Martin Luther King Jr. Being a hero requires an individual to possess bravery, kindness, and selflessness. These characteristics are noble qualities people admire. Heros achieve incredible tasks that other people cannot imagine. Hero is a word that describes someone who is determined, strong, and courageous, and this word can also be used to describe Martin Luther King Jr. Education, Family, and Church, were all extremely important to King, and his family. King was born in Atlanta on January 15, 1929. King spent his early life at his family home, on Auburn Avenue. His family attended Ebenezer Baptist Church. On December 1, 1955 when Rosa Parks refused to provide her bus seat to a white passenger when asked to. King hesitated at first to get involved. After Rosa Parks was arrested, King and others in the community proposed a bus boycott in protest. King was asked to be the head of the Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA). The MIA was formed to run the bus boycott. In April 1960 the group members formed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). The Southern Christian Leadership Conference was formed to support student protest, because four black students staged a sit-in at a segregated lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina. By 1960 King gained national notoriety. On August 28, 1963 more than 200,000 people marched in the shadow of the Lincoln Memorial. It was that day when King changed the world with his famous I Have a Dream speech. He declared, “‘I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character’” (Biography.com). King received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, and on March 9, 1965 2,800 marchers--black and white followed in Martin Luther King Jr.’s
