A same-sex family is being represented in Leslea Newman’s Mommy, Mama, And Me. A child is seen doing different activities with their two moms throughout the day. From Mama pouring juice in the child’s cup, mommy packing a snack, and the child playing in the park with both moms. The book shows the bond that the child has with both mommy and mama. I liked the book, it displayed a lesbian family in a positive way, and would use it as a pedagogical tool. I believe it is perfect to show toddlers different types of families. Toddlers can learn that not everyone has a mommy and daddy, there are children who have two mommies. They will learn through a book normalizing same-sex couples, showing that just because there are two mommies it does not change
Can you imagine that Josh Stosh is gonna take Bobby Fuller the biggest jerk to Josh, back in time to see Jim Thorpe. The book i’ve been reading is “Jim and Me” by Dan Gutman. The setting in the book takes place in Josh house back in 2003 and now travels back in time to 1931. And a quick summary of The book “Jim and Me” is about a kid named Josh Stosh and is shocked when his enemy, Bobby Fuller, begs him for a favor. He wants Stosh to take him back in time to meet Native American Jim Thorpe an Olympic champion who lost his medals in a scandal.
Give a recommendation. (This should include why you like or did not like the book.) Was it grade appropriate? Why or why not? Would you use it in your classroom? Why or why not? I believe this is a delightful book to recommend. It teaches kids about dealing with adversity, how to preserver and staying the course not matter the challenges faced in the present or future. It’s a feel-good book about determination and desiring for a better life and not to give up hope.
In the book A Child Called “it”, by Dave Pelzer, is about a boy who was violently abused by his mother. Dave's abuse lasted for years, his mother would starve, beat, stab, smash and intoxicate him. No one except a teacher from the school was able to save him. Dave the boy being abused by his mother, Catherine is also the author of the book. If I had the chance to talk to the author, Dave Pelzer I would ask questions about his abuse and how he got through it.
Today my book started with a girl Madeline. She had as a rare disease, she can’t go outside but she likes this boy named Olly. Madeline has to be homeschooled because the can’t go outside the doctor named Carla watches her and teaches her stuff that normal people do at home. A man ask her if she wanted to help him with his shop and she help him with the shop. Madeline set up the fake manikins and the fake food so after she helps him with the store she goes home and stays with her mother, they do not talk about her father.

LunchTime: A Slow-casual Game for Long-term Dietary Behavior Change is a book concerning the epidemic of obesity and how it is growing across the United States. It shows a few examples of the many risks and disadvantages obesity has, such as an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and economic and social handicap. The book also talks about what is recommended in order to stop being obese and to start having a healthy lifestyle. Eating and physical activities in a person’s lifestyle are affected because if a person isn’t eating healthy and exercising then they will slowly become obese. Individuals have the right to choose whether they want to have a burger for lunch, or a salad instead. Fast food industries aren’t forcing you to eat their
The author I chose to write about is Bishop T.D. Jakes who is also an author, pastor and filmmaker. The books that he has written have been very influential to thousands of people and the way he writes his books is mainly because of the way he grew up,his surroundings, and what he was taught. Ever since he was a little boy all he knew was church and as he had gotten older he became a best-selling author, but he wasn't always so successful all the time he had to start from the ground up. The very first church he used to preach at only had ten members that grew to about fifty, but in a few years those fifty members expanded to millions of people and he transformed that small amount of people of fifty to a multi-million dollar ministry. Someone who had a huge impact on him was his father who died when he was sixteen and the cause of that was that he had renal failure by dialysis but the sickness had started when Jakes was only ten years old
There are two very different settings in Gloria Naylor’s “Mama Day”. Both settings happen to be characterized by the ideas and culture of the people who inhabit the different places, both being located in America. Throughout “Mama Day” Naylor tells a story of two African Americans, that are in love, from different backgrounds. Cocoa who was born in Willow Springs, an island that is not considered part of the United States and that is not part of South Carolina nor Georgia, was raised by two female figures and George, an orphan who grew up in a program controlled by whites. As Naylor tells the story of the relationship between the two characters, the reader begins to realize the issue of maintaining the identity of African Americans. In Gloria
I haven’t wondered what it would be like to be a sixteen-year-old kid and kill people for a living. This book explains it perfectly though. In the beginning of my book Ben (I will refer to him as Ben because we don’t know his real name yet and it is his fake name later in the book) goes into a different friend’s dad because he was told to. Later in the book Ben is given the task to kill the mayor of New York. Connecting The James Bond theme to Ben, Hit me with your best shot to Sam, and Domo arigato Mr. Roboto to Ben.
A packed Cramton Auditorium is filled with Students, Faculty Members, and fans of the New York Times best seller “Between the World and Me”. “Between the World and Me” was written by Ta-nehesi Coates and tells the story of America’s racial history.
Monday, October 16, 1995, is the day that stood for unity, love, and brotherhood. The day one million Black men gathered in Washington, DC declaring for their right to justice. The day Black men made history. The Million Man March, the inspiring event of Black men from all ages, religions, and background, led by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan motivated Kelly Lyons to write One Million Men and Me. The book described the march from the perspective of a little girl who joined her father while standing at the Washington Mall along with over one million Black men. Speeches from numerous people rang through the crowd’s ears, as well as those who watched on television as they made know the value and importance of black men’s lives. One Million Men and Me delivers a message to children and
The essence of the relationship between a mother and child is a mutual ascendency in regards to identity. Children are subject to an instinctive longing for a mother. It is the mother’s influence that guides them in their process of discovering all the realities the world posses and in that processing discerning their identity. Conversely when a woman becomes a mother the presence of her child causes her to evaluate and develop her identity under the pretense of motherhood. Paula Nicolson touches on the value of both these scenarios in her article “Motherhood and Women’s Lives” where she expresses how the mother child relationship gives the pretense for both parties to find their authentic identities (Nicolson). Sue Monk Kidd evaluates the
I believe this book, How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk, is a great tool for both the families of young children and the teachers who may need to brush up their skills when dealing with younger children on a daily basis.
The poem “Mothers and Daughters” is written by Pat Mora. Pat Mora is a contemporary award winning writer, who writes for children, youngsters and adults. She was born in El Paso, TX in the year 1942. Judith Wright’s poem “Mother to Child” is about a woman’s emotions during the different stages of motherhood. It tells the audience that the bond between a mother and her child is very powerful and that it changes as the child grows. Wright shows us this through her use of imagery, symbolism and the structure of her poem. The use of those three elements of literature help communicate the love the woman has for her child and how their connection grows stronger as time goes on.
