from all over the world have come to the United States seeking a better life for themselves, their spouse, their children and even their children's children. However, not every immigrant comes into this country legally and many of these illegal immigrants are poor, uneducated and may be carrying contagious diseases. They may arrive here via human trafficking, smuggling or other methods. There is one thing we know for sure that many of them choose to remain silence when they become victims. The three main reasons they become invisible victims are they are not aware they are victimized, they don't know the right way to ask for help and they are afraid to be fired or even deported.
Illegal immigration has caused a lot of controversy within the United States. The media has influenced our society to make us believe that illegal immigrants are horrible people. One thing that I have learned throughout life is, “Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains (Rousseau 4).” This sums up how society dictates our lives and limits us to what the media wants to us to believe. Whether it is legal or illegal, everybody should be treated equally. Illegal immigrants might always end up with the short end of the stick, but they heavily support the US economy. They contribute by paying taxes every year. In addition, they adopt difficult low wage jobs that are not of interest to the average American.
I am not the ‘Ilegal’ you think I am, and Immigration is not what you think it is” Why do people cross the line illegally? there are many reasons for undocumented immigrants to cross the united states do with the poverty in the country, high level of education in the united states, and the better opportunity of jobs. Many immigrants decide to emigrate from their country of birth to seek a new opportunity for all the family, but analyze the information is not only one culture a lot of different cultures immigrant to have a better life in the united states. Undocumented immigration is a big issue in the united states because many immigrants come to live the “American Dream”. Immigrants from all around the different country come to a better economic opportunity, good education, and escape from their reality.
To conclude, both stakeholders want to bring awareness to illegal immigration. On the one hand, FFF seeks to guarantee a legal status to parents of U.S. citizens in order to stop the separation of families because of deportation. Whereas the Minuteman Project advocates for the deportation of unauthorized people in the U.S., regardless if they have family members who have a legal status. This topic is important because America is a country made up of immigrants. In fact, according to the Migration Policy Institute, “U.S. immigrants and their U.S.-born children now number approximately 80 million persons, or one-quarter of the overall U.S. population” (Zoe and Batalova). Immigration is a key component for the U.S.’s social and economic development.
