Chapter 1 A young woman appears out of nowhere and quickly catches up to another who's dashing along a moonlit lane. "Are we late?" She asks as she falls into step besides the older woman. "No not yet, but we need to hurry, we don't have much time." "Follow me," the older woman replies, and her dark cloak billows about casting shadows on the high stone walls that border the lane. They walked side by side in silence for a long ways and then through a set of huge iron gates swung opened before them and onto a narrow driveway. A manor house grew out of the darkness at the end of the straight drive, lights glinting in the windows. Gravel crackled beneath their feet as speeding toward the front door, which swung inward at their approach, though …show more content…
If you'd rather have diamonds you can have that too; there in the third room with a shipping crate filled with them. The Cyclops that sits besides the crate will not bother you and can take as much as you wish." "That doesn't sound bad!" I said. "But what am I to do for you, old witch? I can't help thinking that you must want something too." "No," replied the witch. "I don't want one single coin. Just bring me the old tinderbox it's in the fourth room. My that my great aunt hid there long ago." Take this she said and handed me a satchel and load it up. And put this around your neck for protection and she wrapped a green enchanted amulet around my neck. Don't let that worry you this will protect you. Chapter 4 I slid through the mirror and found that I was in the long glass corridor lit up a Blue Light with hundreds cobwebbed chandeliers. I opened the first door. Oh! There sat a dwarf with blue eyes as big as golf ball size eyes glaring at me. "You are a handsome fellow!" I saw a chest in the middle of the room. The dwarf saw me and sat down next to the small box. I open the box filled the satchel with silver coins, closed the chest, and put the dwarf jumped back on top of
1. Pheoby's moral code is differs from the towns, because Pheoby is best friends with Janie, Pheoby doesn't see Janie as Mrs. Joe Starks like the rest of the town. As Janie is walking through town, the ladies on Pheoby's porch make snide comments about Janie's, “blue overhalls” (2), and questions, “ Where she [leave] dat young lad of a boy she went off her with” (2). While Pheoby decides to ignore their comments, and check on Janie. I believe Pheoby's code is 'truly moral' because, she doesn't judge Janie and her choices like the rest of the town.
I choose prompt 6. The three chapters of this book are arguably the climax of this book because Alfie went to the hospital and learned that this hospital is used for people with shell shock. The next day, Alfie was shining the shoes of the prime minister and, while not being seen overheard his conversation between him and his mother. He heard that his mom knows that his dad is in the hospital and would not tell him. After knowing this Alfie decided to bring his dad back home. Before doing this he had to let someone know about his plan, so he told his dad's old friend Joe. Joe is a conscious objector who went to jail got beaten up and still refused to fight in the war. He did this because his old man was a violent one and Joe swore to never
I believe that at the end of chapter 1 in the book we are meant to feel that Cole is a very mean person. Also that he thinks he is better than everyone and he is superior, the evidence to show this is on page 4 when it states “Still standing on the dock in front of everyone, Cole smirked as he undressed.” This piece of evidence shows that cole thinks he is better than the people because he is smirking as he undresses in front of them. Another piece of evidence to show that cole thinks he is better than everyone is on page 5 and it says “Nothing could be farther from the truth. To cole this was another big game.” This clearly is showing that cole thinks he is better than everyone he takes everything as a game he doesn’t really realize what is
1) “They carried the soldier’s greatest fear, which was the fear of blushing. Men killed, and died, because they were embarrassed not to. It was what had brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positive, no dreams of glory or honor, just to avoid the blush of dishonor. They died so as not to die of embarrassment” (O’Brien 20).
1. A large amount of construction and building work was going on in the city. Unfortunately for the people, construction meant delays, but all for a good end result. “Construction delays elsewhere on the grounds were especially frustrating” (pg 167) Chicago is booming with new buildings and constructions sights everywhere. This quote shows the work of construction that is all over the city.
Madelyn Ravy Mrs. Schmidt Pre-AP English 10, Period 3 9 February 2015 Reading Log #3 Part 1 Stephenie Meyer, The Host, page 448 “He wrapped both arms around me, as if we were embracing rather than locked in a killing struggle. Then he grabbed my waist from both sides and heaved with all his strength against my hold. His hair started to come out in my hands, but he just grunted and pulled harder. I could hear the streaming water rushing close by, right below me, it seemed. The steam billowed up in a thick cloud, and for a minute, I couldn’t see anything but Kyle’s face, twisted with rage into something beast-
Day by day Toby and Elizabeth went through doing their assigned jobs, eating meals, and going to bed according to schedule every single day for the past year. At first, it wasn’t that hard for them to do because, everyone else was just doing their jobs and continuing the schedule so, all they had to do was keep quiet and obey what they were told. Unfortunately after a while, it became very difficult for them to act like robots never having emotions being expressed it was almost like they were stuck inside their minds day after day keeping everything to themselves as if they weren't humans at all.
3. If I was in Charlie's position at the beginning of the story I wouldn't have went through with the surgery, because if God didn't want me to be like that, I wouldn't be like that. So I would stay the same. And It could also fail, just like what's happening to Charlie in the story. It would be kind of hard to reject the operation because you are this person that can’t really do anything, all you can do is sweep up an old bakery for minimum wage. It would be pretty boring doing that every day of your life. It would be even harder if someone was retarded and then they did a surgery that made them even worse. That's probably not something I would think about if I was mentally retarded, but that's what I'm thinking about right now.
It was the year of 2032, the year of the wolves. Every sixteen years is the year of the wolf, where every human fears that they will be next to become one of them. It is said that when the time comes around, half of the year is spent to where the fourth and fifth pack go out out into the civilizations and come back with new recruits. They are ruthless and cruel creatures, they are feared by all living things, for since their numbers have increased.

41. “Our dilemma is that we see happiness only in the future” 42. “Harmony and happiness are powerful weapons against the war” 43. “Happiness is the feeling of being alive” 44. “Every new day is achance to discover a happier you” 45.
There are multiple details that stood out as particularly true to life in my view. One was the nariartator that it is telling the story/ his view point main character mentions what check out aisle number. It mentions how the three girls looked. The character payed attention to how the girl that seem to be the leader was walking saying “she came down a little hard on her heels, as if she didn’t walk in her bare feet much” this quote helps you picture how the person and might help picture what the girl was walking like. He gave details to where he was and what he was doing when the three girls was doing. He mentions that “I’m in the third check-out slot with my back to the door so that I didn’t see them until they had reach the bread” this helps the reader to set up an mental image of the store as they are reading.
1-5. there was a great cry of the people. . . against their brethren--Such a crisis in the condition of the Jews in Jerusalem--fatigued with hard labor and harassed by the machinations of restless enemies, the majority of them poor, and the bright visions which hope had painted of pure happiness on their return to the land of their fathers being unrealized--must have been very trying to their faith and patience. But, in addition to these vexatious oppressions, many began to sink under a new and more grievous evil. The poor made loud complaints against the rich for taking advantage of their necessities, and grinding them by usurious exactions. Many of them had, in consequence of these oppressions, been driven to such extremities that they had to mortgage their lands and houses to enable them to pay the
“To live Anywhere in the and be against equality is like living in Alaska and being against snow.”-William Faulkner. This quote means that it is impossible to live in this era and be against equality because it is so supported and so may people are pro equality it is hard to explain against it. Today by just looking in the News you will see all the hate people will give you if you dare to hate on other races. sadly back then it was accepted to hate blacks or other races but luckily today it is a sin to hate on others who don't look like you.
The sun is a reliable indicator of Meursault’s feelings. It can make him sleepy, angry, happy, or even resentful. This is very important for a man with such a limited range of emotions. It seems as if he uses the sun to justify the feelings he experiences, as well as the murder he commits. The sun plays a key role in not only his feelings but also in his decision-making. He said, “… my nature is such that my physical needs often got in the way of my feelings.” This is very important in seeing just how significant the sun is in relation to Meursault’s actions.
