Protologue to The monkey's paw
The Monkey’s Paw Boom! Joe ran over to the monkey, throbbing in pain on the ground. The monkey tried to get up and escape but Joe put his boot on him before the monkey could leave. He dragged the monkey over to his cart and put it in the basket. Joe drove back to his cabin in central India and brought it inside, he put it on the table and went to take a shower. His mates came out of their room knowing Joe was home. They observed the monkey and noticed something, the paw had a gold color with ruby within the sides of the paws. They started to scream, Joe got out of the shower and walked into the room. They looked at him and said
“you found it!”
He looked around and his head felt numb, instantly he fell down. He woke up with the sound of a blade cutting bone. He got up and walked over to the table, they had removed the paw. The reason Joe and his colleagues had come out to India was because of the price of the rare golden monkey. Since they had found it, it was time to sell it.

The story is a mystical tale of three different people granted three different wishes by a cursed monkey’s paw. The use of foreshadowing pulled the reader into the dark and cold night when Sergeant Major-Morris visits the White’s home, and told them of the tale of the monkey’s paw and tries to destroy it by throwing it into the fire. Mr. White retrieved the paw and kept it for his own personal use. The use of the wishes from the paw came at a great cost to the family. In W. W. Jacob's, "The Monkey's Paw," he illustrated foreshadowing, imagery, and fate as a theme; thus, it

In the short story the Monkey’s Paw, one of the main literary devices that were prevalent in the author’s writing was foreshadowing. From the beginning of the story, all the way to the end, there was always a hint of what was to come.
Step on a spider, and the consequences may be the millennia of mosquitos yet to come. Wish to be the fastest runner, yet instead, everyone walks at a snail's pace. Tampering with fate will leave people panicking in the aftermath of its unforeseeable outcome. In “The Monkey’s Paw”, by William W. Jacobs, fate is stronger than human will. The people live a normal life until they obtain the Monkey’s Paw.
The resolution of “The Monkey’s Paw” involves Mr.White, the main character. He makes his third wish, then the street is empty when the door opens. The reader can assume that Mr.White wished his son dead. The resolution of “The Third Wish” is Mr.Peters, the protagonist, dying with a leaf and a feather on his chest.
The story begins on a rainy evening with Mrs. White, Mr. White, and their son Herbert gathered in the parlor. Mrs. White is sitting in her chair knitting as she looks on as her husband is losing to Herbert in a game of chess. From the inside, Mr. White can hear the footsteps of someone walking along their walkway and onto their porch. Mr. White immediately gets up to answer the door and is happy to see his longtime friend Sergeant-major Morris. The Monkey's Paw and the Monkey's paw film are similar and different in many ways. In the story it starts out with Sergeant-Major Morris visiting the White family and he talks about the monkey’s paw. He says that it,” has caused enough mischief already,” and ,” if you keep it, don't blame me for what happens.” The White family decides to keep it and the Sergeant leaves. After that, they decide to make three wishes and the first wish that they wish for is 200 pounds, then they go to bed. The next morning Mr and Mrs. White's son, Herbert, leaves for work. Not long after that there is a strange man outside their house. He comes in and gives them the news that Herbert died on the job and that they are getting a compensation of 200 pounds. A week later Mr. White hears Mrs. White crying in the middle of the night. She then comes up with the idea to wish Herbert alive again with the monkey’s paw. Mr. White does not like the idea but his wife's grief changes his mind. He runs downstairs to get the monkey’s paw. He wishes for his son to be alive again. Nothing happens and they go back to bed. Later, they are awoken by knocking on the door and Mrs. White jumps up to go get the door because she believes it's Herbert. Mr. White tries to stop her because he believes the monkey's paw is dangerous. She tries to open the but the bolt is stopping her and she cant get it over. On the other hand, Mr. White is looking for the monkey's paw. He finally finds it and makes a wish. Finally, everything stops, the knocking stop, and the story ends. In the film when Mrs. White runs out of the room to open the door for Herbert, suspenseful music plays which creates suspense. Another factor that we don't see in the story that we see in the film is the lighting. When Mr. White made his final wish and Mrs. White finally opened the door, right before Herbert vanished, a bright light took over the screen and we couldn't see anything for a second. This technique created suspense and curiosity.
White later discovers the Monkey Paw. It has three wishes, but along with the wishes, it has consequences. The mood of the story is eerie and sad. Mr. White has learned his lessons after the first, second, and final third wishes. Mr.White wishes for Two Hundred Pounds to pay off his house and along with that, he faces the first consequence of his wish.
Seargent Major Morris has come to visit Mr. White and his family after 21-years. He had brought along a Monkey 's Paw. He told the family all about its great powers and how it can grant you 3 wishes. Morris had already had its three wishes so he didn 't want the paw anymore. Morris so threw the paw upon the fire. Mr. White with a slight cry stooped down and snatched it off. Morris had warned them about the talisman and its consequences and he did not want to get blamed on if anything happened. Mr. White was just too fascinated about it that he wanted to give it a try and that is how he became the new owner of the Monkey 's Paw.
W. W. Jacobs wrote the short story “The Monkey’s Paw” in 1902. A great number of adaptations of the story have since been created using different forms of media. The two which are being compared here are the play adaptation The Monkey’s Paw dramatized by Mara Rockliff and the 2011 film version The Monkey’s Paw by Ricky Lewis Jr. Both the play and film feature the White family receiving a monkey’s paw by which three wishes may be granted. The paw had a spell put on it by a holy man who wanted to show that fate rules people’s lives and that if people try to interfere, they will be sorry. The main differences between the play and the film are that film gives more background information about how and why the paw was obtained, uses more
