Bullying has always played a negative role in schools, it damages students and prevents them from obtaining self confidence and motivation to achieve more without having someone to abusively criticize. This issue has spread rapidly across the schools of america, there’s many kids that are currently going through this stage in school. In fact, each day 160,000 students miss school for fear of being bullied. Missing school because of bully abuse just shows how traumatized this issue has left them, worst thing is that the excuse for missing school is almost always made up, because they even fear to let people know that they are being bullied. There’s different kinds of abuse in schools, mentally, verbally or physically. The earliest stages of
Bullying has a negative impact on everyone including the bully and the school. For instance, if there’s bullying on a campus and the school does not take action then it reflects back on the school and makes them look bad. “Schools are increasingly sued for failing to provide a safe learning environment and are being held liable for the harassment, violence and suicides caused by bullying,” (Bullying and Statistic information). As for the victim, it affects them mentally and physically, it causes them to change their habits and their personality. They can not defend themselves because they are too scared, low self-esteem, or is just too afraid to tell an adult (Stop Bullying.gov). The bullies are affected because the more damage they do to the victim the more trouble they cause for themselves. Bullying also affects the families of the victim and suspect. For the victim’s family there’s a lot of lies and betrayal. Now for someone to bully it could be because of their family. How a child acts is because of their parents. A student does not choose to bully, they act out on their emotions which causes them to think less and act
According to the article, Meet the New Sheriff by Suzanne McCabe, “One out of every five students are bullied or are bullies themselves.” This one piece of ground-breaking evidence is enough to destroy our society, and our children’s lives forever. Bullying is a highly discussed topic that American children face every day and it’s near impossible to stop. There are also topics within bullying, like how students become bullies, or how to stop bullying, also which is worse being a bystander or being a bully. And you can’t deny that bullies are almost like mad serial killers, they go around and they don’t stop even if they get into trouble. There are so many topics on bullying that you can’t even count them all. “Everyone has been bullied for
Bullying has been an issue for children in schools for years. Australia did a study showing that one in four children are bullied while in school. It has shown that children that have suffered being bullied have also suffered poor mental health compared to other children. Another research was shown that children that were bullied over time were actually suffering in long term as mentally unfit. Many researchers have conducted that most parents are not even aware that their child is being bullied at school. The main reasoning behind this problem is because parents are not in the schools everyday like the teacher is watching every move they make. Most of the responses of this issue have to come from the teachers or the child. Most children do not even
Schools are the most well-known settings for bullying. This is the place where students learn and socialize for most of the day. A school is a place meant to feel safe, not afraid. However, studies have shown us this is not the case. More and more students are reluctant to come to school. Why? Their peers may criticize them and abuse of them both verbally and physically. Bullying is more serious than most think. Many people just think it’s a simple hoax that was taken too far but this simple joke can lead to indelible emotional and physical scar that could hunt students for life eventually lowering their self-esteems and even ruining their lives. Schools and teachers have failed tremendously at stopping this.
Bullying is a very serious and present issue in today’s society. Those who are “bullied can experience negative physical, school, and mental health issues” (“Effects of”). These children are also “more likely to miss, skip, or drop out of school” (“Effects of”). Annually, there are about “5.4 million students skip school” due to being bullied (“The Effects”). Victims
Bullying can get in the way of children getting education because of the children being scared to go to school. They are scared to go to school because they don’t want to get bullied, and bullying is becoming a major
Bullying has been escalating to a certain degree that it has affected as many as 160,000 students that reported staying home from school every day, because they were afraid of being bullied (www.stompoutbullying.org). Bullying does not only stops one from wanting to go to school, it also makes one feel anxious, insecure, and unhappy at school, isolated and at times severely depressed (Young, Shin Kim, and Leventhal). Schools must have better resources available to students; this includes the victim and the bully. The victim should have both better counseling and stricter laws to protect them. Bullies also need counseling due to research which states “that many bullies tend to come from families where parents are more
Bullying is defined as “verbal, physical, or psychological abuse or teasing accompanied by real or perceived imbalance of power” and is usually targets what children perceive as different (Olweus, 1993). Bullying is prevalent across the nation. It has devastating effects on students each day. Bullying is a problem for all students, regardless of race, gender or class. The National Education Association reports that 160,000 children are absent intentionally from school each day because they fear being bullied whether it is an attack or just intimidation by other students. This accounts for 15% of all school absenteeism (Hunter, 2012). Dan Olweus (1993) from the National School Safety Center tells us that bullying includes three parts: (1)
Many people do not realize how serious bullying has become. If you look at statistics suicides due to bullying have increased over just a few short years. This has become a very big problem for not only the victim but the bully as well as it affect both of them. School bullying is mentally destructive to not only the victims, but bullies because of the harmful words, harassment, and physical violence involved as well as the consequences for the bully.
The first problem with students who get bullied is that not every school takes it seriously and does not take much action. According to Graham there are 30-80% of students are victims of bullies (136). There are some teachers in schools that do not take bullying that seriously because teachers believe that it’s just kids being kids because that’s what they do. When a student is a victim of a bully and they bring it to a teacher’s attention they are normally told to just let it go and don’t let it bother them because they bully is just playing around that it’s not a big deal. The teacher’s also think that the bully doesn’t mean what they say or do. Meyer-Adams states that bullying is not as overt as weapons offenses and fatal shootings, bullying occurs with greater frequency and may have more profound and lasting effects on students (211). This is a problem because it makes students feel like being bullied isn’t a priority to teachers so there for students try to take it into their own hands and end up getting in trouble once they do. Jenkins states, Among middle school students, bullying behavior was significantly correlated with impairments in three areas of executive functioning:
One of the most undeniable reasons why schools should protect the safety of students is bullying. Bullying is everywhere in this country and the students are victimized daily by this type of behavior. The act of bullying comes in many forms. Physical violence, poking, kicking, pushing is a form of direct bullying. Verbal bullying, name calling, and teasing is another form of indirect bullying. Basically, excluding a person from a peer group (Scarpaci,2006; Reid, Monsen,& Rivers,2004). Children between the ages of 9-15 are most often bullied. Research by Cohen (2015) states, since the early 1990s there have been more fatal school shootings due to this type of harassment. Prevention of this type of behavior educators as well as parents are working together to identity the characteristics of bullies and victims to stop this violence.
Many kids are being bullied and aren’t getting the help the need for the people are enabling the bullying aren’t being punished for their actions. Bullying can lead people to pretty tough situations they can’t get out of or pushing them to take someone’s life away or their own life.
What if you were terrified to go to your school every day? 160,000 students miss school each day because they get bullied and are scared of what will happen (“Bullying Statistics”). Bullying has been a major problem in schools for far too long. Students should not be scared to go to a place that is supposed to be safe and where they can express themselves. Students that bully never get the punishment they deserve, which causes them to continue to act. When you go to school, you should know that if you are getting treated in a horrific way, the people who were treating you that way will get punished. Students who bully should be suspended from school.
At the anti bullying event I learned that bullying is “an imbalance of power” meaning that one person has the upper hand and they can take advantage of the control they have to use it in malicious ways. I also learned about the different types of bullying such as verbal, social, and physical. Bullying is found in school but it can follow students outside of it like on buses, neighborhoods and even the internet. It was also stated that bullying can have results that last forever on both the children that bully and the bullied. Since bullying has such a big impact there should be steps towards preventing it in schools.
Bullying is an experience that most students go through but should not have ever been establishing. Many people know that being bullied leads to suicidal attempts. For a child going to school expecting to learn but being bullied is not an easy ride.I can remember back to when I first started going to school which was kindergarten that is when I loved to go to school to learn and play.As being a shy and quiet child but I would always pay attention in class but I am the child that would never raise their hand or read out loud. I was the child who could sit in the front of the class and be very quiet you would never even know of my existence.
