Can we reanimate life after death? First we need to ask ourselves what life is; Oxford Dictionaries describe life as “the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death”. Would it be possible to create a new life from dead bodies? This question is answered through entertainment in both film and literature. The primary source of this is the book and movie, Frankenstein. Although the book is merely science fiction, there is still some curiosity on the plausibility of the creation of life. Obviously, this would take more than one day, because we have to wait for the right donors for each organ and body part, making time a factor in creating the monster.. The issue with this process is that an organ can only survive for so many hours after being taken out of the body and functioning through artificial means. This raises an issue for the creation of the Monster as all the parts need to be healthy prior to the reanimation of the body. The solution: Cryonics. The main purpose of cryonics is the cryopreservation of humans, pets, and their organs (especially the brain) so that through future technologies they may be reanimated at a later date. The main process used by Cryonists is known as vitrification, the process of freezing the water within living tissue to prevent deterioration. In order to successfully vitrify living tissue, scientists use cryostats, containment devices that are used to maintain cryostatic temperatures around −320°F or −196°C using liquid nitrogen (Michaels). Scientists are already beginning to explore the possibilities of the reanimation of cryogenically frozen subjects with the use of nanotechnology, but our main purpose is simply to prevent the deterioration of the Monster’s organs whilst the collection process is occurring. In Frankenstein, the reader is presented with two main characters of which are both monsters. Nevertheless one must be crowned as the true monster. The Creature is a monster who posses the free will and consciousness of a human. Victor is a human being trying to play God. They both have felt pain and anger; they were driven to do unspeakable things. However one is worse than the other.
Frankenstein continues to prove his label as a monster in the novel when he makes the sudden decision to abandons his own creation solely because of his physical appearance. The very moment the monster opens his eyes, to Frankenstein, “the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart. The monster that Frankenstein created was only considered a monster because he did not look like a human. If he had not looked scary he would have been accepted as a member of society. Though had I myself seen him in real life I would most likely have been afraid of him, getting to know him from his point of view, by reading the book, helped me to understand how human-like he was. He was not evil, but kind and just wanted to be loved and accepted. The monster was kind, intelligent, he understood the value of love, and had his own thoughts and values, and for these reasons I believe the monster did not deserve to be destroyed.
Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is a Narrative which tells of Victor Frankenstein and his inhuman creation which he calls, a “wretch.” She writes entirely the book in modern english, which suits the setting and time frame of the story. When Percy Shelley's (Shelley’s first lover then husband) first wife, Harriet, drowned in London in 1816, rescuers took her body to a “station” of sorts in London. Normally, smelling salts, electricity, shaking and artificial respiration had been used to restore drowning victims to life. Unfortunately, Harriet did not survive the treatments. When Frankenstein began to make his creature, his dreams were of a beautiful creature (despite the graveyards and hospitals he had raided of dead corpses), a creature with intellectuality, strength and a capacity of love that would surpass man in all of these areas. Despite raiding graveyards, Frankenstein created the body with (what he thought to be) the finest body parts available at the time.
In Mary Shelley´s Gothic novel, Frankenstein, the Monster once claimed, “The fallen angel becomes a malignant devil. Yet even that enemy of God and man had friends and associates in his desolation; I am alone.” Frankenstein, since the 1910 film adaptation, has known a series of several adaptations that changed drastically, not only the plot but one of the main characters, the Monster, from stealing its creator´s name to being portrayed as a cold villain. A lot of interesting things happen in these two chapters. First, Alex gets manipulated into spending New Year’s Eve at the nursing home, with Laurie. When Laurie asks about Alex’s sentence and how much time he has left, and Sol hears, things go wrong. Sol becomes very agitated with Alex about how he was just a punishment (then more mad when he learns what Alex did). Laurie later attempts to convince Alex to go back to the home, but he doesn’t and they sleep at his house. In Chapter 12, Alex’s dad gets reintroduced when his parents reveal to Alex that they are back together (even after, according to Alex, spending twelve months and $30,000 fighting each other in court).

His hypothesis was that through the power of nature, he could reanimate organic tissue which his chosen mentors had claimed to achieve. Though Victor Frankenstein’s experimentation required a form, which took him to the charnel houses to claim tissue from the deceased. The creature was complete with the animating science developed by Victor Frankenstein. His hypothesis proved true in the respect that it could give life. Throughout the process he underwent to create the creature at no time in the process was there a point to reflect as to whether or not he should create such a monster. There was no point in the process to stop and contemplate the possible outcome of his experiment and its effect on humanity. Victor Frankenstein followed the scientific process to the letter of the word, without trepidation as to his actions. There was no point, as it was not ascribed to be essential to the course of discovery. Victor Frankenstein’s creation was not completely due to his own scientific irresponsibility, it is due to the scientific community whose emphasis on the if we can do something outweighed the decision of whether or not we should do something. There is no safeguard to this question of advancement or what is beneficial to humanity.
