I my eyes the term “choke” implies that they failed, not due to lack of preparation but because of the mental or physical way you psyched yourself out. The video displays a running race, which shows the last few moments before it ends. Based on the video you automatically know that it is a race where the stakes are high. The announcer states that it is a battle for the World Junior Title, which is also displayed at the bottom of the screen. While you observe the race you can most definitely see that they are both giving it their best effort. As shown in the video you saw, the runner in red hit the other racer in the green. It most definitely was not the sportsmanship thing to do but there was so much more going on there mentally for the
In the first three minutes of the YouTube video, the Mythbusters conduct an experiment to observe a person’s driving ability while using a cell phone and while driving drunk. To do so, the experimenters come up with the hypothesis, “driving using a cell phone is just as dangerous as drunk driving.” There are two independent variables. One variable is the cell phone, and the other is the alcohol. On the other hand, the dependent variable is the instructor who is giving the driving test. They test this hypothesis using three experimental conditions. First, to get acquainted with the course, each of the two people drive cell phone free and sober. The next experimental condition consists of Jamie, one of the experimenters, distracting each driver with a phone
On a Wednesday evening at 9:05pm in Minnesota, an African American couple was driving in their car with a four-year-old daughter in the back seat. After being pulled aside by Joronimo Yanez, a police officer, for a broken tail light, Philando Castile, the driver, stopped his car. Officer Yanez asked Castile for his license and registration. Castile handed the officer his car license and registration, but also told him he has a weapon in his car, for which he was licensed to carry. Officer Yanez immediate words were “Don’t move!” As Castile put his hands up where the officer could clearly see them, officer Yanez shot him repeatedly four times in the arm to the horror of Castile, his girlfriend, and their four-year-old daughter. Completely stupefied by the event, Castile’s girlfriend, Reynolds, took out her phone and began streaming an online video directly to Facebook showing the immediate aftermath of the incident. In the video, Reynolds narrates the accident’s story and exclaimed, “You shot four bullets into him, sir. He was just getting his license and registration, sir. Please don’t tell me he’s dead.” While recording, her four-years-old asked “Mammy, I’m scarred!” Reynolds answered, “It’s okay, I’m right here with you.” Officer Yanez returned and ordered Reynolds on her knees out of the car. Still being recorded, the other officers on the scene asked officer Yanez of his mindset, checking if he’s ok, completing ignoring the true victim, Castile. Castile was left bleeding
Chris Peterson is racing in the biggest and the frist race of the year as his frist cup stock car race. The cup level is the highest level of stock car racing competition. THis race was oe the best races of all time because everyone was racing ont eh edge of chaos for the race. Chris though everyone was racing like idiots because it look like they are going to crash for the race. On the last laps of the race everyone is so close it look like anyone will crash and burn or win. SO everyone is racing really hard and it looks like someone will crash. that is why it wasn't surprising to anyone that there was a big major wreck on the last lap. Chris Peterson cut right in front of another car and that cause that car to spin hit another car. That
Strategic staffing is important for any company. CanGo has several projects already started, with new ones being developed; a good staffing strategy is going to be a key element for the near future. The staff that CanGo has is unproductive, the staff they need is non-existent. The ASRS systems are a good idea, it would free up staff for other areas, but it would also take staff away from already important projects.
After watching the video Precious Knowledge, the first example of ethnic studies being threatened/ facing elimination is that senate is passing bills like 2881 that act against diversity and programs that support and culture beyond what is sought to be “fit” in the American educational system. Programs that promote ethnic studies gives students the pride and knowledge of where they have come from and therefore they feel more engaged in the classroom. Leaders like Tom Horne have the right to their own opinion but are being oppressive by not embracing the culture of different ethnic groups. By not attending these classes and trying to relate to these diverse communities; he is creating a dystopia to the American youth. Political leaders should
Both Kevin and Tony were participating in sprint car race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York. During the race, driver Kevin's car hit the wall and spun out. Without any notice from race officials, Kevin came out of his car and started to walk on the track. While Kevin was walking, Tony was finishing his half-mile course. Tony did not see Kevin gesturing and while passing him tony's rear tire struck at Kevin. Tony gave his condolences to Kevin's family and didn't participate in his race the next day.
Removed is a short video about foster care which I thought they used an excellent way to show us the audience about children in foster care by using an emotional appeal(Pathos). Its about a Little girl and her little brother that have abusive irresponsible parents. The little girl is not happy with the way she is raised and she defines herself as unheard, unwanted, and unseen. This can mean lots of things depending on each persons understanding, but to it means she is basically not wanted by her parents because they show no attention and there is no one she can go to share her feelings and nobody to help. She is soon seen that she is not living a health life and, she is taken away from her parents to a better family. However, before being adopted
A start and a finish line, hundreds of competitors lined up with faces of determination ready to compete in what they have been training hard for. Runners warming up, stretching, drinking water, and finishing routines with their coaches and teammates; anxiously waiting for the loud signal of the gun shot to begin the race. Once the shot has been fired you see the competitors sprint as fast their legs can go, to try to get a spot up front. Through out the race you see the rival schools go head to head speeding up inch by inch trying to get ahead. The sweat dripping from foreheads to chins, tired faces, heavy breathing, and pained looks are characteristics the competitors obtain midway through the race, which always seems to catch the crowd’s
What I think about "The Art of Failure" article by Malcolm Gladwell and his concept of choking and panicking are totally true. He describes the words choking as a word where your in a situation of trouble and do something to get out and panicking where your in a situation of trouble and not do anything at all and panic. I have been in several spots where I have had to use these two words. I would say though that I am more of a choker and get over my troubles instead of a panickier accept for one time.
Yes, I know what you mean my children do the same thing as well. They are always talking about why do I have to do it and they don’t and after that they always end up saying that’s not fair. Children are very vigilant they notice everything and how everyone is treated differently. The video that professor Mundle posted was very beneficial not only is it good for the teacher to use but as well as the parents. After watching the video, I can explain to my children and future class about fairness I do feel it will be beneficial and the home or class will run
Right out of the blocks, near the very start of the race, one of the runners was badly knocked down, and in a quarter-mile race at such a high level of competition, fractions of a second determine the winner. Anyone knocked down is quite simply out of the race. But accidents like this are sometimes unavoidable in the crowded running of the competitors. Even though he was far behind, this competitor leaped back to the track and continued to race with all-out speed and effort. The fact that he was twenty yards away from the nearest competitor and made the attempt to rejoin the short race seemed ridiculous. Nonetheless, this man ran at such an astonishing pace that the spectators were goggle-eyed and on their feet, mesmerized by the unfolding
When I look down, all I observe is the color red on a rugged surface. Thin white lines separate me from my competition. I glance to my left. I glance to my right. I notice the various colored shirts alongside me. They all crave the finish line. I grasp the famous red and blue baton in my hands. No one knows my name or my story, the only article they identify is the number pinned on my Mahwah Jersey. We all restlessly stand in position while hundreds of people fill the stadium. The gun is raised, I look up to the sky and pray for wings on my feet, which is the same wish I have for every race. The gunshot sounds through the air and in a blink of an eye it’s over. It's not when you finish or what towns you beat, it's about, the experience you share with those three other girls waiting on you and the baton.
1.) What is one definition of culture from the sheet "What is Culture?" and what was an illustration/example of this definition that you found in the video?
Throughout his presentation, Hans Rosling shows that the rich and wealthy release the most carbon emissions, but they are often the ones telling Africa or another developing country they shouldn't begin using fossil fuels and other technology because it's hurting the environment. Rosling claims that the rich end look down at the "poor" people and say, "You cannot live like us, you will destroy the planet." Technology, however, is key to progressing out of poverty and developing. As shown in his graphs, the wealthy release the most emissions, but shake their finger at developing countries that are starting to use technology and/or burn fossil fuels. An example used in the video is Africa and the coal available to them to provide warmth and light.
“Let’s Go to the Videotape” is a short story by Fiona Maazel that is about how a single father named Nick struggles to raise his son, Gus. Maazel's fiction and non-fiction have appeared in many publications, including Harper's, The New York Times Book Review, and The New York Times. Maazel is considered very talented in humanizing her characters and their reactions in difficult family situations, such as “Woke Up Lonely”, which is about a cult leader, his ex-wife, and the four government employees he takes hostage. The author admits in numerous interviews that some of the reasons why she wrote her stories was for social commentary, entertainment, or just for expressing that sometimes the most pain from life come from a family (since she was brought up in a difficult family). For example, her story called “Last Chance” tells the story of Lucy Clark, a drug addict with a
