In modern day, there are different things that we see and use that have received a meaning through Greek mythology. Many people look at Greek mythology and think about all the gods and goddesses that were alive during that era. A goddess that has a lot to do with my life today is the goddess Nike. Modern day Nike has a big influence on me today due to the fact that I work at a sneaker store that promotes a lot of its products. So the modern day Nike, is a source of income for me, and also the sneakers and apparel I mainly wear today are branded by Nike. Sneakers are sold through many different ways. People may look at a shoe and just want the shoe or they might get it for other reasons. A big factor that plays in the role of the sale of sneakers is the types of people that endorse the sneakers. Many of the bigger named celebrities around the world chose to endorse Nike. Examples such as Michael Jordan who played professional basketball would endorse Nike, which would give Nike huge sale numbers because Michael was the greatest basketball player of all time. Another big name that helped Nike was Tiger Woods who is one of the greatest golfers to ever play the game of golf. Tiger Woods became the second hottest Nike endorser after Michael Jordan (Farrell, Kathleen A. et al.). With the two hottest sport celebrities endorsing your sneakers to wear, it will give the general public a thought that if they wear what the greatest athletes are wearing, it may also make them great too. With this strategy in mind, it helps Nike generate more sales than other brands. This method of using big named celebrities has helped Nike become the number 1 sneaker brand in the world. With the modern day Nike being the number 1 sneaker brand in the world, it relates to the Greek goddess Nike of being victorious. They play a role of showing the strength the army has, or how fast they can mass produce. In Greek mythology many people envy the gods and goddesses. With the envy that people have, if a god or goddess would ask them to perform a certain task for them, the people would do it. The ability that the gods and goddesses have to have people work under them is a huge strength. It gives them power in numbers and it also gives them the power to have tasks performed without having to perform it themselves. Now in the modern day Nike, they use slaves to create their products. It may not be slavery to many, but having people perform such labour tasks for such a low price to me is seen as slavery. This slavery that the modern day Nike uses, helps Nike create a mass number of products in a short amount of time. Many shoe brand companies use slaves to create their products. An example would be the 2nd top sneaker brand Adidas, who is known to be the "slave shoe" (Eko, Lyombe, and Natalia Mielczarek). Many sneaker brands will use slaves to try to get to the top of the leaderboard in terms of revenue. They will use the slaves as their own strength to produce as much as possible.
