Marty Martian was sent to Earth to find life, and he succeeded in finding a car. The car is living because it uses energy, and it feeds on a liquid substance. Marty said that , “they appeared to have a great deal of energy, some of them moved faster than 60 kilometers per hour”. Every living thing has energy, and so does this car. If the car was not living then it would not have the energy to move. Marty also stated that he, “observed that they would stop to feed on a liquid substance”. All living things need a stimuli to live, which is why a car needs gas. If the car was not living, then it would not need gas to drive. Marty Martian did not bring a living object back to Mars because all living things grow and regulate themselves. The “Modern
“But if I wasn’t willing to take risks to save lives, I’d…” He thought for a moment. “Well, I guess I’d be you.” (pg 125). In the book, The Martian by Andy Weir, Mark Watney gets stranded on Mars.
Ray Bradbury was an American author born on August 22, 1920 who died on June 5, 2012 at the age of 91. Bradbury was a prolific and beloved writer who wrote many novels considered today to be staples of the science fiction genre such as Fahrenheit 451, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and The Martian Chronicles (www.biography.com). The Martian Chronicles is a collection of short stories Bradbury wrote over several years detailing the colonization of mars by humans. Present in this collection of stories are a number of themes portraying the weaknesses of mankind. In these stories are tales of corporate greed, mental illness, religious zealotry, gullible ignorance,
On the surface, The Martian is a sci-fi drama about an astronaut stranded on Mars. Mark Watney was assumed dead during an extreme sand storm after sustaining life threatening injuries and damage to his space suit. The rest of the crew evacuated back to Earth, leaving Mark. However, he is able to repair his suit and return to the base, where he begins a series of scientific excursions to keep himself alive for the four or so years until the next Mars expedition, which is his only hope of rescue. Mark learns to grow potatoes in his new home, he creates water from scratch, and rebuilds various space ship equipment. This all sounds ridiculous and unrealistic, but entertaining. Since it is a science fiction novel, none of that is surprising. What
The Martian is a book about an astronaut named Mark Watney, he is a botanist and mechanical engineer stranded on Mars by his crew after they witnessed him being impaled in a Martian sandstorm by some debris. This all happened during Watney and his crews attempt to leave Mars due to increasingly powerful windstorms. Watney somehow survived being hit by the debris and now that his crew has left him he is stranded on Mars on his own. Watney must find a way to survive and make communication with NASA. In order to survive Watney has to come up with a bunch of genius and crazy inventions. Watney must do this to survive long enough for NASA to rescue him. Some of Watney's inventions include: farming potatoes using water made from rocket fuel, modifying
The Martian Novel should end with Watney being rescued by the NASA team. As he gets on the Hermes, he decides to bring his potatoes back to Earth to observe. The astronaut team was thrilled to have Watney back and they all celebrated the successful mission. As the celebration continues Commander Lewis notices that the Hermes is gradually declining in altitude towards Pluto. She then quickly yells for the others to come look at what was going on. Despite the efforts to prevent crashing, the mission to bring Watney back was unsuccessful. The entire team was stranded on Pluto and terrified of what was to come. Unfortunately, Watney had not survived the crash and his dead body lied on the cold ground. The team only has the potatoes that Watney
In the Martian, one scientist, played by Matt Damon, gets left on planet Mars without the resources necessary to survive due to the harsh weather conditions that forced his team off the planet. Damon’s character struggles to remain sane and deal with the problem at hand, obtaining the resources needed to survive. Eventually he figures out what he needs to do. He cultivates foods and plants into a beautiful plentiful garden. He fought through his struggle of having little food and turned his situation into a bearable one.
The novel, The Martian, has an effective ending which includes intense action along with continual hardships. The author really did a great job of creating an ending that included resolving problems which plagued the main character throughout the entire story. The main character, Martin, was part of a space crew sent to Mars to determine if the planet could be inhabited by humans. Martin was sent as a botanist, or someone who figures out how to grow food. Each crew member had an important job to do and all of them were needed to make a successful trip to Mars and back. When Martin was left behind when the crew thought he was dead, he had to problem solve and all alone figure out how to survive. His skill was growing food, but to stay alive he needed to do so much more than grow food. Throughout the entire novel the reader
Human-beings have made the grave mistake of confusing order for sameness and sameness as the seed of progression. Most of mankind has a toxic ideology of progression, they believe in order to advance everyone must abide by the same set of laws, use the same technology, and most importantly share the same vision of the future. The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury reveals just how far the human race will go in order to move the future in the same direction. Bradbury perfectly documented how human endeavors to mars might unfold assuming it was populated, and how overtime Humans might spoil the planet and its culture; He does this through a series of chronological narratives. The novel conveys many ideas, but the most important is how easily
The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury, is a science-fiction book and was written in 1946. This major work by Bradbury is a collection of short stories relating to Mars or Martians. Bradbury had a clear vision of the Mars in which these stories are set. His vision was one of a fantasy world from the Martians point of view. In this work, the humans from Earth are the aliens from outer space. Bradbury has won many awards including the O. Henry Memorial Award, the Benjamin Franklin Award, the Aviation-Space Writers Association Award, the World Fantasy Award for lifetime achievement, and the Grand Master Award from the Science Fiction Writers of America. Bradbury supported his awards
A stranger stabs a man repeatedly in the face and neck as he rides the rush hour train to work, a man’s parachute fails, an infant boy quietly dies in his sleep. This never-ending parade, this supporting cast that comes and goes and on-and-on; this ceaseless, synchronous choir marching and singing solemnly in the echoing expanse of nothingness.
The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury, was a strange conglomeration of stories that I had a hard time following until I examined its themes a little more closely. Initially, I was excited to read another Ray Bradbury book. His novel, Fahrenheit 451, was something I first read when I was younger, and have come to love. This makes my initial experience reading The Martian Chronicles even more disappointing. The structure of the novel, told through little vignettes of different characters and time and plot, felt confusing and better suited as stand-alone short stories.
The feeling of alienation is one that no humans want to experience. In Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles, Bradbury allows the reader to grasp a greater understanding of what alienation is like by bringing the story to a world of actual aliens. By doing so, Bradbury sets a wall between the extraterrestrial setting of the book and humanity’s reality on earth. He also creates a sense of separation by never allowing the story’s characters to live too far throughout the book.
Other views of philosopher: ● There is other views of certain philosophers that creates and objection towards the intentional systems of Daniel Dennette. ● The real pattern of the mental states yields an objective towards producing behavior in the world. Unfortunately, the real pattern is missed by the Martians which seems to be an empirical claim. ● The theories proposed by Peacocke and Block describes the neutral distinction of the internal structures that accomplish its rational competencies which coincides with the intentional systems. ● The Martians uses physical stance to predict the behavior of the physical things.
In the 2015 movie entitled The Martian, director, Ridley Scott, and music by Harry Gregson-Williams creates a commentary musical score and song choices to match the desolation and plot of the movie. The Martian, which is based upon an Andy Weir science fiction novel, tells the story of a stranded astronaut’s seemingly hopeless attempt at survival. While the movie resonates a depressing and hopeless tone based upon the situation, the musical choices of songs provide the much-needed comical relief. The music also reflects the literal meaning of the scene to emphasize the meaning of the plot. The choice in featured songs connect to the past major unfortunate historical space mishaps, the music foreshadows outcomes for Watney’s ultimate fate.
As I reflect back on opioids, I learned that the pharmacodynamics of opioids is that the body will require more drugs to achieve the same effect. I learned of some of the harmful effects such as having brain damage, which is non reversible. Furthermore, I learned that the brain has a feeling good center for which MFB meets. If someone is taking drugs, then the brain would send out abnormal messages. As a counselor, I now know how is important to know the difference between tolerance and dependency. I believe every counselor should know how drugs effect the body and the human behavior.
