Misconceptions of Media Violence Essay

The sense of what is right and wrong comes from within and is not influenced by what is showed on television, or any other source of media for that matter. Advertising a product such as a George Forman grill is one thing... I myself have fallen for countless ads and sales pitches, but to use the media as a scapegoat for drug addiction, rape, and even murder is unfair and quite ridiculous. One might be influenced to buy a cologne, or a grill, but to be influenced to kill someone because of a violent show or song is non-sense. We have learned that if you live by the gun, you shall die by it. It is how you take the information in and not just by jumping the bridge your friend jumped. I have read that Hitler and Napoleon both enjoyed classical music, a sort of opposite of what rap is reputed as, and I believe they butchered people all the same. Hitler played classical music while he dictated hateful ideas to his secretary that was later to become his first book, "Mein
Kampf." Classical music could not be blamed for what they did, and the same should go for any other genre of music. Can rap and its predecessor rock be blamed for what they did?

Violent movies and T.V. shows have been a contraversial topic for a long time. My two cents about them have probably been said over and over again, but often ignored as unjustified. It is of course a free country and protesters cannot stop a violent movie to come out because of the constitution, but they argue that someone has to draw the line. Violence in programs are said to lead to violence in real life. Is someone stupid enough tocause violence simply because they saw it on television? If so, are they fit to live amongst us and not in mental institutions? We are not monkies that are only capable of mimicking each other and what we see.
