By Rico Doran In a society where almost everyone over the age of thirteen carries a mobile phone, many school systems have banned or want to ban these items from school grounds. Why? The one says it is due to the ‘potential problems’, such as texting during class and the use of social media. Others say it is because they interrupt the learning environment. Whatever the reason is the school gives us, should mobile phones be banned in schools? In daily life almost everyone now is reliable of their mobile phones. It is the wonderful technology for communication, especially for high school students, age 12 to 18. They use mobile phones during the whole day, at home, on the bike and also in class. It seems that these kids precisely during …show more content…
A second counter argument is the amount of facilities the school has if you look at the IT sector. The most schools do not have enough IT facilities to provide every student from a laptop, computer or tablet at the same time. If you have a laptop or such you may can take this with you, if you are not provided from a computer or tablet, you can use your mobile phone very handy to look things up on the internet, typing documents and reading books and articles. Mobile phones, they might seem to be nothing else but a distractive and disruptive device for all the schools, they are in fact quite the opposite. Banning cell phones from school premises will only ever have detrimental effects. Student will always keep taking their cell phone to school. As long as there is a sensible rule in place, such as ‘students are required to leave cell phones off and out of sight during school hours’, there is no chance of distractions or disruptive. After all, there’s probably more chance that a student will fall from his bike and break something that the chance that a mobile phone being a distraction when it is turned off, isn’t
It is a well known fact; using cell phones in school takes away from learning time. I do not think that cell phones should be allowed. Cell phones are fine for outside the classroom, but inside, you’re supposed to be learning. Even though some students think they can use them for good, it can quickly turn into bad. Cell phones cause students to do bad on their work, enables cheating, and can be distracting.
The author goes on to say that most people, including the students are accustomed to using their cellphones frequently, and it has several negative effects on their education, additionally it has a destructive influence on their health, so it makes the life, sleeping, and working very difficult, and also complicated.
Cell phones are distracting in school and disrupt learning. Students should always be giving their teacher their undivided attention. Cell phones in school create problems and they affect students’ grades. Although some may claim these reasons to be true, they are undeniably wrong. The proponents of cell phones should not be allowed in school argue, “We know for a fact that the use of cell phones on school property around the country has led to a number of problems around safety.” This is wrong because cell phone use on school grounds is only beneficial to individuals on and off school property. Cell phones do not necessarily prevent problems, but they do help in times of emergencies. They promote safety in situations such as school shootings or hostage situations. The proponents of cell phones should not be allowed in school also argue “Student’s whose minds wander during a lecture or discussion may find the temptation of texting instead of listening hard to resist.” While this is true, it is up to the student to pay attention. However, texting instead of listening is the same as doodling and not listening, or playing on a school issued laptop even after being told to put it away. It is up to the student to restrain from texting in class. The more schools put an emphasis on no phones in school the more
In each school there are absurd rules; ours by far has the most. Ok I get it, the staff is trying to us learn with a cleaner environment, but they have to be able to understand that phones CAN help you learn! Phones give us opportunities to hold many useful things such as calculators, passwords, and our schedules. I can see that they would want to take it away because it is “distracting”, but I honestly think that it is more distracting not having it then actually having it, now all we can think about is checking our phones. Although much of the public debate is against it, there are pros associated with allowing cell phones in school. These advantages should not be ignored since cellphones in schools can actually add value to the
Tap Tap, Tap. Students are constantly using cellphones in class when they should be paying attention to important materials in class. Some schools have banned cell phones. Some schools are taking advantage of cell phones and trying to them to open new possibilities for new learning experience. A cell phone is a piece of technology that can have a positive and negative effect. For example you can use it find out what you need to study. It depends on the user. Cell phones can also be used to cheat and then you wouldn’t be learning anything, except how to cheat. Do you really think that we should allow these with children that don’t know how to use them correctly? I wouldn’t. Although cell phones can open new opportunities to learning, we can not assume that students will use them for academic reasons. Therefore, cell phones are not the best thing to have in school, they shouldn't be allowed in school to ensure a good environment for the future generations of mankind. The negative effects from cell phones can distract kids from the subject they are learning in school, reduce the amount of respect students show teachers, and make schools less empathetic. The only thing that schools will get from allowing cellphones in class is nothing but trouble.
Are you always on your phone? Either Snapchatting, on Instagram, scrolling through your twitter feed? It can be pretty temping to pick up your phone and do this stuff in class but you can use them in good ways in school. George Washington Middle School currently has cell phones banned in class. Although most teachers think that cell phones are a distraction, cell phones should be allowed in class because students feel anxious without their phones, there are many educational uses, and allowing phones is more convenient.
Thirdly, cell phones are just another item, and banning them makes them more irresistible to people, especially teenagers. "As a student, I understand that cell phones are distracting while a teacher is trying to help the students--but at the same time, I believe they become even more distracting to the class as a WHOLE when teachers make a huge deal out of trying to take a phone away or punish a student for having a phone out."(Answer.yahoo.com-2009)Cell phones could be one of the 5 distractions-talking, playing, throwing, devices, and physical actions. With cell phones you're making less distraction to the class because you’re not disturbing anyone but yourself and that’s a good
These are just a few of the reasons cell phones should not be banned in schools. Indeed, there are downfalls to a cell phones, but they're also good and very useful during school. Like for example in case of emergency, parent wants to check up on their kid, helpful with school work, and lastly electronics are more fun for kids including their own device. If you can't use you cell phone in your school talk to your principal or teachers and state why they should change their mind and maybe you'll change their
should allow them. The main concern for the schools is that cell phones can distract students from learning and that they can be utilized to cheat on exams, with both of the these reasons leading to some schools banning cell phones entirely. However, because of the educational benefits of cell phones, they should not be banned, and the reasons are because students can use them to contact their parents, they have a lot of applications that are designed solely for schools, teachers already do enough to restrict cell phone use, and they encourage responsible use of technology.
Overall, cellphones should be allowed in school for academic use because teenagers use them daily. It would work to the advantage of both the students and the teachers to incorporate cell phones with school work. Education will only continue to evolve as the years go on, and it is essential that technology is incorporated along with
I firmly believe in banning cellphones in schools because of how much distraction they cause. I believe that people will be driven to join my side because source 5 explains how sometimes, “ some students use their cellphones for bullying and insulting each other, which can cause students to commit suicide.” Now, if anyone wants to do something about the cell phone distractions you can give a speech at school or write a petition to the office recommending that cell phones be
People in many schools regularly sneak around on their cell phones, trying to hide them from
Many places in society are setting policies on digital device. The principal at my school has also set policies on banning cell phones in school. Students should not be permitted to use cell phones in school. Using cell phones during school allows students to cheat. Students will be more distracted by cell phones and pay less attention to the teacher and to the lesson. Students have a higher chance of getting in trouble if they use cell phones in school rather than if they are not allowed to use digital devices in school.
Smartphones have become a part of everyone’s body. Almost everything can be done through smart phones. Paying bills, doing grocery, buying food, and more time consuming tasks can all be done almost instantly by smartphones. Many jobs and institutions today do not allow the use of smartphones during a certain time, especially schools. Prohibition of cell phones in school is a good idea to prevent students from getting distracted. However, high school students should be allowed to access their cell phones at school, because high school students are mature enough to use their cell phones productively and beneficially. Having access to internet is very important to high school students. Many students could not afford to have all kinds of devices, such as laptop, tablets, and cell phones. Entirely banning the usage of cell phones can make students hate the school causing them to be more arrogant.
Firstly, through implementing some campus rules and some technological means, the negative impresses of using mobile phones will be eliminated properly. Why people think that mobile phones should be banned in school? The reasons are that using mobile in
