Mobile phones are devices which are used worldwide mostly to ease communication. Business persons use it to ease their transactions among others. According to Senthil & Sakthi(2015)published in Journal of Internet Banking & Commerce 'the 3G telephone enables users to access data; listen to music; play games; send and receive simple text messages (SMS); access multimedia messaging services, voice, and video, as well as internet access through wireless application protocol (WAP) '. This is why young people in particular are the most attracted to the advantages of the mobile phones. On the other hand they are the most affected in the case of its disadvantages. During the manufacturing of mobile phones toxins like arsenic, lithium, cadmium, copper, lead, mercury and zinc are associated that is why when these mobiles are discarded these toxic substances may burst out of the phone batteries in the landfills, seeps into ground water and contaminate the soil. Senthil and Sakthi(2015) also state that when the soil is contaminated it builds up metal and when it is concentrated may cause health problems .Experts in World Health Organization have also stated that mobile phones can cause harm in the brain like brain tumor and cancer, dizziness and radiations emitted from the phone are harmful to the eardrum. Attention is a key function in one’s ability to learn and remember. It can help one filter out certain stimuli, so that they can focus on one thing, or just a few things at a time. This filtering is crucial to human evolution and survival, but the following studies show that the way that human attention functions can also have negative consequences for learning and memory. Implementing lessons learned from studies on attention could help humankind understand how to use their mental resources to help them learn, and to relieve some of the consequences of attention.
The use of cellphones in school has brought up debates all over the world. While some believe they are an advantage, others believe that they are a hindrance to the learning process. Despite the fact that smartphones can be used for important school activity such as research and time- management, they are also one of the main sources of classroom distractions. As a current student, I can attest to the fact that students often play games or text friends instead of listening to what is being taught. Students often argue that they need their phones to listen to music because it helps them focus. This has been vigorously studied and the results vary, but are not fully supportive. Not only have students made arguments as why they should be allowed to use their phones in school, but parents have as well. Most parents are in support of the having phones in school because they want to always have a way to contact their child. One thing parents do not realize is the ways their children are misusing their phone. Teachers should not have to fight the distraction caused by cell phones in the classroom. The use of smartphones in school causes too many distraction and there is a multitude of ways this privilege can be misused.
