Monstrosity Character Analysis

Jimmy knows too well the agonies of abandonment. First, when his mother, Cecilia, ran away with Richard to pursue a better lifestyle. Then, due to his father’s, Damacio Baca, alcoholisms and violent behavior; he also had to leave Jimmy behind. In spite of the drawbacks from abandonment to being a maximum security prisoner in Arizona State Prison, Jimmy preserver’s the darkness of prison by overcoming his illiteracy. However Cecilia and Damacio is not as fortunate as their child; Cecilia is shot by Richard after confronting him for a divorce and Damacio chokes to death after he is released from the detox center(Baca 263). Therefore the most significant event in this section of the memoir, A Place to Stand by Jimmy Santiago Baca is the death of Jimmy’s parents.

Throughout the novel, Freak the Mighty, author Rodman Philbrick brings the two main characters, Max and Kevin nicknamed “Freak”, together through friendship between two completely different people. The two friends friendship made both Kevin and Max stronger in their own ways; whether it be Max and his self confidence or Kevin with his size. The friendship they had changed both the main characters and others around them for the better in the end. Friendship also taught them how to treat one another whether it be in the case of Max and his dad, Killer Kane, or Freak the Mighty and Loretta, a side character in the novel. Max and Kevin’s friendship made both of them stronger and taught them and everyone around new and important lessons.

The award-winning author, Luis Alberto Urrea, creator of The Hummingbird's Daughter, Into the Beautiful North, and The Devil's Highway, describes The Devil’s Highway which occurred in May of 2001, one of many that impacted the desert on undocumented immigrants. which is a desert located beyond Sonora, Mexico. It is a desert which few turn to in able to cross over. A group of illegal Mexican were left for dead after attempting to cross; they were left stranded after traveling for days in the wrong direction, through mountains, desert and only a small amount of water along with a few personal items. The past event of Marianne’s rape transformed him into an emotional, somewhat sensitive adult, enlightening him to the importance of family. At the reunion, Patrick “let his hand fall on my (Judd’s) shoulder. Brotherly, affectionate” (Oates Loc 8674), illustrating the strengthened bond between the two brothers which would have been unimaginable a decade ago. Without Patrick joining in on the new, intimate amelioration, it would have been impossible for the Mulvaneys to truly reach wholeness.

I was pleased to have attended a lecture cosponsored by the Ethics Center, the Fresno State office of the president, the Fresno Bee and Valley PBS. The lecture began with Dr. Castro recognizing a few leaders on campus, including a past Fresno State president, Dr. John D. Welty and campus volunteer Mary Castro. Dr. Castro then mentioned a few things about Mr. Brooks stating that he is a columnist for the New York Times and an analyst for the PBS “News Hour” and NPR’s “All Things Considered.” Dr. Brooks also teaches at Yale University, one the finest university in the country. Dr. Castro continued by saying that he learned that Mr. Brooks office hours are from 9am to 1pm and how “cool” it sounded to him. I was surprised how many people attended the event. I was fortunate to find a seat. David Brooks mentioned how he has some remote roots in the Central Valley because his father grew in Chowchilla, CA but Mr. Brooks grew in New York.

Grace has been told for more than half her life that she was crazy. Her mother’s death that she witnesses was an accident, there was no scarred man, and there was nothing she could do to change what had happened. But Grace knew they were wrong. With the help of her friends Noah, Megan and Rosie, she managed to discover that the scarred man was Dominic, the first love of her mother, who was there to kill her mother, but chose instead to stage her death. Grace came down just as Dominic was taking the picture, and picked up the gun that was lying on the floor. Firing blinding, she missed Dominic and shot her mother instead. The traumatic moment of shooting her mother was blocked from Grace’s mind as it was unable to handle what she did. Her family tries to protect her from this, saying it was an accident, trying to get Grace to stop pushing. In The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller involves a character named John Proctor, an even-tempered farmer, who cared about how others saw him as. Procter was a married man to Elizabeth Proctor and a father of three as well. Throughout the book, Procter is shown as a man obsessed with his status to protect his name. The following quote says “... there is evidence to suggest that he had a sharp and biting way with hypocrites. He was the kind of man--powerful of body, even-tempered, and not easily led….”, this shows he was the type of a person to unleash his temper with people often, although it was good because he was well known for revealing hypocrisy. The book “Ugly” by Robert Hoge it is a inspiring, true story about, Robert, a boy who grew up in Brisbane, Australia, with a tumor the size of a tennis ball on his face and two deformed legs. Robert had four other brothers and sisters, who were all older. The story is the journey of Robert Hoge and his life with artificial legs and deformed face, and all the challenges he faced along the way.

A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines takes place in 1940’s, a time period of segregation. This was a time when blacks were often at fault for a crime they did not commit, such as what transpired in this book. A man named Jefferson was convicted of a crime he did not commit and was insulted during court. Now his family, friends, and even Jefferson himself were trying to prove the white community wrong about their beliefs that a black man is unequal and lacks dignity against Jefferson and the black community. Not only is Jefferson going through a period of suffering on death row, but others, like Grant Wiggins and Miss Emma, are also facing their struggles and they will try to prove others wrong and redeem themselves through knowledge,

In the play, The Crucible by Arthur Miller which was written in 1692 about the severe Salem witch trials. The play incorporates a great deal of generally good people and an abundance of evil actions. Miller tells a story of those who experienced the trials first hand and played important roles in the time period. Many of the main characters in the story play both sides of good and evil which makes this a morality play. Throughout the play, we never truly understand if the evil actually comes from the devil or from the minds of the individual.

Who does see the best in you? Everybody has someone different in their life who sees the best in them. In most cases it is people parents who sees the best in them. But that isn’t always the case, like in Freak the Mighty it’s not his parents taking care of him anymore.

Misunderstood. All the people saw Max as this big, terrible, scary, kidnapper. Although Max appears this way, he is the complete opposite. Maxwell is a kind person who cares about Worm enough to want to help her. Maxwell Kane comes about as a misunderstood character in the book Max the Mighty.

Throughout Derek Landy’s book “Skulduggery Pleasant: Scepter of the Ancients”, there are many conflicts presented which affect the main characters in many ways. The majority of the main conflicts in the book are external. For example; the primary conflict of “Skulduggery Pleasant: Scepter of the Ancients” concerns Nefarian Serpine’s plan to retrieve the Scepter of the Ancients and to use the Scepter to bring the Faceless Ones back and to eradicate mankind. Serpine’s intents and actions are outside of the control of Valkyrie Cain, the main character. Valkyrie Cain, however, did succeed in dealing with the conflicts presented to her as, at the end of the book, we find Serpine dead and the Scepter out of commission. Nevertheless, Valkyrie owes

What makes a villain a villain? Is it the senseless violence inflicted upon the innocent? Or is it the oh so tragic backstory that is dramatically revealed just when the audience was really starting to hate them? Or is it when they...you know...eat people? When is it too much? When does a villain become a villain? Is it not all just based on our society’s views on what is right and what is wrong? After binging Hannibal, this is pretty much all I could think for several days. One moment you’re hoping that whoever this cannibalistic serial killer is, gets caught and put away for a long, long time and then the next moment, you’ve fallen in love with him. It’s really quite a rollercoaster. This show raises a lot of questions about morality, it
